EMERGING DANCER CELEBRATING THE TALENT OF TOMORROW’S STARS
Tue 17 May, 7.30pm
As Artistic Director of English National Ballet, I am delighted to welcome you to the seventh annual Emerging Dancer. It is very important for English National Ballet to continue to stage this competition and for you, our audiences, to witness young talent being celebrated in this way. We are committed to the ongoing artistic development of our dancers and to nurturing the stars of the future. They are all dedicated and exceptional individuals but only one can be awarded Emerging Dancer 2016 tonight. We will also see the announcement of the People’s Choice Award, voted by you - our audiences - across the UK between October 2015 through to April 2016, and a brand new Corps de Ballet Award given to an exceptional Artist of the Company that has gone beyond the call of duty. Last year’s Emerging Dancer winner, Jinhao Zhang will partner Shiori Kase (2011 Emerging Dancer winner) in the pas d’esclave from Le Corsaire whilst Laurretta Summerscales (winner of both the 2013 and 2015 People’s Choice Award) will be partnered by Max Westwell (2011 and 2015 Finalist) in the famous balcony pas de deux from Romeo & Juliet. I hope you enjoy this evening, and that you will continue to follow and support these talented artists. Tamara Rojo CBE
