HOT HOLIDAY HAIR Summer’s here so whether you want a new summery look or tips on how to cope with holiday hair problems look no further…

MAKE-OVER MAGIC AT STYLISTICS HAIR SALON Lucky Emma Branch was the winner of ESP’s recent make-over competition, courtesy of the Stylistics Hair Salon at the Westgate Department Store in Peterborough. To start their new look, Emma and her friend were treated to St Tropez spray tans ensuring that essential glowing summer look. Both girls received manicures for that polished look and to finish the make-over, both girls received a cut and colour treatment.

I’ve had a chat to a couple of our local hair experts to get their tips for making you look beach gorgeous in no time! Sunny days often mean you fancy a lighter look but if you want to be a beach blonde getting the right blonde for your colouring is the key to success. Kris from Michael John told me – “If you’re naturally a soft blonde going the whole hog should be fairly simple but a word of caution, if you’ve never done it before the general rule is start gently. Less is often better until you get used to it. It’s much easier to add more than to have to tone it down and much less traumatic. “Having said this if you have done it before or if you are the braver type of person then the all over blonde gives a much more striking look that stands out in a crowd like Lady Gaga or Pixie Lott. If you are a little darker, say dark blonde to light brown, then the more subtle looking blondes using different tones creating movement and light are very fashionable, as seen on Gwyneth Paltrow. There are also golden blondes for darker bases to create warmth as seen on Eva Mendes and Jennifer Lopez which can look absolutely fabulous on dark hair.” Jetting off on holiday this summer = good times, but battling against dry, frizzy hair = bad times. With the humidity and heat to contend with it’s often a nightmare to style your hair. Hair Xclusive’s Tony Manganiello advises you wear a hat to protect your hair from the sun’s harmful rays and although it can be hard, especially if, like me, you manage to get suntan lotion in your hair, you should try to shampoo your hair less on holiday to allow it to absorb its natural oils which will stop it from getting so dry. Tony also recommends applying a deep conditioning treatment to hair (dry or damp) and wrap it in cling film or a shower cap, allowing it to really soak into damaged hair. Try leaving it overnight if you can for extra moisturising benefits. Control frizzy hair by popping it back into a pony tail, plait or even a chic bun and depending on your hair type, you could spritz with a shine spray to tame frizz too but don’t use too much or hair will end up looking greasy and flat. Try to drink plenty of water too to keep your hair moisturised from the inside out. Finally, Tony advises you give your hair a break from hairdryers and straighteners by leaving your hair to dry naturally or plait it whilst still damp to create soft curls as it dries, giving you the perfect beach babe look. If you can’t survive without straightening your hair though make sure you use a heat protection spray and only run them through your hair once. p m ag .co.u k ( July )

Emma told ESP – “I have never won anything before, so this experience has been very exciting. The Stylistics team recommended a full head of highlights and a stylish cut to complement my face shape. I am thrilled with my new look.” Emma’s friend, Julie Lynch added – “I had a complete re-style and colour, with a flash technique using 2 colours and then a full head of colour to create a stunning mix of shades. I am ecstatic with the transformation and have even booked my next appointment with Stylistics!” The Stylistics Salon is located on the first floor of the Westgate Store, next to the electrical department. They’re open Monday to Friday, 9am – 5.30pm, with a late night Thursday until 8pm. For more info call 01733 565622.
