It is a great idea having the cake as the dessert, as it means you are not paying for your guests to essentially have two desserts, though I only knew of one of my brides doing this last season. Keep in mind a wedding cake is normally quite dense (ie mud cakes and rich fruit cakes) to enable it to carry the fondant icing and complement the ganache so, even if you are serving your cake for dessert, your guests may not need large slices.
