By the end of 2004, total installed capacity 34661mw, evaluated to two Three gorges project. SHP:LHP=2:3

In 2004, 3470 MW SHP was added from 2904 SHP Stations, total investment in SHP 37.7 billion yuan.

311 counties generated electricity from SHP of more than 100GWh in 2004.

0.66 million people were employed by SHP enterprises

55% of power generation capacity owned by county level or below in whole China is from SHP

SHP is the indispensable electricity source in remote and/or poor areas where large grid can not reach

Send Electricity to Villages Up to the end of 2004, China still has 10 mil. people without electricity. They mainly live in remote areas. „

Small hydro power is the most effective electricity supply solution for villages without electricity. Conventional method is inadequate for solving the problem. Project: 100~500 kW for a single township, 500~2,000 kW for several Total investment: 5.8 bil. Yuan (US% 701.3 mil), directly from central government


Replacing Fuel Woods with Electricity Plan: „2003—2020 provide electricity for 28.3 mil families, 104 M people, for cooking and heating „ Annual new installation 24.04 GW electricity 78.1 TWH „Total investment: 127.3 bil. Yuan ( 50% from Government) Pilot Phase: „ 27 SHPs in 26 counties of 5 provinces „ Newly added installation 58 MW, investment 280 mil. Yuan „ Serving 300,000 people, electricity price 0.19~0.30 Yuan/kWh, 40% of normal price


Upgrade Local Grid in Rural Areas In SHP supply areas, „Investment for power grid in rural area of 240 counties (1998-2003): 21.3 billion Yuan „Investment for power grid in 208 county-towns (2003) 5.9 billion Yuan „Price reduction: 15-30 cents/kWh Total investment for whole China from 1998 is about 500 bil.
