appy Birthday to us! Happy Birthday to us! Happy Birthday Dear Snap Matter... Ok you get the point. It’s been one year since I started this project, and over the course of that year our team of contributors has learned a lot about the remote publishing world. For one thing, the shear volume of new publications coming out is staggering. The opportunity of locking down a solid niche in your field of expertise is narrowing every day. We’re still happy with our growth here at Snap Matter, thus we move forward excitedly. So when will the remote publishing market become too saturated with startups and editorials that have been reworked 100s of times? There’s no telling for sure. Perhaps it already is. If you’re a magazine on the rack at your local newsstand or supermarket, the market has been over-saturated for years. Many of those magazines have already adapted to the growing trend of free content by giving away their brand through subscriptions (as low as a dollar an issue in some cases), while boosting the cost of advertising and other revenue streams. The industry is evolving. Those who choose

not to change the color of their wings to adapt to the environment will eventually be eaten by a prey who embraced inevitable change. All of us here at Snap Matter are still going through a learning process to find continued success. Hopefully our sophomore effort will educate us as much as our first year. Thanks to all the folks who have supported us this past year. We appreciate your feedback.

n our fifth full Issue: This issue is loaded with photographers from across the United States. We also have a few model profiles and a makeup artist profile, but it is the photographers who are hogging up the spotlight in this issue. Some of our regular columns have been dismissed for this issue to accommodate the overwhelming submissions we have received this last quarter. Fear not, they will return in future issues. Coming Issues: SWIMSUITS!!! That’s right! It is summer time again, so it is time to start getting out into the sun, or studio, to show off the greatest fashion wear in the world. hat sets apar t good photos of a model from g r e at photos of a model? T here a r e so many answers to that q u e stion, and all of them are p ro bably right. Composition, g o o d lighting techniques, f ind i n g that right angle, an incred i b l e location, the perfect pose, e t c. all contribute to a fantas t i c p hoto. But there’s one more s e c r et weapon that can make o r b reak the project. One of t h e most impor tant elements t h at many photographers overl o o k in their enthusiasm to c o m plete an assignment. I’m t a l k i ng about a fantastic hair a n d makeup team. In this feat u r e, I’ll be discussing make u p and focusing on the wor k o f my favorite MUA, Jasmine C a r denas. Ja s mine has been doing makeu p professionally as a free l a n c e ar tist for 6 years. She i s a Califor nia State Board lic e n sed esthetician and has a l s o wor ked for MAC makeup s i n c e 2009. One unique note a b o ut Jasmine’s wor k is that s h e is one of the few makeup a r t i sts that uses airbr ush to a p p l y her foundation, making t h e f inished look much more ev e n than any other makeup a r t i st I’ve ever wor ked with. T h e re’s a growing trend where m o r e and more makeup ar tists a r e slowly moving towards airb r u s hing, but her lengthy ex p e r i ence with the technique p u t s her in a different league. m o d e l : A ng e l i q u e Yo r k > H A IR: SEAN ALIA N > p h oto g ra p her: KE V IN CHA N

To showcase her versatility a n d skill as a makeup ar tist, I i nv i t ed Jasmine to the studio l a s t weekend to apply several d i f f e rent looks to a group of m o d els I had gathered. She gra c i o u s ly accepted and we had a g r e at time wor king out a style fo r e ach of the 5 ladies. At the e n d of the week end, ever yone h a d a great time and we left w i t h some fantastic samples of h e r wor k that I’ll share in the r e s t of the ar ticle. A l l i s on Herber t has a soft l o o k , but strong features. From t h e f irst look, Jasmine decided s h e wanted to go with an ora n g e and pur ple color scheme fo r t he eye shadow. In keep i n g with the scheme, she also a p p l i ed strong contour lines in o r a n ge. To chisel out the shape o f A l lison’s eyes, she outlined i t w i th a strong black eye liner. To g i ve her an even look, Jasm i n e also airbr ushed her neck a n d shoulders with an eggshell m at t e foundation to give the s k i n a natural, yet porcelain look. A n g elique Yor k has nearly f l aw l ess skin with a beautiful w a r m complexion that Jasmine w a n t ed to emphasize. She c h o s e to use various shades o f g old throughout the whole f a c e, from the eyes, to her c h e e ks, and even on her lips. Fo r her eyes, she used MAC
