EOU LOSES TOUGH GAME TO MONTANA TECH...

La Grande, Ore. - The Eastern Oregon Football team lost a close game to Montana Tech Saturday afternoon at Community Stadium 20-28, in a Frontier Conference matchup.

onside kick and recover. EOU then put a series of completions together for 80 yards to score their final touchdown of the day. This time, Walser found Billinsley for a 12-yard touchdown reception.

Ray Walser completed 13 of 20 passes for 127 total yards, while Jason Simonis completed 7 of 14 passes for a total of 44 yards and had 1 rushing touchdown. Jace Billingsley had 11 receptions on the night for 136 receiving yards and had two touchdowns receptions.

Montana Tech’s Nick Baker completed 38 of 48 passes for 363 yards. Pat Hansen rushed for 158 yards and had 1 touchdown on the day. Trent Thomas and Kevin Moss had 90 and 74 receiving yards respectively.

The Mountaineers had a tough time getting their offense rolling in the first half as Montana Tech held EOU scoreless in the first two quarters. The Diggers took a 13-0 lead at half. In the third quarter the Mountaineers put five plays together for 37 yards and scored with 7:32 left on the clock. Simonis rushed for a single yard to get into the endzone which put the Mountaineers on the scoreboard for the first time. After three quarters Montana Tech led 19-7.

The Mountaineers will be on the road next week, October 27th, against Dickinson State. EOU and Southern Oregon will have live video and stats on EOUSports. com. Live radio will be on KCMB 104.7 FM. STAR ANNOUNCED SPECIAL TEAMS POTW

Eastern Oregon’s wide receiver Kedrick Starr was selected as the Frontier Conference Special Teams Player of the Week. Starr, a junior from Meridian, Idaho played a vital role in the come from behind victory this past weekend against Rocky Mountain. Down by 11 in the fourth, Starr would jumpstart the Mountaineers offense by returning a punt 83 yards for a touchdown. To go along with his 83-yard punt return Starr added another 43-punt return yards on the day, 77 kick return yards and a game high 154 receiving yards. Starr and company will be in action next Saturday October 20th at Community Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. Live video and live stats are available on EOUSports.com.

EOU BATTLES BACK TO BEAK ROCKY MOUNTAIN

The Eastern Oregon Football team won their homecoming game against Rocky Mountain Saturday afternoon, 28-24. Jason Simonis completed 24 of 35 passes for 349 total yards. Simonis threw three touchdowns and two interceptions. Kedrick Starr and Jace Billingsley had 140 and 86 receiving yards respectively. In the first half Rocky Mountain (2-4) would shut out the Mountaineers (3-3) and take a 10-0 into halftime. The Mountaineers came out at half with their offense rolling, as Jason Simonis would throw two touchdowns in the third. The first, coming with 10:52 to play. Simonis connected with Andrew Woody for a 3-yard touchdown. Four possessions later EOU would score again. The Mountaineers put a series of completions together and ended up on the EOU 8 yard line. This time, Billinsgley caught the touchdown pass from Simonis. The Mountaineers would head into the fourth quarter trailing 13-24. In the first possession of the fourth Kedrick Starr returned a punt 83 yards to the house, to close the gap; 20-24. Another four possessions later, 13 plays, and 95 yards later Simonis would throw his third and final touchdown pass of the game with 3:30 left to take a 26-24 lead. On the ensuing possession the Mountaineers would sack Rocky Mountain’s quarter back, Bryce Baker, in the end zone for a safety which put them up 28-24 Baker completed 18 of 25 passes for 225 yards and threw one touchdown and two interceptions. Eastern had a total of 509 yards of offense on the day and almost doubled Rocky Mountains time of possession; 36:38 to 20:17.

TOUGH LOSS FOR THE MOUNTAINEERS

The Mountaineers couldn’t stop Southern Oregon University Saturday afternoon as they lost, 22-68. EOU (2-3) had no answer for the Raiders potent offense as the Raiders (3-2) poured points on the scoreboard early and often. Southern scored a touchdown on all three of their first quarter possessions and kept the Mountaineers scoreless to take a 21-0 lead into the second. EOU would start the second quarter with the ball and score, after an SOU interference call placed the ball on SOU 18. Jason Simonis then found an opening and rushed for a touchdown with 14:47 to play in the second. The Raiders would go on a run and score four more touchdowns and a field goal to end the half, 7-51. SOU picked up where they left off and scored on their first possession of the third. EOU came right back with a touchdown of their own. Simonis found Kedrick Starr for a 22-yard touchdown pass with 6:08 to play in the third. After three quarters the score was 61-14.

EOU STRUGGLES TO FIND ENDZONE

The No. 14 Ranked Eastern Oregon Football team fell to Montana Western 16-3 Saturday afternoon at Community Stadium. The Mountaineers (2-2, 2-2 Frontier Conference) had a tough time finding the end zone Saturday afternoon. Ray Walser passed for a total of 109 yards on the day completing 8 of 17 passes, while Jason Simonis completed 13 of 20 for 71 yards. Luis Ortiz and Jace Billingsley combined for a total of 91 receiving yards 47 and 44 respectively. Sean Hurlbut lead the Mountaineers in rushing with 36 yards while Matt Orthmann added 27. Howard McDonald lead EOU with 14 tackles, 9 of them coming in the first half. After stopping the Dawgs on their first two possessions Montana Western eventually found the end zone. Jeff Logan setup Dylan Kramer for a one yard run to put the Dawgs on the board with 4:49 on the clock in the first. The second quarter saw more action. EOU stopped Montana Western on their first possession, but failed on the next. Mackenzie Crossley punched in a 24 yard field goal attempt to put UMW up 10-0. EOU would eventually punt the ball right back as Simonis was sacked twice and threw an incomplete pass on the next possession. UMW would take advantage of this opportunity. It took the Dawgs 13 plays to move the ball down the field 80 yards for another touchdown. This time Jeff Logan completed a 19 yard pass to Matt Lickfold to put UMW up 16-0. On the ensuing drive, Walser completed a pass to Billingsley that setup Marc David for a 32 yard field goal as time expired. The Mountaineers headed into half down 16-3. At half, EOU had a total of 115 offensive yards compared to 321 by Western. Unfortunately, for the Mountaineers,
