On Monday, May 3, the Chamber celebrated our 31st birthday, while recognizing the business community’s accomplishments and honoring those in our community that have excelled at our Annual Awards Banquet. -Chamber, Kiwanas and community Celebrated PatriotismThe Chamber and Kiwanis Club of Eatonton held Celebrate Patriotism, the community’s preMemorial Day event on Thursday, May 27 at The Plaza Arts Center. Locals gathered on the Plaza lawn and enjoyed complementary hot dogs, chips, drinks and ice cream. The memorial wall was on display while the sideshow ran in the auditorium. At 6 p.m., the program began which included music by the The 434th Signal Corps band, the Presentation of the Colors by the Putnam County High School’s JROTC, 21 Gun Salute by the Eatonton Police Department and a special presentation of the Blue Star Memorial Marker Dedication from the Eatonton Town and Country Garden Club. Meet the Chamber’s summer intern! Angela Lockard is the Chamber’s new intern! Angela is from Lawrenceville, GA and is currently a student at Georgia College & State University majoring in Mass Communication. She will graduate in December 2010. As a Chamber intern, Angela will be assisting in the day-to-day operations and will write press releases, design brochures and attend meetings / networking functions. After graduation, Angela will be searching for a job doing public relations for any type of company in the Lake Country area.
Chamber holds Annual Board Retreat. On May 20, the Chamber staff and Board of Directors spent the day reviewing all Chamber programs, determining the strengths and opportunities. Goodwill is coming to Lake Oconee and needs your help. Gently used clothing and household items donated to Goodwill are sold in Goodwill’s stores, and 84 cents of every dollar is used to support mission related services to individuals with disabilities and other barriers to employment. June 12-17, Goodwill will open a new donation drive at the Lake Welcome Center between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., please bring your donations of gently used clothing and merchandise. In July, the Job Connection will open, and the upscale retail store will open as soon as enough community support is garnered.
