In conjunction with Central Pennsylvania Blood Bank, the Faith in Action Ministry will host its first blood drive from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 5. The blood drive will take place in the parish hall of St. Edward’s Episcopal Church, 2453 Harrisburg Pike, Lancaster.

Once known as Social Outreach, the Faith in Action Ministry is run by a committee made up of members from St. Edward’s Episcopal Church. The committee is responsible for coordinating projects that establish and maintain a relationship between the community and the church. Committee members aim to schedule events and projects in tandem with religious seasons such as Pentecost, Lent, and Easter. Since the church is currently celebrating Pentecost, the committee found it fitting to host a blood drive.

“I’m looking forward to, and hoping for, a successful turnout,” stated Leslie Arnold, Faith in Action Ministry committee member and primary blood drive coordinator. “According to Central Pennsylvania Blood Bank, one pint can save three lives. People should participate for the sake of giving back in terms of helping others as a result of their donation.”

On the day of the blood drive, the Faith in Action Ministry will promote its project called Books for Prisoners. Throughout the summer, the committee will collect books for a small library that an Episcopalian prison chaplain will keep for prisoners in Lancaster. The committee is looking for donations of Bibles, devotionals, inspiring biographies, and more. Paperbacks are preferred, but hardcovers will be accepted. For a specific list of books that will be accepted, visit http://bit.ly/BooksForPrisoners.

Arnold said she hopes that other Episcopal churches in Lancaster County will participate in the blood drive.

Walk-ins will not be available at the blood drive. To sign up for a time to donate, visit http://bit.ly/StEdsBloodDrive.

Ettelman Posts Art Auction

Approximately 100 works of art by Ron Ettelman will be exhibited and auctioned on Thursday, June 3, at 6 p.m. at Boltz Auctions, 3601 Columbia Ave., Lancaster. A preview will be held on Wednesday, June 2, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The auction is being held in connection with the retirement of Ron and his wife, Virginia. After 45 years of business, the Ettelmans recently closed the doors of Dream Framer and the Ron Ettelman Gallery in Mountville. The building went to auction on May 13.

The artworks to be sold in the upcoming auction are those items that remained at the Ettelmans’ building and that they cannot store. Half of the proceeds of the auction will be donated, with 25% of sales going to the Lancaster Museum of Art and Demuth Museum and 25% going to the Ware Center.

Ron described many of his works as whimsical, often with a deeper story lurking under the surface for viewers to interpret in their own way. In 2016, he previously presented a retrospective exhibit of 153 works at the Ware Center. This exhibit’s title, “Down the Rabbit Hole,” described the artist going to the studio in the basement of his farmhouse to work on his art.

For more details, call Boltz Auctions at 717-392-4257.

Haunted Tour Auditions Set

Columbia’s Haunted Lantern Tour, presented by Rivertown Theatre Productions, will hold auditions on Saturday, June 26, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Art Printing Company, 131 Locust St., Columbia. No prepared lines are necessary, and no experience is needed.

Auditions are open to individuals age 16 and older. Anyone under age 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Interested participants may call or text Becky at 717-517-2442 to schedule a 15-minute time slot.

Various speaking and non-speaking parts are available for both amateur and professional actors. Many male and female roles are available, varying from monologues to interactive scripts. Rehearsals will begin in July.

The cast needs at least one man of color ages 40 to 70 to play a historical hero from the 1860s. The role is small, but prominent, and will feature an interactive script performed with five other male cast members.

This year’s theme is “Unfortunate Events,” and the tour will explore the tragedies that have befallen the town throughout history. The hour-long walking tour will balance historical narrative with entertainment. The Rivertowne Trolley will be included in the event once again.

Tickets will go on sale on Sunday, Aug. 1. For audition details, advertising opportunities, or ticket sales, contact Sara Mimnall at 717-449-4254 or Rebecca Wright at 717-517-2442.
