Descripción de Proyecto / Project Description
2008
The new housing complex was built to relocate the residents of a poor community of the urban centre of Lares. The precarious structures had been built alongside a steep staircase in a peninsula surrounded by a creek. A new lot was formed by the acquisition and grouping of three street lots and six small buildings were built – connected by terraces and bridges – enclosing a stepped interior courtyard. total of seventeen apartments, designed according to each family in the Community, were distributed in the new buildings. The units were stowed vertically according to size, producing jagged masses which dematerialize as they grow tall and reduce its impact on the surroundings. The street façade was aligned with the sidewalk to maintain the urban wall.
