Introduction • Have you ever wanted to write poetry, but didn’t know how or what poetry means and how it can be a way used to communicate freedom? • In my opinion poetry is a way to express our feelings, and making our feelings impact other people only through some words. Poetry can be something personal or something public. Poetry is something that has a true meaning. • Writing poetry can make you feel free, In this poetry portfolio we have created some freedom poem’s, please enjoy.

Dedication I Dedicate this piece of Literature to my friends, family and the reader.

Poetry There we were, Playing to our hearts content. We swung like two blue jays flying swiftly beyond the clouds We talked as fast as a humming bird’s heart beat Our time was as precious as our lives, Our time was endless We took different paths, I started making new friends While you stood in the dark Every time we meet, we had a spark But never found the fireworks we once knew Your joyful arms longing towards me But I was too happy to leave my imaginative world You moved and it felt as though my heart broke into pieces Now I know my other half has just departed Now I stand in the mirror looking at my other half, The person before me Now doesn’t realize the true person I am.

About the Poem • The Poem “Friendship”, was written last year, I chose the poem to be in my poetry portfolio because it can also be interpreted in the theme freedom. In my opinion this poem can be interpreted in many different perspectives. The perspective that I read it in was the comprehension of Racism. In the story it talks about a black kid and a white kid being friends, and in the poem it talks about the obstacles that they go through and how they get separated because of Racism.

Haiku The blue shining sky Birds chirp their morning tune Leaves dance, listening langit biru yang bersinar Burung berkicau lagu pagi mereka Daun tari, Mendengarkan

About the Poem • I wrote this piece of Haiku because this represents freedom. The Blue shining Sky represents the law. The Birds represents the white people and the leaves represents the black people. The story that would have come to mind, after explaining what all the subjects represent might have been a conflict between the white and the blacks. This poem is like a formula, you can put in any three variables that cause a conflict and that could be another way to interpret this poem. There are two poems one is in English and the other is in Indonesian.

Haiku The Silent pond sings Fish color the plain water Each one of them goes Kolam diam, bernyanyi Ikan warnai air biasa Masing-Masing dari merka pergi

About the Poem • I wrote this piece of Haiku because it represents freedom. The silent pond sings represents the mixture of both bullied or non bullied people (including the bullies). Fish color the plain water; this means that both the Bullied and the non bullied reunite together and become friends; freedom.

Haiku The trees sway to silence, The grass, listens carefully The wind leaves with laughter Pohon-pohon bergoyang untuk diam, Rumput, mendengarkan dengan hati-hati Angin daun dengan tawa

About the Poem • The poem is inspired from a small field trip that we went to during class time. This poem is about how there are different stages of importance; Overall leaders, leaders, follower’s. Everywhere in the world there are leaders who understand what they are doing and would do anything to help others, but there are some leaders who would do the opposite. The followers are just the people who choose which path they want to take, and if none of the choices are what the people want to take, than basically the follower’s don’t have enough freedom to create they’re ideas.

Found Poem A person is born free Not wanting to be enslaved All the things a free person can do, One can love freedom, for themselves But there are different people, who are generous enough to say ' if I die, I will die trying to give liberty to our people' A man would rather face death, and fight for they're country than a life of slavery. This is why freedom, is important
