alpha xi chapter update FROM PRVP NATASHA CANNON To my dearest sisters, I hope this note finds you and all your families well and wonderful! Another school year is about to start at SMU and my outstanding Alpha Xi sisters are ready and willing to take on all the exciting challenges ahead of us. The PR department has been very busy all summer planning many new and exciting things for the upcoming semester in preparation for a strong Spring Recruitment in January! I am proud to announce that the women of Gamma Phi Beta will be sporting new jerseys on the first day of school this year—the bright pink jerseys with chocolate brown letters will hopefully be a huge hit on campus, and will only accentuate the outstanding women wearing them around the school. The girls are very excited for their new jerseys, and we can only hope that the Potential New Members will be just as excited to wear them one day in the future. On another exciting note, for the first time in a number of years, Gamma Phi will be participating in the SMU Family Weekend festivities and is pairing with the men of Beta Theta Pi for an Open House on Fraternity Row, as well as for a fun afternoon tailgating on the Boulevard before the football game against Northwestern State. We look forward to the chance to meet many Potential New Members and their families during the Open House, and as always, are really looking forward to a spirited preparation before the football game on Saturday! Our Philanthropy Chairwoman, Allison Guthrie, has been hard at work planning both new and recurring philanthropy events for the semester. Alpha Xi’s Crescent Classic, “Gamma Phi Frog Fry,” will be held again this year on September 28th and the chapter is really looking forward to helping the school rally behind the SMU Football team in preparation for the big game against TCU on October 1st. In mid-October, we will be holding a new philanthropy event: “Gamma Phi French Toast Feast,” where we will be selling “late night” French Toast to all those late-night breakfast cravers! This event has been very successful with Gamma Phi chapters across the nation, and we are hoping it can be just as big of a hit at SMU! Last, but most certainly not least, Alpha Xi is very excited for the annual Alumni Fall Back Fashion Show on September 17th! Our Alumni Relations Chair, Anna Kiappes, has been busy at work with Karen Turner preparing for the event and all the models cannot wait to sport the latest fashion from Tootsie’s for our outstanding alums! I am absolutely looking forward to seeing all of you at the house for the show—I really think you’re going to be very impressed with what we’ve been working on for the show this year. I personally want to thank you so much for your continued support of the Alpha Xi chapter at SMU. I cannot even tell you how much we appreciate everything that the Dallas Alumni Chapter does for us, and we are eternally grateful for you. All my love in IIKE, Natasha Cannon Public Relations Vice President Gamma Phi Beta, Alpha Xi Chapter

GET TO KNOW YOUR 2011OFFICERS “WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE GAMMA PHI MEMORY?” PAULA RHEA, PRESIDENT My favorite memories are of Initiation some years ago and the ritual that ties us all together. I also love the welcoming attitude of all the alumnae that I've met over the years, no matter the school, state or chapter.

ERICA PELLETIER, MEMBERSHIP Convention in Cincinatti a few years ago, first wearing giant carnation baseball caps watching members of all ages dance around the football stadium. Then performing ritual with everyone. It was surreal and unforgettable.

LAUREN NEMRAVA, PROGRAMMING My favorite memory is sitting in a room in the house during work week and having about 20 girls in the room/hallway watching Napoleon Dynamite. We were like sardines and we laughed the whole time, I don't even think that we watched the movie. It was a great break from work week and for the girls that were experiencing their first work week it was a great time to get to know everyone! I loved my time in the house and there are many more memories that i cherish with all the Gamma Phi's while I was there.

MARY ANNE GODINES, YOUNG ALUMNI RELATIONS While being president i was able to help out one of my best friends from my hometown by raising memory for her & her family during a hard time in their lives by doing a jewelry sale with her mom's gorgeous jewelry. we called it "glitz & glam" & it worked out perfectly because we were able to do the jewelry sale and give my friend's family the money raised just in time for the holidays.

HEATHER HAMMER, COMMUNICATIONS I think my favorite memories are of big little. I loved the anticipation of finding out who my big sis was, had so much fun making the week special for my twin littles, and was blessed to have the best gphi family ever!

GAMMA PHI BETA DALLAS ALUMNAE GROUP FALL 2011  VOLUME LXVI1

KRISTI HAM, FINANCE Lots of fond memories, however my initiation was wonderful. I was initiated at a church in a small town with my entire pledge class and when the blindfold was removed a huge photo of Jesus appeared before me at the head of the chapel and it made my initiation that much more special. I have been to many more initiations in my time, but I have to say mine was awesome.
