gift!

The city hosts an enviable range of independent fashion boutiques, jewellers, artisans, shoe shops and vintage stores open in all corners of the city - holding their own alongside better known high street labels. In a compact city centre, this strong and diverse mix is unique - you’ll discover that Truro is not a clone of other towns. Take a wander through Victoria Square leading onto Kenwyn, River and Little Castle Streets for original styles, surf labels, and vintage galore. Head to Nalders Court where you are spoilt for choice in glam evening wear and colourful trends. Walk through New and Old Bridge Streets and all that’s in-between to find locally crafted accessories, shoe shops and even a wool shop. Cathedral Lane offers an eclectic mix of gorgeous gifts from clothing, accessories and perfume to locally made art and rustic accessories for your home.

City of Lights simply wouldn’t happen without the generous support of our sponsors and partners. Donations leading up to the event and on the night are greatly appreciated and go a long way to securing the future of this much loved event. New for 2013, the ‘Buy a Bit’ campaign has been launched allowing people to support and donate to the event by buying something that will go towards the parade. Whether it is a bunch of withy’s for £2 or a school workshop for £100, this wonderful way of donating gives you the chance to be part of this event. So next time you cheer the children on from the crowd you can say 'I made that happen.'

Travel and Transport

Disabled Parking

Truro collectively has over 3,000 car parking spaces between its nine city centre car parks so there is ample space if you choose to drive. Look out for the electronic signs situated on the major access routes to the city centre, informing you of the availability of parking spaces in the car parks.

Disabled visitors, who hold and display a disabled badge, are able to park on the following streets (please note that disabled parking will be suspended in certain areas to support the road closures that will be in place on Wednesday late night shopping evenings. Additional disabled parking will be made available in the Moorfield car park but please check before starting your journey): Lemon Street, Boscawen Street, River Street, King Street and Duke Street. Certain car parks have designated spaces for disabled visitors, these are: Garras Wharf, Old Bridge Street, Moorfield, Viaduct and Lemon Quay.

See the map page for locations of all the car parks. For further information and car parking tariffs visit wwww.cornwall.gov.uk for council car parks, www.ncp.co.uk for High Cross car park and wwww.rcpparking.com for the Tabernacle Street car park.

Shopmobility Go! Truro Truro's shopmobility scheme - allowing anyone with a temporary or permanent mobility problem to access the city. The service is available to residents or visitors to the city. Go! Truro can be found at the Moorfield Car Park on the Calenick Street entrance. The centre offers the loan of a range of electric scooters and manual wheelchairs to the general public. The first time you use the service you will be required to bring proof of identification and you will be asked to fill in a short registration form. You will then be asked to pay a small annual membership fee to maintain the centre. The staff will then train you how to use the equipment. This should take no longer than 15-30 minutes and when you feel ready off you go! It is recommended to ring the office in advance to arrange the loan of your equipment. Opening Times: Tue - Sat (excluding Bank Holidays) 10am - 3pm 01872 241813 www.gotruro.co.uk

Truro is the retail and commercial centre of Cornwall and boasts an enviable range of independent shops and multiples. In a compact city centre, this strong and diverse mix is unique - Truro is not a clone of other towns. Its intriguing and eclectic offer of art galleries, bars, restaurants, nightclubs, a cinema, the Hall for Cornwall, Truro Cathedral and the Royal Cornwall Museum make it a year round destination for those who live, work or visit the city. Truro was the first location in Cornwall to introduce a Business Improvement District (BID) as a method of realising the views and aspirations of local businesses to improve their trading environment, along with an appropriate budget and resource to deliver. Truro is also the first location in Cornwall to successfully renew its BID. A Business Improvement District (BID) is a precisely defined geographical area of a town, city or any other commercial district where ratepayers have voted to invest collectively in local improvements that are in addition to those already delivered by the local authority. Truro’s BID is delivered by Totally Truro a dedicated not-for-profit company – and is delivering projects such as this guide and this year’s stunning festive lighting scheme. For more details please see www.enjoytruro.co.uk

We have tried to list everything, but as this guide went to press during October not all events were confirmed. If there’s something you think we’ve missed out then please let us know by emailing us at info@totallytruro.co.uk and we will endeavour to add it to our website listing.
