01 ARCHAEOLOGY Once a dairy farm and village, the Wallace Centre and its vicinity retains man made relics from the past that are easily missed and forgotten in this nature setting. Celebrating the value of these remnants of the past, this eco-lodge serves as an archive and prompts users to take on the perspective of archaeologists in appreciating the artefacts on site. Vertical elements of frames are set ups in a rhythm that breaks or changes at specific positions to draw the attention of users to artefacts of archaeological interest or to accommodate various programmes of the lodge.

02 REGENERATION In our city, we are used to tearing down things and reducing a built land back into a blank slate, before rebuilding on it again. This phenomenon of tabula rasa is a development process that leaves us with no trace of memory in the city. This project explores ways a building can regenerate itself and grow organically to adapt to changing needs of its users, and that preserves relationship and history. It seeks to bring back an understanding of historical scale and relationship instead of demolishing them as a big site.

COMPOSITE SITE PLAN OVERLAYING THE FOOTPRINT OF THE FORMER KAMPONG KUCHAI AND THE EXISTING CAMPUS OF THE WINSTEDT SCHOOL.


By studying what used to exist at the site, Kampong Kuchai, ideas of village circulation, spatial

hierarchy and addition logic of the village houses have been translated into a system of spatial organization. The design intervention is a series of clusters inserted into the school building at the current site, employing the derived spatial system.


ITERATION MODEL PHOTOS


The clusters adopt different programs available at the special needs school, illustrating how the same organizational system derived can be adapted to changing demands of the users. Through the device of slanted planes, main learning spaces are defined with a geometry different from its rectilinear subsidiary spaces. The same device also created in-between spaces before cluster entrances for transitional purposes. The system also involve outgrowth of spaces that cantilevers out of the existing building, serving as supplementary spaces with microclimatic design considerations.

03 INTEGRAL LANDSCAPE This project explores the use of a reciprocal module of recycled laminated wax cardboard, with the lamination varied by thickness and length, to create a grid shell roof. The strips are joined together in different methods and in different stacking arrangements to allow for shelter against rain, the growing of plants to shade against the sun, channelling of prevailing winds and the ability to take live loads. These functions are combined into an Integral Landscape where roof, walls and floor merge into one another.
