Abstract

The online world is a great place for children to learn, play and explore but we are also aware of the risks that kids may face online –and we all want to avoid them. In Europe today, the average 9 to 16 year old spends a good amount of time each day online, often from a computer in their bedroom or from a mobile device. That’s a big change and a big challenge, but also a big opportunity. The Digital Citizenship Team at European Schoolnet works on a variety of projects focusing on eSafety and digital skills which aim to support mainly children and young people, but also give guidance to parents and teachers in the digital age. The Digital Citizenship team at European Schoolnet (EUN) works on a variety of projects which aim to empower children and young people to use the internet, as well as other online and mobile technologies, positively, safely and effectively. In terms of online safety projects, the team currently works on a variety of projects, namely Better Internet for Kids (BIK), The eSafety Label (eSL), The Web We Want (WWW) and The European Network Against Bullying in Learning and Leisure Environments (ENABLE). Within this article, readers will be able to find out more about each project and learn how they can actively participate. 136
