Suppression of the Alpha Male Prior to the 1970s, role models for young men were plentiful. Their attributes were well described and positive. There were examples of successful men shown in many situations: head of family, business and political leader, sports participants, doctors, lawyers, assembly line workers, minors, airline pilots, explorers, military people, etc. There were self-improvement and further education plans as well as manual skill development programs and technical education schools, all mainly developed around what the male would need In order to support a family. Women were viewed as the supplicant gender in sex. Men were seen as the aggressor which led some to miss the point that in other than rape cases females are the gender which controls when and if sex occurs. She was also expected to comply with his expectation for sex which also led to the misconception of the male being dominant. The reasons for the choices back then are important for this article only to draw context for looking at how things have changed since those days and accessing what the impact may be of these changes on males. Minority groups within society began getting more attention while gaining a greater part to play in societal decision making as women rose in prominence. There have been several minority groups identified: Women, people by place of origin [Latinos, Asians, and the like], Blacks, Disabled, LGBT people and some others.

female, if modified. That 'their' female should look up to and respect them. They think they should be the decision makers in their relationship while conceding the woman's things, such as decorating the abode and controlling the house hold issues, to 'their' female and that they are to be the ultimate disciplinarian in the family. Their image, as they see it, is still that they are head of the relationship with 'their' female. They fall back on sports to bolster this. They still believe they voluntarily concede leadership to 'their' female and that society as a whole supports that belief. Weakness in a male is a very bad attribute. It diminishes his very reason for achievement and his feeling of self-worth suffers.

Males have always dealt with rejection by females of their advances but they still had the strong leader role models in the media to look up to and be impressed by. This is no longer Recently there have been very the case. bad actions by younger males which resulted in deaths of Television is the main source innocent people and I'm left of input to society. It seems as though role of protector of 'their' that may be the case. ENIGMA

The portrayal of the sexes on TV impresses society with what the genders should be. An example is the female complaint of the desirable female: slim, physically fit, well proportioned, and beautiful. As for the young male: gone are the strong role models; the clear thinking, decision making heroes he imagines his role to be. He does not have an area of activity which is free of females. There is no place where males can be males without the effect of female disapproval of his priorities and value system. In nearly every advertisement, and most of the sitcoms on TV the male is portrayed as a bumbling idiot, incapable of existing without a female to make decisions, protect and defend him. Even in the world of sports the reporting and discussion programming is no longer men's province. Although the sport is contested by

men, women, some who do not even play the game, now lead the discussion panels and news reporting, replacing the men who once did that. The young man needs role models, not anti- alpha male models and not simply men who excel at a game. With only impressions of inadequate males and the leadership of females on TV, and in some cases, his mother leading the family, the young male has nowhere to turn to legitimatize his need to be a competitor. Does this diminish his achievements; his sense of self-worth? Is achievement academically an alternative? How does he deal with the frustration? What role in society does he see for himself? How would he act out in this situation? What effect might that have on the already difficult need for gaining respect from males and attracting a female?

Winning the World Cup Jurgen Klinsmann was wrong. The U.S. has already “won” the World Cup. The coach of the U.S. men's national team (known as “the USMNT” to serious soccer fans) was pilloried after he stated that his charges had “no chance” of winning the 2014 World Cup. How on earth could a coach demotivate his team like that? Is he crazy? Those were the two most common questions after Klinsmann's comment gained media traction. The former German WC star had already alienated a lot of USMNT fans by leaving veteran Landon

Donovan, our country's all-time top scorer, out of the 23-man roster he submitted before the team headed to Brazil. But… saying your team has “no chance” of winning the WC before they step on the field for their first match? Klinsmann had to be crazy…

what heartbreaking 2-2 draw with Portugal were the best-ever for a televised soccer match in this country. ESPN's broadcast of the match averaged 18.2 million viewers and maxed out at 22.96 million between 7:30 and 8 pm. By comparison, the USMNT's 2-1 victory in their first WC 2014 match averaged 11.1 million viewers. The landmark soccer ratings eclipsed the NBA finals (which averaged 15.5 million viewers) and the World Series (which averaged 14.9 million)…

…Crazy like a fox. No matter what happens when the U.S. faces Germany at noon on Thursday, Klinsmann's 2014 WC squad might well be remembered as the team that put soccer over the tipping point in the U.S. Ratings for last Sunday's some- …Before the WC began, no one thought the U.S. would be able to escape the “group of death.” The smart money was on Germany and Portugal to move on to the “knockout” portion of the tournament. (One loss and you're out.) Portugal was ranked fourth in the world prior to Brazil, but got hammered by Germany in its first match. The Ghanian team that got beaten by the U.S. managed a 2-2 tie with the Germans. So the U.S. and Germany head into Thursday's critical match even on points. Soccer matches often come down to moments of sheer brilliance or momentary lapses. Michael Bradley's turnover in the waning seconds gave Portugal a last-minute attack that cost the U.S. the match and a guaranteed place in the final 16. Cristiano Ronaldo, ENIGMA

one of the two best players in the world (along with Argentina's Lionel Messi), delivered a picture-perfect cross to Varela that he headed past U.S. goalkeeper Tim Howard with just a few ticks left in extra time. The play was poorly defended and Howard, who stopped several shots that a lesser keeper couldn't have, had no chance… …No chance. When Klinsmann said the USMNT had no chance of winning the World Cup, he took all of the pressure off of his team and put it on himself. The U.S. was fortunate to get past Ghana, but genuinely outplayed Portugal. Despite having one less day of rest than the Germans, no one is saying the U.S. has no chance on Thursday. It will take an incredible match for the U.S. to win and a very, very good match for the USMNT to come away with a tie… …But the U.S. has already “won” the World Cup. American soccer has been elevated by the performances of the USMNT so far. The world's favorite sport is gaining traction here and our German coach is leading the way. Dear Rocco, I read online the other day about a local celebrity that ran afoul of the law. No big deal, just basically showing their ass in public and got arrested for it. He was interviewed about it and said, “It just goes to show you that I make the same mistakes as normal people”. Normal people? Who the hell is he? I’d like to whip his privileged ass if I ever ran across his path. JL Dear Rocco, Why is it that some people don’t get a clue and understand they have overstayed their welcome? Do I have to beat them down or call the police to make them understand? I’m a nice guy – almost too nice. Now I want them gone and to quit taking advantage of my good nature. FG

DENVER (UPI) - A Colorado man who was accused of smoking methamphetamine is now facing attempted murder charges after he was allegedly able to squeeze off two shots at Denver police officers from a gun he had hidden in his butt. Isaac Vigil was being brought to the police station after DPD officers repeatedly searched him when he somehow managed to open fire. Vigil stopped firing when his gun

jammed and officers shot him in the stomach. The 32-year-old was taken into custody after he was seen smoking meth in a McDonald’s parking lot on May 14. Vigil was facing numerous charges, including possession of drug paraphernalia, assault, felony menacing, and possession of a weapon. It was difficult to search Virgil because he was “violent and aggressive” and “highly agitated,” but officers reported that the suspect was patted down three times, according to KUSA.

ENIGMA

Prior to the shooting Vigil threatened to shoot the officers several times and claimed that he had been smoking meth for three days. In addition to the handgun, Vigil had two baggies of meth stashed in his “rectal area.” “I conclude that under applicable Colorado law no criminal charges are fillable against Corporal Sisneros,” the Denver District Attorney wrote in a letter that was released on Monday. “My decision, based on criminal-law standards, does not limit admin-

The alleged thief was busted after

bagging bras and pinching panties that had been left out to dry on lines and balconies in the northern Italian town. The 28year-old conducted his undergarment-snatching operation overnight. When police searched the suspect’s home in nearby Pocopaglia, he allegedly had “a house full” of women’s underwear, La Repubblica reported. According to the paper, he had harassed a former girlfriend in the past. According to the Local, a 64-year-old Italian man was also arrested for stealing 17 bras from a supermarket in August. Renzo Cavalieri’s arrest came only months after he was released from a year-long sentence that he had received for stealing underwear. “I have no idea why I keep stealing bras,” he reportedly told police. PHILADELPHIA, PA. - If you thought salads were kinky, this Pennsylvania man accused of using Swiss cheese to sexually proposition unsuspecting women has pleaded guilty and been sentenced to probation. Christopher Pagano pleaded guilty to indecent exposure and harassment. In addition to eight months of probation, he must undergo sex offender counseling. The 42-yearold was arrested in January after three women reported that a man had driven up to them and offered them money to put

cheese on his genitals and perform a lewd act. A fourth victim later came forward. The story went viral after a Philadelphia neighborhood watch group posted a blurry cellphone picture on its Facebook page of a half-naked man in his car holding up what appears to be cheese. The group dubbed him the “Swiss Cheese Pervert.” PAPATOETOE, New Zealand (UPI) - A 25-year-old New Zealand woman in the hospital to have her ovaries removed due to pain and cramps was instead found to be pregnant. Rebecca Oldham had already been put under anesthesia in November when surgeons discovered she was 32 weeks pregnant with a 9-pound baby. “I was facing not being able to have any more children because they thought there were problems with my ovaries and all of a sudden we had a son,” she said, adding that she and husband James Tipene have a 20-monthold daughter, Hayley. Doctors woke Oldham up from anesthesia to tell her they would perform a caesarian section to deliver her baby instead of remove her ovaries. “I am so glad they woke me and told me I was going to have another baby,” she said. “Even though it was short notice it was better than waking up and being handed a baby.” Oldham told the New Zealand Herald she

had had blood tests and other tests after she started complaining of pain in her abdomen, but doctors never discovered her pregnancy. Oldham and Tipene named the surprise baby James. One Serbian study suggests up to one in 7,225 women don’t realize they’re pregnant until delivery. PARMA, Ohio (UPI) - “Check point ahead! Turn now!” That’s the message that was written on a sign that Doug Odolecki was holding up while standing on an Ohio street corner on Friday night. The final two words of that sign earned Odolecki a ticket and a court date because they were allegedly obstructing official police business. Odolecki was warning drivers in Parma about the upcoming drunken-driving checkpoint for about an hour before Police Lt. Brian McCann asked him to remove the last two words from the sign. When Odolecki refused, he was given a ticket by officer James Manzo. Odolecki told Cleveland.com that McCann and Manzo “tried to be a civil as they could knowing they were violating someone’s rights.” Attorney John Gold is representing Odolecki pro bono, because he supports “the police accountability activist movement.” “The problem here is not the sign in general. It’s the part of the sign that instructed drivers to turn that the officers had an issue

with,” Gold said. “But I think regardless it’s protected speech under the First Amendment.” INDIA - A teen in India is being worshiped because of his seveninch tail. It wouldn’t be the first time a guy has been worshiped because of his “tail”, but what makes this story bizarre is that his tail is actually growing out of his back! Locals have hailed the wheelchair-bound 13-year-old as an incarnation of the Hindu monkey god Hanuman - and refer to him as Balaji. His home was converted into a temple where worshipers gather to receive his blessings and touch his tail. “A lot of people’s wishes come true,” says his grandfather, who lives with the boy. According to one woman, she was in a coma until family members asked Balaji to pray for her, and when he did, she came out of her coma. Balaji’s health has been deteriorating, and it is unclear if the tail has anything to do with it, but family members are hoping it makes a difference. “Doctors may remove my tail but people will continue to have an unshakable faith in me,” the boy said. If it weren’t a stipulation that the tail has to be in the back, I could move to India and become one hell of a god.

JUNE 26

GR GOODWIN & FRIENDS

COME OUT AND ENJOY SOME OF THIS AREA'S FUNNIEST YOUNG COMEDIANS FEATURING G.R GOODWIN AND FRIENDS.

JUNE 27 & 28

JAMES GREGORY

JAMES DOES NOT “TIP-TOE” THROUGH LIFE AS IF HE’S WALKING ON BROKEN GLASS OR EGG SHELLS. THAT STYLE IS EVIDENT ON STAGE AS WELL. HE IS NOT POLITICALLY CORRECT. MUCH OF HIS HUMOR IS CENTERED ON BRILLIANT OBSERVATIONS OF CRAZY RELATIVES AND PEOPLE’S OBSESSIONS.

JULY 3, 5 & 6

ROY HABER

BORN IN ISRAEL, ROY HAD YOUR AVERAGE BEGINNING. THEN, AS IF THE CONFUSION OF HIS ROOTS WOULDN'T EVENTUALLY TURN THIS LITTLE BOY INTO A SKEWED MAN, HIS PARENTS PULLED A MEAN TRICK... THEY DECIDED TO RAISE HIM IN KENTUCKY. WHETHER IT'S MAKING FUN OF HIS HEIGHT (5'2”), TACKLING PERSONAL ISSUES, SLAMMING AN ANALYTICAL MAGNIFYING GLASS ON WORLD EVENTS AND SOCIETY IN GENERAL, OR SHARING A STORY FROM HIS TRAVELS.

JULY 16 ONE SHOW ONLY!

MICK FOLEY

HE'S A THREE-TIME WWE CHAMPION, A HARDCORE LEGEND AND A MEMBER OF THE WWE HALL OF FAME. NOW, MICK FOLEY IS UNLEASHING THE SAME TRADEMARK BLEND OF WIT AND WISDOM, WILDNESS AND WARMTH THAT MADE HIS BOOKS SO BELOVED (FIVE SELF-PENNED NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLERS) INTO HIS ONE-MAN SPOKEN-WORD STAGE SHOW, “TALES FROM WRESTLING PAST”.
