ABOUT THE CONFERENCE

Entering the second half of Cascade Conference play, all 10 teams in the CCC know where they stand and what they need to do to make the CCC tournament and earn potential hosting rights. This week, Northwest and Evergreen head down I-5 to Northwest Chrisitan and Corban to open up round two of conference games. Oregon Tech and Southern Oregon head east, traveling to College of Idaho and Eastern Oregon for a quartet of games that could go a long way in determining final regular season standings.

THE LAST TIME THEY MET... December 15, 2012 Klamath Falls, Ore. –The Eastern Oregon University men’s basketball team defeated Oregon Tech for the first time tonight since 1979 in Klamath Falls winning in overtime, 75-73. Jason Mumm led Eastern with 22 points shooting 8-of-12 from the field. Anthony Brown and Zach Anderson would each add 12 points respectively. Oregon Tech was led by Josh Johnson who finished with 28 points and 6 rebounds. David Clarke contributed with 14 points. The Hustlin’ Owls of OIT jumped out to an early 12-2 lead in the opening minutes of the game. Midway through the first half the Mountaineers continued to trail the Hustlin’ Owls by double digits. The Mountaineers would go on a run and close the gap to just one with a three pointer by junior transferTony Eackles Jr. just before the half, sending EOU to the locker room down, 37-36. Eastern shot poorly in the first half shooting just 35% (12-of-34) from the field while Oregon Tech shot 50% (14-of-28) from the field. Midway through the second half EOU trailed 54-50 and wouldn’t get their first lead of the game until under eight minutes to play with a 3 pointer by Brown. In regulation the game would come down to the closing seconds as EOU trailed by 2 before Mumm scored a basket tying the game and sending the game into overtime. In overtime Oregon Tech would lead by as much as 5 but with just 1:16 left in the period EOU would take a one point lead. A foul by EOU would send Johnson to the line where he would convert making just 1 of 2 to tie the game at 73. On the ensuing possession, Brown would miss a 3 pointer but Zach Anderson would grab the rebound and score giving Eastern the 2 point lead with just 2 seconds left on the clock. Oregon Techs’ Clarke would try a last second heave from half court that hit the side of the rim giving EOU the win. As a team Eastern would finish the night shooting 42% (27-of-63) from the field and 32% (9-of-28) from behind the arc. Oregon Tech would finish shooting 40% (25-of-62) from the field and 46% (13-of-28) from downtown. Eastern will play at home next weekend against Evergreen State College Friday, game time is set for 7:30 p.m. Live stats and video will be available at EOUsports.com

CASCADE CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT

*The 2013 Cascade Collegiate Conference Men’s Basketball Tournament will be held at campus sites Feb. 20, Feb. 23 and Feb. 26. *Seeding for the eight-team, single-elimination tournament will be based on regular season conference finish. The highest-remaining seeds will host each round. The winners of the CCC regular season and the CCC tournament earn automatic bids to the NAIA Division II Championships. THE LAST TIME OUT ...

eou claims win in first game as no. 1.. January 11, 2013

CALDWELL, Idaho – The No. 1 Eastern Oregon Men’s basketball team (20-1, 8-1 CCC) defeated College of Idaho ( 9-9, 5-3 CCC) in tonight’s Cascade Colligate Conference, 60-45. Tonight’s win marks EOUs’ 20th win of the season surpassing last years win total, with still half of conference left to play. Eastern Oregon men are the first NAIA team this season to reach the 20 wins. Senior Cody Thurmond led the Mountaineers with 17 points and 6 rebounds. Craig Tucker and Trent Roos added 11 and 8 points respectively. College of Idaho was led by Sydney Donaldson with 15 points and 6 rebounds. Rodney Delgardo finished with 10 points. The game got off to a slow start as both teams struggled to put the ball in the basket, EOU held the Yotes scoreless for a seven minute stretch in the first half. Midway through the half the Mountaineers would go on a run and gain a 9-point lead with 9:48 left to play. The Mountaineers would hold on to a comfortable lead for the rest of the half and go into halftime up 10 off of a Crane tip in at the buzzer, 28-18.

In the first half Eastern shot disappointing 31% (9of-29) from the field and 30% (3-of-10) from behind the three point line. C of I struggled as well as they shot 26% (7-of-26) from the field and 22 (2-of-9) from behind the arc. The Mountaineers started off the second half with a steal and a basket by Esters to extend their lead, 31-18. The Yotes’ responded with an 8-0 run cutting the lead to five, holding EOU scoreless for three minutes. A jumper by Brown with 15:43 left to play would end the cold streak. With just under five minutes to play in the game Eastern would blow the game wide open extending their lead to 17 to come away with the win, 65-50. Eastern finished shooting 34% (18-of-53) from the field and just 22% (5-of-22) from behind the arc, while C of I shot 26% (15-of-56) from the field and 19% (4of-21) from the three point line. As a team Eastern out rebounded the Yotes’ 54 to 35, and out scored them from the bench 35-19. Eastern will play at home next weekend against Oregon Institute of Technology, game time set for 7:30 pm. Live stats and video will be available at EOUsports.com
