The ancient Olympic games The Olympic were created by one of the biggest heroes in the Greek mythology and they were closely linked to the Zeus religious festivals but they were not completely a part of them and were reestablished on 8th century b.C. by king ephitos to prevent eternal wars and all the hostilities were stopped while the games were played. When the Olympic trues was declared all the soldiers stopped fighting and put down their weapons during the periods of the games. At first the Olympic games were heeled in Olympia, Greece. A lot of people joined the Olympics, poets, actors, musicians, philosophers, etc

When an athlete won they recived their award right after the competition. Following the announcement of the winner’s name and afterwards the hellandokis (which means greek judge) would give the winner a palm branch, while the spectators cheered , red ribbons were tied to his head and hands as a sign of victory.

The Olympic games were so big and important that married women were not aloud to watch the Olympics or even being anywhere near to the stadium but unmarried woman were aloud to watch the games.

The ancient games included the pentathlon, jumping, discus throw, wrestling, boxing, pankration and equestrian events as the Olympic sports.

The official award ceremony took place on the last day of the games, at the temple of Zeus. In a loud voice the winner’s name, father’s name and homeland was said. And at the end the hellandokis placed an olive’s tree wreath on the winner’s head.

The games were very strict, they had very strict rules and if an athlete violated them he had to be punished.
