Thesis 1, Fall 2012 Parsons the New School for Design Ermioni Giakou Professor: Jane Pirone

Project Brief

Athens in & out is an online platform that hopes to provide a medium for young artists and designers from Athens to share their work. Athens in & out wants to give an opportunity to young artists to promote their ideas by showcasing their work, to share their feelings and dreams through innovative ideas and basically through art. Athens in & out wants to be a forum of inspiration. Our mission is to unify young Athenians and make them act and react in a creative way.

The target audience of my project will be mainly young Athenians that have the need to express themselves, artists around the world looking for inspiration, potential tourists that will be impressed of the art work that has been created and will want to visit Athens and of course, the rest of the world.

The major element of my project will be the online gallery, which will showcase the work of the young Athenians and Street Art in Athens, which will include for example, graffiti on walls, which has been sprouting around the city, whether it be a simple political statement or an incredible work of art.

The project’s goal is to make people sensitive about the topic and interested in wanting to visit Athens. Indirectly, Athens will also be promoted as a city, as the website will provide to its users information about what to do in the city regarding activities and art events.

A big element of my project will also be places that one should visit in Athens, both local people and tourists. I want to promote in an indirect way museums and also unknown places around Athens in order to make people familiar with the beauty of the city.
