Monday 1/13 Create a Safe Community of Guest mentors will introduce Learners themselves to the students with one fun fact; students do the same. Introductory warm-‐up game led by the mentors in order to get the students comfortable working with us. The Big Idea Sit in a circle, discuss the idea of dreams: What are they? Are there different types? Why do we have them? Engage personal experience: What are some dreams that you have/have had? (Share some of our own) Create The students will have little comic-‐strip type storyboards handed out in which to create their dream sequences in real life. Students color, draw, and write about their dreams. Perform/Share/Reflect/Close Everyone shares their dream storyboards, explaining what occurs in each section and what they wrote. Students discuss and reflect on what everyone made.
Wednesday 1/15 Create a Safe Community of Guest mentors perform Learners similar warm-‐ups with students again to promote reliability a fun, safe environment. Engage Sit in a circle, return to the idea of dreams and what they mean, focusing on dreams for the future. Engage personal experience: What are some dreams that you have for the future? What do you want to be when you grow up? What do you want your life to be like? Where do you want to be? Discuss the idea of abstractions. What does abstract mean? Example: Colors—what could colors represent? (Have students share and dicuss) Create The students will create abstract masks that represent their future selves and their dreams. Perform/Share/Reflect/Close Everyone shares their masks and what they mean. Students discuss and reflect on how each different mask means something different to each person.
Wednesday 1/22 Create a Safe Community of Guest mentors perform Learners similar warm-‐ups with students again to promote reliability a fun, safe environment. Create Break students up into pairs. Students will come up with 2 8-‐counts of choreography that is based on their dreams. Pairs teach their parts to the rest of the class, and the dance is combined into one big dream-‐ sequence. Students rehearse the dance while wearing their abstract-‐ dream masks that they made the previous class. Perform/Share/Reflect/Close Students showcase their artwork and perform their original dance to the entire after-‐school program. Students reflect on the other classes’ showcases as well as their own.
