Court granted a new charter for the merged congregation. Eight acres of land along Route 230 were purchased on March 11, 1958, midway between the two original congregations. The name Chiques was selected because the new property was situated midway between the Big and Little Chiques creeks. On Easter Sunday, March 29, 1959, ground was broken for the new church. The cornerstone was laid on June 7, and the new building was dedicated on Nov. 10 of that year.

Chiques United Methodist Church (UMC), 1215 E. Main St., Mount Joy, celebrated its 60year anniversary on Nov. 3 with an anniversary banquet at The Gathering Place in Mount Joy. The anniversary celebration began with a worship service at 9:45 a.m. with a morning message by the Rev. Dr. Reid S. Thomas Jr. At the noontime banquet, Michael Byrd, the current pastor at Chiques, provided the welcome and invocation. The dinner was then served family style, with the menu including fruit
