EDITOR’S NOTES By Arianna Jasmine Hello Envy readers! I’m excited to say this is my first time being the publisher for ENVY Magazine, and it has been an honor to do it. I wouldn’t have been able to grow and be confident enough to take on this new challenge without the help and support of the Envy Executive Team and of course the very talented writing, modeling and photography staff at ENVY. Recently I have been following the Olympics in Rio, as I am sure many of you have been doing as well. While I always appreciate the exciting events, it isn’t the sports that interest me. It is the way that many different countries can all come together, allies and enemies alike, to participate in an event that showcases how talent, hard work, and perseverance can push humanity to new heights.

All of these traits are important for every facet of our lives and unless you put your all into what you do you will never win the “gold medal”. Every day is about beating your personal best and training to be better. Watching these talented athletes compete inspires me to push my own limits, hence my foray into the publishing world. However, what really gives me hope is that even if it is just for a short time every year, we as a species are able to come together in peace. With all the darkness in the world, and the consistently depressing news being reported every day, the Olympics gives me hope that we can overcome it together. So just remember, even though it is easy to get caught up in the rivalries and the hate we are more similar than different. The theme of tolerance, unity and peace is evident in this issue of Envy. Join us to learn about role playing, about the types of role plays available, about personal experiences of what it’s like to role play as a child avatar on Second Life. What being a furry is about and how one person ventured down the designer path for the furry community. How a modeling agency that is still going strong values the unique beauty in every person. Turn the pages and see how SWANK’s August round takes us to different parts of the world with the Envy models. I hope you enjoy this issue as much as I’ve enjoyed putting it together for you. Most of all I hope we can all take the message of tolerance, peace and acceptance into the real world.

Enjoy your week all! 6

Where are they now? By: Imani Kilah

Lashay’Xyshay Elite Modeling Agency When we come to Second Life, this game offers us multiple options. You can look like you or anything or anyone you want, you can come and make friends and just hangout, you can find some activity or role play, some others start a business and they build companies, stores and brands. Some of them might not succeed but others do and can be popular for a moment, others keep growing over the years and are still present in 2016. Don’t you wonder about some of the clothing stores you used to go to, are they there today? Where are the creators of mesh body parts? Where are the popular hangouts, or events? Where are the modeling agencies now? I came across the Lasha’Xyshay Elite Modeling Agency, established in 2008, thus with it being 8 years later I decided to interview the owner Mrs. Taboo Brady (Taboo Perian) and some their most important models. Imani: Mrs. Taboo, could you tell us did you open Lasha’Xyshay Elite Modeling Agency and why? Taboo: When I came in to the game in 2008 I quickly realized that I needed a job. I model in real life and thought it would be amazing to bring modeling into the game since fashion is a big part of most of our lives.

Lasay’Xyshay Elite Modeling Agency is a modeling agency based on the art of fashion. Since 2008 Lashay’Xyshay Elite Modeling Agency has established itself as the quiet powerhouse of the modeling industry in Second Life with an inspiration to embrace non traditional beauty.

Imani: What’s your mission and vision as an agency and in the Second Life fashion world? Taboo: Our mission is to build confidence and self-esteem in each of our models and actors by celebrating and praising their individual uniqueness and talents. We instill the belief that you can be successful in this industry without compromising your morals or values. The proof is in the performance. Imani: Why should men and women in Second Life join your academy and agency? Are there requirements to join? Taboo: A passion for fashion is one of the most important perquisites for a fashion modeling career. Fashion modeling students should not only be interested in fashion, but they should also live and breathe all things fashion. Fashion isn’t a job with hours, it’s a lifestyle. With your passion for fashion and expertise, you will be ready to take the fashion industry by storm. Voice projection, selfconfidence, personal image development, the latest runway techniques, makeup, skin and hair care as well as professional portfolio development, the term starts November 12th 2016.

13

Imani: Do you do scouting? How’s the applying and interview process? Taboo: Aspiring models can apply on our website www.lxmodelingsl.com. Models with prior experience will be considered without going to school however if a model needs work, he or she will be referred to LX. Academy. The first term will begin November 12th, 2016. Prior to this LX has funded complete makeovers for models that have showed a certain level of dedication to LX. Imani: After exploring Lashay’Xyshay Elite Modeling Agency, where is the agency situated now? Taboo: After creating a world renowned modeling agency, I have been the creator and executive producer of the show LX’s Next Top Model chronicling a show that consisted of the transformation of every day young women and men into potentially fierce supermodels. 10 participants lived together and vie for the incredible grand prize: *20K modeling contract with LX Elite Modeling Agency and the opportunity to be managed directly by Taboo Perian. *Teal or Lavender Lamborghini (winner’s choice) *A Townhouse (free tier) in LX Heaven (full sim owned by LX) * 5 page spread in LX Krush Magazine * 5 page spread in Dope Magazine * 5 page spread in Diversity Magazine 14

LX Elite Modeling Agency Models: Handy Dave (HandymanDave Resident) Imani: What are some of the things you are most proud of that you’ve participated in or done as a graduate of LX Academy and member of LX Elite Modeling Agency? Handy: I have been aware of my need to change and work on my avatar appearance. I have more confidence and poise because I found myself wanting to do more and be more outspoken. My experience at the agency made my self confidence grow. I have had a great life here at LX Elite Modeling Agency! Imani: What organizations, judging panels, businesses are you a part of now? Handy: I am a Business Manager at LX Elite Modeling Agency and have been for many months now. I found myself wanting to do as the people do around me, so a special thanks for those who inspired me to make the changes. Imani: How did LX Elite Modeling Agency help you in your career? Handy: It has given me hope that I will have my face and body in a lot of stores. I hope to be able to help sell many designer’s lines of clothing for men and accessories.

16

I love sports and fine jewelry and I wear fashion because it feels right. Others have shown me that there is more than doing things. It is about getting them done. I am happy in my choice! Imani: Is there anything that you’ve always practiced or remembered as a graduate of LX Academy? Handy: I do! I work on making sure I am dressed properly and have no alpha showing before I go anywhere. My clothes are of good quality and I love to guide others to good designers. Imani: What happened after you graduated from LX Modeling Academy? How did you continue in your modeling career? Handy: I have worked in a movie and done some videos, along with club events and advertisements for their venue. I have been modeling fashion from different countries for blogs and magazines. I hope I will get to do much more in my journey on Second Life. The agency has made a new man out of me. I am so thankful for meeting Mrs. Taboo Brady and the modeling staff she has employed. Each and every one of them have given me support and their honesty to help make this better for everyone.

17

Trinana Peach (Trinana3 Resident) Imani: What are some of the things you are most proud of that you’ve done as a model for LX Elite Modeling Agency? Trinana: Well so far we have completed our around the world series where we visited various international sims and showed off the national dress for each area. These photos are now part of the model portfolio on our website. Imani: What organizations, judging panels, businesses are you a part of now? Trinana: I don’t own any businesses in Second Life. I am a blogger, model and occasional hostess for friends or family events. Imani: How did LX Elite Modeling Agency help you in your career? Trinana: LX Elite will hopefully expose me to more modeling opportunities. I would like to do some print work for designers and appear in product photos, on Market Place etc Imani: Is there anything that you’ve always practiced or remembered as a member of LX Elite Modeling Agency? Trinana: The thing with every model agency is to be honest, respectful and timely! Be well prepared for assignments and remember to have fun! 18

Imani: What happened after you graduated from LX Modeling Academy? How did you continue in your modeling career? Trinana: I never graduated from LX Modeling Academy. I am a graduate of Miss Virtual World Academy and was taken on by Taboo as I already had the required training and skills. I try to help the other models that are still learning.

Sheva St. Claire (ShevarraVrinn Resident) Imani: What are some of the things you are most proud of that you’ve done as a model for LX Elite Modeling Agency? Sheva: I am proud that I have been able to help in promoting LX and looking for more designers to let us showcase their wonderful designs in our unique way. I am proud to have helped several others just getting into modeling. Whether it is as a mentor or just friendly advice I am always looking at the newest trends and how best to help out and make LX one of the best agencies around. New ideas and all new trends but keeping things to the brand that we adhere to.

19

Imani: What organizations, judging panels, businesses are you a part of now? Sheva: I currently have not had the honor of being a judge nor am I a partner in any business. I do my part in LX as part of the team to make it all work and make it fun as well. I would love to be a judge at some point if I am asked. Imani: How did LX Elite Modeling Agency help you in your career? Sheva: LX is my beginning I started here and intend to stay here and make it greater. The people here are wonderful and have such visions I just can only hope I can help them to achieve them all. Imani: Is there anything that you’ve always practiced or remembered as a member of LX Elite Modeling Agency? Sheva: To always dress like a supermodel and to always have class and composure. We are what others aspire to be so we need to show our best at all times in the public eye. Be gracious and answer questions if possible and if not try to send them in the right direction to the answers they seek. As models we are promotors.

20

Imani: What happened after you graduated from LX Modeling Academy? How did you continue in your modeling career? Sheva: I continue to help LX with new models and am always looking for new up and coming designers of all things. I still model for LX and for a few others upon request, mostly friends but I always refer them to LX if they need more then I can do for them. I constantly go to the most recent events to stay on top of the current trends and always look forward to how I might be able to help LX be greater. I almost always have on my model tag to show LX off.

After doing these interviews I can say that the fashion industry in second Life keeps growing every year, new stores open and others close, which contributes as they continue to the development of modeling and the model’s career, as well as other businesses like modeling agencies such as Lashay’Xyshay that keeps educating and giving aspiring models chances of a career and success. But also people passionate about what they love and do like Mrs. Taboo Brady, along with creativity and producing, makes an agency endure.

F U R RY D E S I G N E R : C O L E T T E O F S TA R B R I G H T By: Sarahelisebeth Brenham

Second Life is a platform of opportunities. You can be whatever and whomever you want to be here. I have only been a Human and a Vampire in Second Life, but have always been curious in what it would be like to be a Furry; especially with the new apparel and accessories constantly coming out for them. I’m happy to now say that I have been given a glimpse into what it’s like to be a Furry AND a designer! Read on to learn what I discovered about this lifestyle and profession. Sarahelisabeth Brenham: How did you first hear about Second Life?

Colette aka Staryna Resident: Ads on the internet and some friends of mine told me to try it too. Sarah: How have your first months on Second Life been? Colette: So far it’s been interesting learning how to do things. Sarah: Why did you decide to become a Furry? Colette: Well both of my parents are furries so I suppose I was born as one. Sarah: What do you feel a Furry can do that other species can’t and vice versa?

39

Colette: In my opinion absolutely nothing. With avatar customization options we can even use the same avatars and clothing. In fact, from what I’ve seen quite a large amount of my customers use my products with human and fantasy creature avatars. Sarah: How did you get into designing? Colette: I took an interest in digital art when I was very young, from there I kind of clicked with Blender. I guess I just found it fun and kept going, then when I joined Second Life I applied it here as well. Sarah: I know you design clothing for Furries but do you have certain styles in mind when you’re creating? Like Grunge, etc? Colette: I think that I must in time cover a variety of clothing styles since I focus primarily on supporting my Kemono body mods. Sarah: Outside of designing, what else do you enjoy doing in Second Life? Colette: I like to explore around and chat while meeting new people. I also have an amazing group that often like to spark up idle conversation. Sarah: Do you have any plans for the future? Colette: Yes and no, I plan to continue to make body mods, interactive clothing and accessories, but I like to keep the specifics up in the air and let them come to me one idea at a time.

40

It is always a pleasant opportunity to discover new people with different ideas and an alternate way of life. Despite our perceived differences, interaction teaches us that we actually share more similarities. Take a chance in meeting someone opposite of you, it could prove to be a sweet discovery and the beginning of a new friendship.

W h at i s yo u r ro l e p l ay ? By: Imani Kilah

A little about Role Play: I have been playing Second Life since 2007. This game was new for me, I had previously only played video game consoles using a joystick or controller. In Second Life there was no playing against a machine. This was interaction with real people and their real reactions. Relationships between avatars were very much like real life, but not— which I will discuss in another article. Thus, Second Life is where I fell into role playing.

What is Role Play? In role play, members assume the role of characters and collaboratively create stories. The participants determine the actions of their characters based on their preconceived qualities. These actions succeed or fail according to a formal system of rules and guidelines. Yet within the rules and guidelines, they may improvise freely; their choices shaping the direction and the outcome. Despite rules and structure, I find that it cannot be just a game. We are interacting with other people and (in varying degrees) getting involved with real life feelings and emotions. These real feelings and emotions can sometimes conflict with the purpose of a game, which is to entertain us.

45

In Second Life, the possibilities of avatar appearance are infinite. One can tailor their avatar to mirror their real life selves — a stunning and very fit version, of course. They can also choose to be furries, aliens, demons, vampires, the list goes on. They can engage in different role playing activities; some sexually oriented like BDSM (where someone is dominant or submissive), some urban scenarios, or vampire themed with clans and status, or role play as families with prim babies or adopting other users with kid avatars. Second Life, created in 2001, is a well-established game. It is always growing with members and advancing in graphics and technology. Role play is constantly evolving. There are always newcomers. Some arrive from other games, for some Second Life is their very first game. There are some residents who are completely unable to relate to role playing, which inspired me to present to our ENVY readers the different roleplays that exist today. This article will provide a little insight, investigate misconceptions and also integrate our different communities, activities and businesses. Today’s article will feature Kids Role Play and the Toddleedoo Community. Initially, kid avatars consisted of making a smaller shape and use of huds that crushed the torso and legs. Then mesh entered Second Life and users were able to create child mesh bodies that were better proportioned and more realistic. There are many designers of child mesh bodies, but the most popular are Toddleedo baby, kids and Tweeneedoos created by Bit McMillan. 46

I have contacted and interviewed some of the most active and successful kids on the grid to explain role-playing as a kid, why they chose it, their own businesses within the kid community and the fashion industry for the little ones.

Emani LaShon Everett Emani LaShon Everett (Emani Resident), role plays as a 5 year old Toddleedoo. Her hobbies include: shopping, taking pictures and modeling. She is the owner of a fashion showcase called BabiGlam. Imani: How long have you role-played as a kid and why did you choose this role-play beyond the others roles offered in Second Life? Emani LaShon Everett (Emani Resident): I have role-played as a kid since 2011, and I chose to role play as a kid to be able to have fun and be stress free, and I think kid avatars are really cute and fun and different than other avatars.

47

Imani: How is it to role play as a kid? Do you role play like a real kid? Do you feel it is mandatory to always stay in character? Emani: To role play as a kid is fun but also hard, I try to role play as much as real life kids but with a twist. Sometimes you have to step out of character when there ae situations with another person where you have to stand up for yourself, like when someone tries taking advantage of you. Imani: What do you think are misconceptions about role playing as a kid? How can they be debunked? Emani: The misconceptions of role play as a kid is because some adult avatars, even though in the beginning make friends it often happens that they leave us hanging like we are toys. Or if a kids doesn’t do what they say they don’t want them or label kids as users to spend all their money and move to another family. Then some people have requirements or certain qualities they want in a kid or a parent. Only way misconceptions can be debunked is if more people played their role the best they can. There are a lot of kids that really need love and want parents. Imani: Has role-playing as a kid had an effect on your business? Emani: Being a kid with a business is hard but a blessing. Maybe the hardest part is competing with other people for traffic, because the goal is to gain the most traffic in order to be successful. Imani: Is buying for your kid avatar easy? Are there certain items that are hard to find? If so, why do feel this happens? 48

Emani: Buying clothes for toddleedoos has blossomed more over the years. There are designers on the rise. One thing sad to say there aren’t enough hairs and hair bases for our avatars and we really need them! I think people are so caught up in the adult world they just don’t make them for us. A lot of us have to find creators that do hair we can resize.

Imani: What things do you think will improve the second life kid’s fashion industry and help the kid’s community? Emani: I think more fashion shows for kids as well fashion magazines and fashion store hunts. Imani: Would you like to add any final comments about kids roleplay? Emani: My final comments are, I think we should all be united instead of being at odds with each other. I found there has been bullying going on. For example, some people won’t blog or won’t include an event in a store because it isn’t popular yet, or some designers don’t participate in events for this same reason. We kids are supposed to stick together.

49

Yadielle Yadielle: (Master Qendra), role plays a 3 year old kid. His hobbies include: Dj’ing, editing pictures and creating. He works as DJ Skittles, owns a clothing store called Kidorable and is the manager of Boondocks, a family based community sim. Imani: How long have you been Role-playing as a kid and why did you choose this kind of role play over the others that re offered in Second Life? Yadielle: I’ve been role-playing as a kid since 2009, and the reason I chose being a kid in SL was due to real life, I didn’t have a chance to enjoy my childhood. So I’m here looking for the family love I didn’t have. I’m trying to erase bad memories and build new ones.

Imani: How is it to role play as a kid? Do you role play like a real kid? Do you feel it is mandatory to stay in character? Yadielle: Role playing as a kid is based on how you want to be treated, every kid wants to feel loved especially by from his parents. I love role play because everyone has a kid inside, no matter what you are going through. I think it is not mandatory to stay always in character.

50

Imani: What do you think of misconceptions about role-playing as a kid? How can they be debunked? Yadielle: I think there are so many misconceptions about this kind of role play, for example and excuse my language, that there are freak adults behind the kid avatars. However there are some people behind the kid avatars that try to do adult stuff and with their behavior you can tell that they are looking for more than friendship, and they don’t think that sometimes there are real kids behind the kid avatars. These kind of people shouldn’t be playing as a child, because for adult activity there are adult avatars. A way to erase this misconceptions about child avatars, is to make the difference with your role play and engage only in kid activities and show Second Life society we are not all the same. Imani: Has role-playing as a kid had an effect on your business? Yadielle: No Imani: Is buying for your kid avatar easy? Are there certain items that are hard to find? If so, why do you feel this happens?

Yadielle: I don’t usually buy clothing because I’m a clothing designer and wear my own creations. Yet there is some stuff that is hard to find because they only have it for adults. I think because designers just focus on adults and they forget that there are kids in this world too. For them everything is earnings and since some of the kid avatars don’t upload many lindens because they are kids in real life or because their real life budgets don’t allow it. 51

Imani: What things do you think will improve the Second Life kid’s fashion industry and help the kid’s community? Yadielle: I think it’s been improving these past years, because before there weren’t stores, or activities or communities and now we have all that.

Imani: Would you add any final comments about kids role play? Yadielle: I would like to say that children are not a property. They are people, precious individuals worthy of love, respect and protection. People to be listened to when they speak , comfort when they cry, treat them kindly, teach them devotedly, correct them compassionately, and love them unconditionally. If you want the world to be a better place start being better to children. If you think you have a kid inside of you, let it out! Don’t hide it, just enjoy being a kid no matter what.

52

Lily Lana Moretti Lily Lana Moretti (UnicornMuffins Resident), she role plays as a 5 year old kid. Her hobbies are spending time with her family. She owns a clothing store, Sugar & Spice since 2013, that she says is time consuming but addicting at the same time. Imani: How long have you been Role-playing as a kid and why did you choose this kind of role play over the others that are offered in Second Life? Lily: I didn’t dive straight into the kid life in Second Life, I started off as a vampire adult, working at clubs, also been married and adopted a cute little girl avatar who turned out to be a kid, we were family for a while but then went our separate ways. After that, I had been a furry, witch, adult companion, etc. I tried everything, but I started to miss the family life style so first I became a teen and ended up as a kid. Imani: How is it to role play as a kid? Do you role play like a real kid? Do you feel it is mandatory to stay in character? Lily: This can’t be answered by one person because it’s different for everyone, for me I think you don’t have to stay in character all the time, you can still role play as a kid and you can put twists on it. Like role play as an elf baby or maybe when throwing a tantrum pull out a big egg tosser and shoot your parents, not that a real kid can’t do this, but this is a game so you can do whatever you an so have fun with it. 53

Imani: What do you think of misconceptions about role-playing as a kid? How can they be debunked? Lily: I think people on the internet like to start things, they are called trolls, so there is no way to stop that. Imani: Has role-playing as a kid had an effect on your business? Lily: No, Sugar & Spice is a kids store so it only exists because I am a kid and I try to make things I think my character would wear. Imani: Is buying for your kid avatar easy? Are there certain items that are hard to find? If so, why do you feel this happens? Lily: Most of the time I wear what I created, but there are so many kid stores now that I consider it easy to find things for anyone’s taste and as for creators that don’t make things we can use, it’s a shame because we like to spend our lindens on things too so if they start doing stuff for kids it would increase their sales! Imani: What things do you think will improve the Second Life kid’s fashion industry and help the kid’s community? Lily: Well for me, because I don’t make my own mesh it would be a big help to have more mesh templates or people to go to commission mesh. Imani: Would you add any final comments about kids role play? Lily: Just that the kid community is growing! I can’t wait to see where it goes in the coming years!! 54

Sarah Tremor, owner and designer of Edelfabrik By Kiett Prince

Guten Tag E N V Y Readers! We are here with none other than the energetic and spry Miss Sarah Tremor the owner, mesh designer and creator of Edelfabr\k! She uses Blender, Photoshop and a little Black Forest magic to bring you original content for all mesh body types! If you didn’t guess it, she’s a German designer! We chat, we visit her store, we exchange horoscope signs and of course, I fan girl all over her! Kiett Prince (KP): *smiles warmly* Yay! Welcome to the E N V Y Magazine headquarters! *turns chair around to face Sarah, pulling out interview recorder* Oh wait Sarah! Is this your creation that you're wearing??? *Sarah is wearing a sexy outfit that reminds Kiett of a Tokyo inspired street style pink and grey ensemble that Kiett has not seen replicated anywhere in SL! Loving it!* Sarah Tremor (Sarah Tremor): Yes Kiett :) That’s one of my latest :)! KP: *grins* I love it!’ Sarah Tremor: :) Thank you! KP: You're so welcome! What is this look? Is this Edgy Punk?

Sarah Tremor: Well, most of my creations are slightly provocative in the way of "accidentally sexy", but not without class. And almost any of it is mix and match. KP: Which is super important! I hate not being able to mix and match! Now, the name of your store? *Kiett tries to pronounce it using a German accent* EDELFABRIK Sarah Tremor: laughs at Kiett’s accent....[Adele-fabric] :). KP: Where'd you get the name from? *laughs at herself* Sarah Tremor: Yes, thats a German word, a 2 word combination it means "noble factory" KP: I wasn't too far off track! German! *pats herself on the back* Are you German? Sarah Tremor: Yeah, I am German. *laughs* KP: Guten! I love my Germans! I think in your style, it is very modern German and street style Tokyo to me very sexy, very creative and unique!

Sarah Tremor: Yeah, that's how I see it. My creations are not gowns or haute couture. It's meant to be modern, standing out but also stuff you can wear everyday. And of course, a bit sexy. KP: nods emphatically! Yes honey! *two snaps up* What's the typical price range of your clothing items? 72
