Eric Voelker STANDARD 4. E. The Heifer Project 7th Grade Change Project

STANDARD 4: Uses strategies to deliver instruction that meets the multiple learning needs of students. E. Connects students’ prior knowledge, life experiences, and interests in the instructional process. Description / Purpose of Artifact This artifact is a poster displayed in the grade level common area. It represents the project that the 7th grade is participating in during the first fall quarter of 2008. This project is aimed at providing communities in the developing world with livestock in order to improve their lives. In 7th grade we have been talking about humanitarian aid. The project that the students are engaged in is precisely that. Each time the subject is talked about in the classroom I refer to the humanitarian aid effort that the 7th grade is participating in. As the quarter continues the amount of prior knowledge and understanding is evident in student discussions.

What I Learned / What this Artifact Shows / What Questions Remain This artifact demonstrates that I understand the value of prior knowledge in learning and that I involve students in related activity outside the classroom.
