ESDES in brief ESDES is an international business school founded in 1987 within the Catholic University of Lyon. Located in the heart of Lyon, the biggest French metropolitan area after Paris, ESDES opens its doors to international students through a reputed exchange programme that has adopted the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) and offers a wide variety of subjects to students from across the world. Highly reputed in France as a leading institution of higher education, ESDES has also won international recognition for the quality of its teaching and research.

Make the right choice with… the IBP programme at ESDES This programme is designed for both degree seeking students who wish to study in English at ESDES for three years and exchange students who have the possibility of studying business related courses with the aim of transferring credits back to their own university. The IBP programme allows all students who plan a career in international business to study in a multi-cultural environment as there are students from around 35 different nationalities currently studying with us. This programme aims to generate cultural awareness and broaden students’ minds through learning from peers and professors who come from an array of different cultural and educational backgrounds.

DEGREE SEEKING STUDENTS

Participate in the International Business Programme (B.A.) to obtain your bachelor in three years The International Business Programme (B.A.) is a three year course with the aim to: rovide graduates with the necessary P skills and knowledge so that they can make an effective contribution to an organisation in the capacity of junior manager. Develop students’ critical appreciation of the role of managers in a global context. Enhance students’ appreciation of cultural differences at every level. Students will have the opportunity to spend one semester abroad during their second year at one of our partner universi-

ties. We currently have around 130 partner universities from around the world including China, USA, United Kingdom, Spain, Mexico… A work placement is undertaken during third year allowing students to apply their theoretical knowledge to a real situation. This opportunity helps to further develop important professional and academic skills such as teamwork, communication skills, problem-solving, leadership and organisational skills. The language of instruction is in English with French Language classes in first and second year. However students will take some business classes in French in their second and third year. At the end of the programme student should be fluent in French!

The International Business Programme is an exchange programme designed for students who are enrolled at ESDES partner institutions in their home countries. Classes are offered primarily in business in the areas of Finance, Marketing, Law and Strategy. Classes are available at both Bachelor’s and Master’s levels. Additional courses are offered in non-business areas such as the European Union and Art & Architecture. The language of instruction is in English, although students have the option of taking some business classes in French every semester if their French is good enough. Students are strongly encouraged to take a French Language class, although it is not mandatory. There are classes in French for students at every level.

In addition to the challenging academic courses which students take, there is also a wide range of social activities and trips that students can partake in. While there are many things to do both at the University and in Lyon, ski weekends in the Alps, dinner with a French family and wine tasting in the Beaujolais are very popular. Students can also enjoy a wide range of social events which are organized by the IBP Club.

French Social Security

Orientation

Apply online:

It is mandatory for non-European students who do not hold a European health card to purchase the French Social Security, which is a French health-care coverage, provided under the Social Security system. Students will be expected to pay for the French Social Security before arrival. The price is about €220 per year.

Students receive their final schedules at Orientation. They also have the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the University, sign up for trips and other activities, and learn about important administrative areas such as setting up a bank account, using public transportation, etc. Both Registration and Orientation are mandatory.

Housing The Service Logement is available to help students arrange suitable housing, however some students may decide to find a place on their own. Students who have been assigned housing by the Catholic University’s Service Logement (housing desk) may go directly to their residence halls or families in Lyon in order to obtain the keys and settle in.

Registration Registration is open several days prior to Orientation and is done on an individual basis. During this time, students will meet with an advisor to finalize their class choices, take a French placement test, undertake administrative duties and obtain their student ID card.
