EOU MOUNTAINEERS FOOTBALL GAME NOTES * 4 EASTERN OREGON IN THE POLLS

THE SAMPSON Kevin Sampson can become the fourth player in school history to run for 1,000 yards in a single season with 20 yards Saturday. He ran for 154 yards on 24 carries in the first meeting with Northern this year. The junior has amassed 980 yards on the ground this season. The Seattle native is currently seventh on the All-Time EOU rushing list. He needs 244 yards to break the single season rushing record at Eastern as well.

WARE’S A SCARE ... IN OCTOBER Chris Ware has been scary for opponents in the month of October during his career. The junior quarterback has thrown for 3,102 yards in 12 games over the past three years in October, an average of 259 passing yards per game. Ware has connected on 238 of his 446 passes in October, 53 percent. He also has amassed 3,615 total yards of offense in those games, an average of 301 total offensive yards in October during his career. RIGHT WHERE THEY LEFT OFF The Mountaineers broke 30 school records a year ago, and the current Eastern squad has doing some breaking of their own. EOU has set 11 new school marks in 2010 through seven games. The Mountaineers are on pace for several more records this year as well. RUN EASTERN RUN With the success of Kevin Sampson this year, the Mountaineers have a great chance to shatter the school record for rushing yards in a season. EOU currently sits at 1,548 yards on the ground. With three more games left in the regular season, Eastern needs 531 more rushing yards to break the 2001 team’s mark of 2,079. EOU needs 177 yards a game the rest of the season to beat the record, it’s averaging 193 per game so far in 2010. A HALLOWEEN AFFAIR Eastern and Northern square off on Oct. 30 this season, last season the teams met on Halloween. It was a scary start for the Mountaineers as the Lights jumped out to a 20-0 second quarter lead before Eastern Oregon reeled off 37 unanswered points in the 37-20 victory. It was the first win in Havre for EOU in five trips. RACE TO THE BORDER Blue Pony Stadium in Havre is only 35 miles from the Canadian border. The 730-mile trip is the longest for the Mountaineers during the season. It is roughly a 15-hour bus trip. EOU will leave in the middle of the night Thursday and stop to practice in Missoula, Mont. at the University of Montana. In a role reveral for this time of year, Havre is expected to have 60-degree sunny weather at kickoff, while La Grande will have temperatures in the high 40’s with rain.
