RIC OPERA HICAGO

CHICAGO LYRIC OPERA HOUSE

Partners: Yasmin Badowi & Dillion Park Chicago, Illinois Fall 2016

The Chicago Lyric Opera house is Located at Navy Pier, Chicago right where the Chicago River meets Lake Michigan. We began with a circle and pulled it apart making various cut outs to fit the programing needs. The building emphasizes just as much importance on the back of house programing as it does for the auditorium and public spaces. The auditorium seats 1,800 people, and is both intimate and spacious at the same time.

SPLITLOG FARM SHED Community Engagement & Redevelopment Kansas City, KS Class Project Spring 2016

As a studio, we designed and built a steel frame a garden tool shed for the split lock Community Farm. Located across the street from M E Pearson Elementary School, in an at-risk neighborhood, these children need a safe place to play and learn. By providing a safe place for children to play and teaching them healthy eating habits they are more likely to lead healthy active lifestyles, and less likely to join into gang activity. We met with the students and consulted with them to find out what they wanted; since they are going to be the real uses of the space. We made them a part of the design process to ensure the space works for them and they enjoy it. We in vison the structure as being more than just a tool shed creating a gathering space for the community to come together and hold events.

PIONEER CHAPEL

A Chapel For West Campus Lawrence, KS Fall 2014

Located adjacent to the University of Kansas’ Pioneer Cemetery, this temple is designed to service the University’s growing West Campus. The building’s shape is derived from the Hebrew word ‫( חי‬chai), meaning life, which is very symbolic in the Jewish faith. This footprint generates an optimal place for prayer and amenities, while controlling the flow of traffic. Although, designed as a temple, it is not clearly evident in the project and use of the space. This allows the structure to perform as a non-dimensional chapel which can easily be used by all faiths.

TONES

44

After capturing a small slice from the charcoal drawing, I then assigned tonal values one through six to each portion on the slice. Representing each tonal value in its respective value in inches, I then modeled the slice of the drawing.

ARTWORK

I have studied depicting a variety still lifes, portraits, and scenes; including items ranging from objects, food, and people through all different mediums. Examples are shown in colored pencil, cray pas, charcoal, acrylic paint, and pen and ink. Among my favorite mediums to use are charcoal and cray pas. This is because my hands are working directly on the materials and getting involved in the process and dirty, creating a real feeling of connection between you and the art.
