MONARCH GARDEN By Lucy P.
Garden It was nice. I joined the community garden. I went and put

the flowers down.
Double Day Programs
At Westtown, I first put the dirt in the cup, then put the seed in there. Then we put the water in there, and it grew. I took

the seedlings to Monarch Garden and put them in the dirt in our plot. We grew lettuce, carrots, peppers, and tomatoes.

This is a long article about Sports. The basketball are in the playoffs. The Bulls season is over until Fall 2021. The Bears preseason is coming up in three months. "I'm getting ready for it," I said. "It's a nice pleasure." The Cubs are away tomorrow, and

ENVISION by Matthew M.
Thank you first off to Hannah for having me come to Westtown on Tuesdays and Thursdays. She's the greatest boss at Westtown and she is making Westtown the greatest. And the other one I want to thank is Martha for putting up with me when I first came here when I was in her area. She always used to wake me up when I was asleep, and I really appreciate Marta for what she did. I just want her to have a copy of my newsletter. She is a really great, great person. She is like a sister to me even though I have a sister already. I want to say to Aquillia - I am so very happy to hear that you are going to be my boss in her pod. I will work so very hard while I'm at Westtown. To my closest friend William, thank you for being everything like a brother. You are a true, true, most definite hard worker, and Westtown really appreciates it. If I was the boss, he should get a reward. Matter of fact, I want to thank Timeka. Timeka, when you first came to Diversey, I was getting used to my new workshop, which was Diversey. She told me if I ever have trouble, she told me to do the right thing. Kristen, she just is the greatest. I don't care how she do things, she just is the greatest and I appreciate her. And Winona, she makes us laugh at Diversey. She really do. And last but not least, my boss Allena. She works in the house. She always calls me her best buddy. I was giving her a hard time, and now I know she's my Training Counselor. I just want to thank Timeka again for everything. Just being at two places makes me feel better. I feel like I can achieve at both sites.
"I LIKE GOING TO BOTH SITES BECAUSE IT MAKES ME FEEL GREAT, LIKE I AM IMPORTANT."
THE ADVENTURES OF KATY DUKE A comic strip created by Westtown artist Tommy O.
I've been doing cartoons for about 40 years. This is an art project that I put together last week. I drew the cartoons and then I colored them. I knew Katie Duke back at boarding school. She is originally from Memphis, TN. I want her to see what the program at Westtown is like. I like to take my exercise walk around the program room, then I do exercise class, then we have lunch, then we take walks on the 606. After program, she goes home and stops at Subway on the way home to get lunch for the next day.
LEWANDOWSKI JOURNALISM CLUB The members of Lewandowski Center collaborate with local journalist Ruth Lopez to collectively write articles about current events.
PETS! We watch a lot of animal videos in class. We like to laugh and end class with a smile. During the pandemic, animal adoption has been very popular. People have more time to spend with their pets. A news report said that 12.6 million people adopted pets during the pandemic year. Having a pet is healthy in so many ways. For instance, people with dogs get more exercise. Many of us have had (or have) pets. Eunice had a dog named Chico. She liked walking him around the block. Linda had a cat named Snowball. Josie had a kitten, but she can’t remember her name. If she were to name her kitty today, she would choose the name Stacie. Michael has three dogs. “Two boys and one girl,” he said. “They play fight a lot so sometimes I have to stop them,” said Michael, adding that his dogs can do back flips. Yvonne said her family always had dogs when she was growing up. “Animals are like people,” said Linda. They need food and love.

CHICAGO ARCHITECTURE: THE THOMPSON CENTER The James R. Thompson Center on Randolph Street in Chicago’s Loop was designed by architect Helmut Jahn. The giant 17-story glass and steel building opened in 1985 and takes up one city block. “It looks like a spaceship,” said Jeff. The large open interior and glass was meant to symbolize open government and transparency. Architect Helm Jahn died in a bicycle accident on Saturday. His death reminds us of his contributions to the city. His most controversial building is the Thompson Center. For the people who worked there, it was either too cold or too hot because of all the glass. The building is in the news too because it is for sale and could be demolished. Preservationists are fighting to save the building.
PULLMAN NATIONAL MONUMENT About four miles south of the Lewandowski Center is the Pullman community. The neighborhood was built in the early 1880s as housing for the Pullman Palace Car Company. The factory made fancy railroad cars (called sleeping cars) that helped people travel overnight in comfort. “You could stretch out,” said Eunice. A large part of the factory still exists and in 2015, President Obama named the site a national monument. The National Park Service has been renovating the building (it has a clock tower!). The factory will be a museum that will open on Labor Day.
THE ROCK Dwayne Johnson is The Rock. He's a former football player and wrestler from Miami. He played for the Miami Hurricanes. He's half Samoan. He's a movie star. He did The Scorpion King, The Mummy, and The Game Plan. He's The Most Electrifying Man in Sports and Entertainment. I like his suits. I like his interviews. He makes fun of people and talks about them behind their back in interviews. Jim Ross interviewed The Rock to talk about his wrestling career. Mick Foley is The Rock's friend but they're enemies when they fight. Foley is known as Cactus Jack and Dude Love. Rocky Johnson is his father. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame for wrestling. He got a plaque. His grandpa is Chief Maivia. He's known as the Flying Hawaiian in wrestling. He plays the ukulele. Kennedy McMahon announced The Rock's birthday on TV. Mya sang "Happy Birthday" to him. His family was there - his mother, his wife, and his kids. He says, "Smell what The Rock is cooking!" I want to say "Happy Memorial Day" to his family. I give The Rock 5/5 stars because he's my favorite.
CHARLES' ENTERTAINMENT REVIEW WONDER WOMAN 1984 This movie is about a superhero, Wonder Woman. It's about her home, Themyscira. They have games there, like running, throwing sticks, and bow and arrows. That's where Wonder Woman trains. They have horses in there and fans cheering them on. The Smithsonian Museum is in the movie. Wonder Woman's real name is Diana Prince. She is played by Gal Gadot. She wears different clothes. Her high heeled shoes are nice. She wears them at the Smithsonian Museum and special events. She wears a gold costume and helmet when she fights. She finds a stone that is evil magic. They show her as a little kid. They show her on the black horse. The little girl rides the horse good and takes a shortcut. Kristin Wiig plays the Cheetah. Chris Pine plays Steve Trevor. He also played Captain Kirk in Star Trek. Lynda Carter makes a cameo. She was the first Wonder Woman. She was wearing a blue outfit and was just in the background. I hope she comes back to do it again. The music is different in this movie from the other one. I like it, but I like the credits music is better in the first movie. In the Special Features they show the Smithsonian Museum and how they turn it into the President's Oval Office. They also show how they have ropes on Gal Gadot's back to lift her up. They show how she goes under water. They show how they make her costume and what it's supposed to look like. They also show how they do the Cheetah's makeup and costume. They show bloopers like how Gal can't open the garage door. They talk with the cast and producers about the movie. I like the movie. It's a good a movie. My favorite part of the movie is the costumes. Patty Jenkins is a great director, producer, and writer. She deserves an Emmy, a big one! I give this movie 4.5 stars because it's a good script, and Gal Gadot reads it like a star.
