ABOUT THE WARRIORS Corban University enters the postseason as arguably the hottest team in the Cascade Collegiate Conference. The Warriors are 18-12 overall, and were awarded the fifth seed after going 10-8 in conference play. Corban has won seven of the past eight games, with the lone loss coming at then-ranked No. 12 Warner Pacific by one point. The Warriors were named the conference team of the week after upsetting then-ranked No. 1 Oregon Tech in their last game of the regular season. Jordan Carter was named the NAIA Div. 2 National Player of the Week this week after back-to-back 35-point games last weekend. The sophomore leads the Warriors in 13 statistical categories this season, including 13 points per game. Erik Cronrath is adding 15.1 points per game. Jacob Kopra has scored 52 points against EOU this season. ABOUT THE CCC TOURNAMENT Oregon Tech and Northwest University shared the 2011-12 Cascade Collegiate Conference regular season men’s basketball crown and will enter the upcoming eight-team CCC Tournament as the top two seeds. Oregon Tech earned the No. 1 seed in the tournament by virtue of its two-game series sweep of the Eagles. The Hustlin’ Owls, under the direction of veteran coach Danny Miles, are seeking their fourth consecutive conference tournament title. No. 10 Northwest, the regular season co-champ with OIT, is seeded second. No. 12 Warner Pacific is seeded third and Eastern Oregon received the fourth seed. The top four seeds will host quarterfinal playoff games. Corban is seeded No. 5 after owning a tiebreaker over Southern Oregon. The Raiders are seed No. 6, Concordia No. 7 and College of Idaho No. 8. THE LAST TIME OUT The Eastern Oregon University men’s basketball team won its fourth consecutive game Saturday with a 77-63 win over Concordia University. Seniors Jamar Johnson and Travares Peterson led EOU on Senior Night with 17 and 12 points. Trent Roos added 11 points, and Anthony Brown had 10 points and 12 rebounds. Cody Thurmond threw six assists. Eastern Oregon jumped out to an early lead over Concordia (14-15, 6-12), going up 18-5 while making four of their first five three-point attempts. Then, after the Cavs cut the lead back down to seven points, EOU closed the half on a 22-7 run to go up 44-22 at the break. The Mountaineers held Concordia to 28 percent from the field in the first half, and 0-for-7 from beyond the three-point line. EOU outshot the Cavaliers .382-to-.366 in the second period as the Mountaineers never let the lead slip back under 10 points. In the end, EOU outshot the Cavaliers .420-to-.329 and outrebounded the CU, 53-49. 200 STUDENT TICKETS PURCHASED FOR TUESDAY The first 100 students may come to Tuesday and Wednesday’s Cascade Collegiate Conference tournament quarterfinal matches for free courtesy of Associated Students of Eastern Oregon University (ASEOU). In addition, another 100 student tickets have been purchased by the Mountaineer Athletic Association for both nights. Students MUST show a valid student I.D. to receive their free ticket from ASEOU. Since this is postseason play ticket prices have changed with Cascade Conference and NAIA guidelines. No passes are accepted. Reserved seating tickets are $10, an adult general admission ticket is $5, senior and student tickets are $2, and EOU and opposing school student tickets are $2.

SALEM, Ore. – The Corban University men’s basketball team beat Eastern Oregon University Friday, 79-73. The Warriors (14-11, 6-7 Cascade Collegiate Conference) were led by Jacob Kopra’s career-high 28 points on 10-for-16 shooting from the field tonight that included a 5-for-8 showing from beyond the three-point line in the Warriors’ 79-73 victory over EOU. In two games this season against nationally-ranked Eastern Oregon, Kopra has combined to score 52 points and set single-game career-highs each night.

Cronrath added eight points to go along with a sevenrebound, six-assist showing by Carter.

Despite leading by double digits in the opening five minutes, Corban could not keep Eastern Oregon at bay as the visiting Mountaineers used a 31-20 run over a span of 14 minutes to pull within two points (39-37) thanks to a free throw by Salem-native Trent Roos with 74 seconds on the clock. A closing 6-0 run by the host Warriors that included a jumper in the lane by Carter just before the buzzer sounded would hand Corban a 43-37 lead heading into halftime.

A three-pointer from Thurmond six minutes into the second half gave Eastern a 13-point lead, 54-41. The Mountaineers had their largest lead of 17 twice in the second half. Jacob Kopra recorded a career-high 24 points to lead Corban. He was 8-of-11 from the field. Erik Cronrath added 14 points and three assists. Jordan Carter had a team-high seven rebounds. The Warriors (12-5, 5-3) were 40 percent from the field, 7-for-26 from threepoint range, and 13-of-18 from the free-throw line. Corban outrebounded EOU, 32-29.

pointer with just under 15 minutes remaining. Fortunately for the host Warriors, Eastern Oregon would not get any closer as Corban built a 12-point advantage (60-48) thanks to an 11-2 run over a span of five minutes capped by a Kopra jumper with 9:47 on the clock. Both teams would battle back and forth over the next seven minutes until Corban held another 12-point lead (69-57) thanks to a Kopra three-pointer with twoand-a-half minutes left. Wanting to make the host Warriors win the game at the free throw line, Eastern Oregon began trading single points for two- and three-point buckets in an attempt to fight its way back into the game. Over the next minuteplus, Corban would go 5-for-8 at the charity stripe and extended its lead to a game-high 14 points (74-60). In the final minute, Eastern Oregon would get backto-back three-pointer by Roos to bring the difference below double-digits only to have Corban knock down 5-of-10 at the free throw line en route to securing the six-point win (79-73). Eastern Oregon (14-9, 7-7) was led offensively by Anthony Brown with 14 points, while JaMier Morris was the only other Mountaineer in double figures with 10 points off the bench. Kylian Wood pulled down a gamehigh 12 rebounds for EOU; while Cody Thurmond and Wood dished out a team-best three assists each. As a team, Corban combined to shoot 24-for-55 (43.6 percent) from the field that included an 8-for-20 (40.0 percent) showing from beyond the three-point line and a season-high 23-for-36 (63.9 percent) performance at the free throw line. On the other hand, Eastern Oregon was 27-for-65 (41.5 percent) from the field, 7-for-22 (31.8 percent) from long distance, and 12-for-19 (63.2 percent) at the charity stripe.
