Dear Parents I hope that you had a wonderful holiday during the October break. Upon returning to school we have welcomed some new students and families to BCIS and we know that they will be made to feel very welcome within the BCIS community.  On Friday we sent home mid-semester report cards. I hope you found the report card informative and this, along with the goal setting form, will be the basis for your discussion at the parent-teacher conferences on tomorrow.

Coffee with the Principal - Tuesday 22nd October from 9.15 a.m. On Tuesday, October 22 we will be hosting a special Coffee with the Principals session to share information about the BCIS Early Childhood Center (ECC) campus that is opening next year. Join us to hear the latest developments about the ECC campus, and to talk with Elementary School Principal Julie Lawton, Elementary School Deputy Principal Alan Cox, and Early Childhood Center (ECC) Principal Sara Shadravan about what you can expect if your child will attend Nursery - KG classes at the new ECC campus. Parents are also welcome to come talk with us about other ES topics.

Terry Fox Run - Thursday 24th October, 2.30 p.m. This is a whole school event and we welcome you to come along and join in. The Terry Fox tee-shirts have arrived in school and have been sent home to those who ordered them.  We look forward to seeing you next Thursday!

Parent call out: Accreditation visit

BCIS is looking for parents across all grades to discuss their experiences at the school during the upcoming accreditation visit by representatives from the International Baccalaureate, the Council of International School (CIS) and the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). The discussion is scheduled for Wednesday, November 6th from 8.30 to 9.15. If you are interested in attending, please contact the Elementary School Deputy Principal, Alan Cox (Alan.Cox@bcis.cn) for further details and/or to register.

ES Spirit Week - 21st - 25th October The Student Council has been working hard this year already and they have decided that a Spirit Week is just what we need before Winter begins! Please see below the make up of the week and the Student Council will advertise this widely amongst the community. Monday 21 October   Extra recess day! We will add 10 more minutes to the lunch recess - it may not seem like a lot, but it will be much appreciated! Tuesday 22 October Costume day - come to school wearing a costume! Wednesday 23 October Dress alike day - students may dress the same as their friends. Twins? Triplets? More? Thursday 24 October  Terry Fox Day  - this is the Terry Fox Run day. Wear your tee shirt with pride and join the race to raise as much money as you can for cancer research. Friday 25 October  Pajama day & cozy book reading. Come to school in your PJs and bring a favourite book!

Topping Up Aramark Lunch cards Many students are enjoying the school lunch provided by Aramark. It is very important that parents keep their child’s lunch card topped up with money. When the balance gets low, Aramark will send an email to the parents to inform them of a low balance.  Once the balance is overdrawn, Aramark will allow a further three full lunches to be served (to be later deducted from the card

balance) however, after the third time, if the balance is not paid, the child will not be able to choose food from the full service.  A child will not be refused food and will be offered a simple meal. Do help Aramark and your child by ensuring a continually topped up balance on the lunch card.

Colder weather/Winter jackets As the weather is about to get colder, students will be coming to school in the morning wearing sweatshirts and jackets.  Sometimes, during recess, when the day gets a little warmer students take off the jackets and put them on the floor and unfortunately items get lost this way. Do talk to your child, as we do, about taking care of personal items, plus, putting your child’s name clearly inside the items of clothing does help us return lost items to the owner.

The Eddingtons just returned from Guangdong Province where they collected Mei, and she turns one today! We look forward to seeing you at school tomorrow for the conferences. Have a great weekend!
