COVER CLOSE-UP 2

FALL 2021 | Close-Up

Vincent Rocco walked into the Park Avenue Community Center (PACC) for the first time back in 2003. "I was there to meet a friend," he recalls "and take a week long Intro to Computer Learning Class." While waiting for the class to begin he discovered the Pool Hall at PACC and entered for a quick game. Nearly 20 years later Vince is now a regular at the Pool Hall and he chuckles , "I never did make it to that Computer Class." Seeing Vince smile reminds us that each day presents the opportunity to learn something new, or explore a new hobby. So browse this guide and join us this Fall for a new kind of fun! You never know when you'll find your next hobby of 20 or more years. For more information on our PACC Billiards program see page 33.

PRESCHOOL

Tiny Tots Preschool prepares your little one for kindergarten by encouraging exploration, academic development, and positive social interaction. Designed with learning in mind, the curriculum is based on California Common Core Standards. Children often learn through play, therefore classroom activities include a variety of music, creative movement, art, science, social interaction, cultural awareness, language, math, prewriting, pre-reading, field trips, and dramatic play. Little Tots and Super Tots are continuous, yearlong programs that are divided into monthly installments for ease of payment. Therefore, participants are enrolled for the duration of the 2021/2022 school year provided they maintain their eligibility.

Wee Tots 3-4 weeks • 18 mo.- 3 1/2 years More than a play group, each class is an opportunity to learn and grow. This class is led by an experienced preschool teacher that develops activities to inspire creative thinking, encourage social interaction and build academic understanding. We have been anticipating reopening day and it is finally here! the Park Avenue Community Center (PACC) will open the front doors Monday, August 2. We have all missed you and are excited to be reunited. While enjoying reunions, the center will continue to follow CDC guidelines. Therefore, we will be requiring everyone to wear face masks inside the center at all times except while eating. Also physical distancing continues to be recommended. For updated CDC information view their website at www.cdc.gov. Let’s all keep positive and enjoy our time together here at the PACC. We have so many things to look forward to since August is Family Fun month. Think about who is included in your family circle and plan an outing or activity with them. Try something new, create a family recipe book that can be shared or designate different days to honor each family member. You are PACC’s extended family and we will be holding some fun days and capturing them on film. We’ll post the memorable times on our front lobby screen. See pages 4 for more information.

Be sure to check out the new Recreation Guide that will feature our newly updated Billiards Room and one of our long time pool players, Vincent. The guide will be available August 16 to view at https://www.escondido.org/recreation Monday, August 9 a pool tournament will be held from 9 am –1 pm . The entrance fee is $5. Sign up at the center with the Senior 8-ball Social Club. Regular pool room hours are Monday –Friday from 9 am - 3 pm. 1

FALL 2021 | Older Adults

OLDER ADULTS Thanks to a generous $40,000 donation by the Sahm Family Foundation, the Park Avenue Community Center now has a warm, modern, welcoming look and feel. The billiard's room equipment has also been upgraded with three new pool tables and so much more. There's a lot you may not know about us! Our native plant garden is a free shaded respite highlighting waterwise gardening and pollinator-friendly plants. We're also in the process of building a new shaded outdoor dining and programming space, so if it's been a while, stop by and give us another look. Thank you Sahm Family Foundation for the generous donation to refurbish the Park Avenue Community Center!

Billiards The Park Avenue Community Center is home to the largest billiards room in North County! With newly upgraded equipment, it's the place to be for pool sharks and newbies alike. The Billiards room is open to the public Monday - Friday from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. FALL 2021 | Older Adults
