STANDARD 3: Demonstrates competence in planning and preparing for instruction. C. Uses student’s developmental needs, backgrounds, and interests in planning for instruction. Description / Purpose of Artifact As part of Student Services I deliver character education to students in a variety of settings. One of the settings is in detention hall. To prepare this instruction I assess the student’s developmental needs and background from the information found on this form. If more info is needed I also use Infinite Campus to check for behavioral history as well as academic performance history. Further, if more information is needed I speak directly to the parent or teacher regarding the particular incident so that I may prepare the best lesson activity to address and teach better choices through living out good character traits.
What I Learned / What this Artifact Shows / What Questions Remain After reflecting on this artifact I have realized that one source of background or one source of data usually does not tell the whole story. It is good to consider multiple sources of information in order to assess a student’s abilities/situation in order to be competent in the background necessary to plan and prepare good lessons.
