BRANDING PROJECT ALBGREEN CONTRACTING
For the past few years, I had the opportunity to work with Albgreen Contracting, a small, family-owned company whose focus is all things home renovation. As their main graphic designer, I worked closely with other members of the company and implemented their input, in addition to my own, to create print materials such as the company logo, brochures, business cards and invoice templates. Along with consistency, they wanted clean, simple and beautiful. I delivered just that.
RICHMOND GREEN SECONDARY SCHOOL — MATH CLUB Graphic designer meets math? Aside from being a graphic designer, I am a full-time engineering student and for as long as I can remember, I have always enjoyed mathematics (sorry not sorry). In my final year of secondary school, my school’s math club asked me to design some posters to attract more individuals. I did. I designed three simple, clutter-free, eye-grabbing posters that implemented the school’s colours, some easy-to-understand mathematical jokes, as well as various typographic elements. While some people cringed (i.e. the math haters), the club increased in size by 13% from the previous year!
// Number sense and numeration! Throwing it back to the good ol’ days of elementary school math, a time when many still understood the subject.
// A relatively overused math joke manipulated to meet this campaign’s objective. The different elements of typography (i.e. font size & typeface) were purposely used to direct the viewers’ eyes from top to bottom.
// A little bit of matrix algebra never hurt nobody (hahaha, said no one ever). The typographical elements of typeface, hierarchy, contrast, consistency, alignment, white space and colour were used in order to create a design that was clutter-free, as well as aesthetically pleasing.
POWERPOINT PRESENTATIONS PERSONAL & EDUCATIONAL
In the span of my relatively short lifetime, I have sat — and by sat, I mean slept — through a surprising number of powerpoint presentations. Powerpoint presentations are meant to enhance the information one is conveying, however, most end up being carbon copies of the presenter’s script. Rookie mistake, but lucky for you, I ain't no rookie! Each of my powerpoint’s, which were created using the MS Office Suite (shocker, I know) and Adobe Photoshop, were crafted with two purposes in mind: to summarize and to entertain.
CLARA HUGHES BIOGRAPHY This was a presentation completed for a Grade 12 Kinesiology class, outlining the history and biomechanics behind the sports this Canadian athlete played, as well as the trials and tribulations she had endured throughout her lifetime. The powerpoint included both animated graphics, as well as real life photos created/edited on Adobe Photoshop and a video edited on Adobe After Effects.
A PITCHING CRASH COURSE This was a talk I gave in front of the student teams that were competing at the York Region District School Board Climate Change Hackathon. I discussed the different components of a pitch, as well as mentioned the general method to set up and execute one. There was quite a bit of information I presented, which is why I kept the design concise and clear of clutter. The entire presentation was put together on MS Powerpoint, while Adobe Photoshop was used to create the icons.
CULTURE SHOCK This was a presentation I gave on Greece’s food practices and availability for a Grade 12 Nutrition class. To keep it as clean, professional and authentic as possible, the ratio of real photos was greater than that of animated elements. Adobe Photoshop was used to create the graphics and edit some images implemented, while MS Powerpoint was used to put the presentation together.
FILM & ANIMATION PROJECT EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES
In addition to print materials, I have some experience in the world of filmmaking and animation. Using only Adobe After Effects, Adobe Photoshop and the MS Office Suite (i.e. Word and Powerpoint), I independently designed, animated, recorded and edited a two-part crash course video that highlighted the physics concepts of gravitational, magnetic and electric fields. Yes, my physics teacher loved me after this.
TECHNICAL DESIGN REPORT
FIRST YEAR ENGINEERING GRAPHICS & DESIGN COURSE One of the major engineering projects I completed this past year was that in my graphics course where I had to design, CAD and construct a working prototype of a right hand prothesis while having to meet several space, movement, as well as material constraints. Every part of this design process was documented in the format of a technical design report. Adobe Indesign was used to put the entire report together, while Autodesk Inventor was used for the 2D and 3D engineering assemblies of the prototype.
PHOTOGRAPHY EURO TRIP 2017
I have been incredibly blessed to have had the opportunity to travel to countries across Eastern Europe, such as Albania and Italy. Both countries were so rich in history, culture and tradition — not to mention full of beautiful architecture! This next section is a photo essay highlighting my time spent in Europe through a camera lens. All photographs were taken by the Canon EOS 6D DSLR Camera and touched up using none other than Adobe Photoshop.
