LEGAL AD MAY 4, 2010 PRIMARY ELECTION A Primary Election will be held on May 4, 2010 in Union County, North Carolina. Voters will be voting on Federal, State, County and Judicial seats. Polls will be open from 6:30 a.m. until 7:30 p.m. Democrats must vote a democrat ballot, Republicans must vote a republican ballot, Libertarian must vote a libertarian ballot and Unaffiliated voters may choose Democrat, Republican or Libertarian. If a Second Primary is needed unaffiliated voters must vote the same Party as in the First Primary Election. Absentee ballots are allowed. Requests for an absentee ballot must be made in writing and received in the Union County Board of Elections office by 5:00 p.m. on April 27, 2010. Absentee mail in voting begins on March 15, 2010 and ends at 5:00 p.m. on May 3, 2010. The Board of Elections meets to approve absentee ballots on April 13, 20, 27 and May 3, 2010 at 4:00 p.m. The Board will also meet on Friday, May 7, 2010 at 5:00 p.m. to approve any absentee mail in ballots that were postmarked by May 4, but received not later than three days after the election by 5:00 p.m. All residents of Union County who are registered to vote with the Union County Board of Elections may vote in this election. Voters who previously registered need not re-register for this election. Those residents who are not registered to vote must register on or before April 9, 2010 in order to be eligible to vote on Election Day. Any voter who has moved since the last election must notify the Board of Elections in writing by April 9, 2010. Persons who will be 18 by the General Election may register and vote in this election. A person may get forms at the Board of Elections Office at 316 B East Windsor St, all Union County Public Libraries, Town Halls, and a form is available on the Union County Board of Elections website at Forms should be mailed to Union County Board of Elections at P.O. One-stop voting hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. and on Saturdays, 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the Union County Public Library / Griffin Room located at 316 East Windsor St. beginning Thursday, April 15, 2010 and ending Saturday, May 1, 2010. There will be four satellite locations for voter’s convenience: Hemby Bridge VFD located at 6628 Mill Grove Rd in Hemby Bridge, Stallings VFD located at 4616 Old Monroe Rd. in Indian Trail, Wesley Chapel VFD located at 8821 New Town Rd in Marvin, and Wingate Community Center located at 315 W. Elm St. in Wingate. Voting at the satellite locations begins Thursday, April 22, 2010 and ends on Saturday, May 1, 2010. One-Stop satellite locations will be open Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. and on Saturdays 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Persons wishing to register and vote after the April 9, 2010 registration deadline may appear in person at a one-stop absentee voting site, complete the voter registration application form and provide proof of residence by presenting valid documents showing current name and address. Canvass Day will be Tuesday, May 11, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. in the Union County Board of Elections Office in Monroe. Per General Statute 163166.4. (a), (Buffer Zone concerning election day electioneering), county board of elections, shall, where practical, set the limit at 50 feet from the door of entrance to the voting place, measured when that door is closed, but in no event shall it set the limit at more than 50 feet or at less than 25 feet.
