ENDEAVOR is a word with many meanings

that all point in the same direction. Originally derived from the Latin verb debere (to owe), it was later modified in French to “mettre en deveir,” meaning “to do one’s duty,” and then tweaked again in Middle English to become endeveren (“to do one’s utmost”). In modern English, Endeavor can be a noun and a verb, both of which revolve around striving to achieve a goal. What a perfect synopsis of our first 20 years and guidepost for the future. When Peter Kellner and I co-founded Endeavor, we shared an unfailing belief that we could change the course of economic development if we provided essential support for high-impact entrepreneurs in emerging and growth markets. Our goal was—and remains— not to do this alone but to create a powerful network of board members, mentors and Endeavor Entrepreneurs who would share this vision—this ENDEAVOR—and make it their own. This year, I’m happy to report record numbers from our Entrepreneurs:

Endeavor supports over 1,500 entrepreneurs representing more than 1,000 companies.

Endeavor Entrepreneurs have created more than 700,000 jobs.

Endeavor Entrepreneurs collectively generated over $10 billion in annual revenue and raised $413 million in growth capital in 2016 alone.

We also achieved some impressive new milestones: Endeavor now operates in 30 countries, including our newest launches in Ecuador, Tunisia, Kenya and Nigeria, as well as our fourth U.S. city, Atlanta.

Endeavor OPEN launched as an online platform enabling our entire network to connect directly, and our team adopted a new approach to serving our entrepreneurs through nine dedicated industry verticals.

Over 300 network members attended our bi-annual Endeavor Entrepreneur Retreat in California. Over 60 entrepreneurs also attended

2

custom executive leadership courses at Harvard and Stanford Business Schools.

We closed Endeavor Catalyst II LP, our pioneering, rules-based co-investment fund, with over $75 million in commitments. Collectively, Endeavor Catalyst Funds I and II—managing investment capital of over $100 million —have now co-invested alongside world-class VC and growth funds in 63 Endeavor Entrepreneur-led companies across 19 countries. Returns from Catalyst will benefit LPs as well as ultimately fulfill Endeavor’s quest to become entirely self-sustaining.

We could not have made it to our 20th Anniversary without YOU: Our board members, mentors, partners, team members, and entrepreneurs around the globe. The theme of this year’s Impact Report—Faces of Impact— highlights YOUR passion and commitment. We hope you’ll enjoy the photos and stories about these champions and help us salute the thousands of others who have shared our mission. Still, ENDEAVOR is about striving to achieve a goal. So while we celebrate where we are today, we recognize that our work is nowhere near finished. We still have much more to do to help high-impact entrepreneurs remake a better world. We hope you’ll join us on that journey. Onward and upward! Linda Rottenberg

Co-founder & CEO, Endeavor

I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN attracted to Endeavor

because it is an organization that convenes people who think big: 1,500+ Endeavor Entrepreneurs have created many hundreds of thousands of jobs and generate billions of dollars in annual revenue; 3,000+ mentors donate over 30,000 hours of their time each year; and our 450+ team members worldwide coordinate a rigorous selection process, while delivering an ever increasing number of post-selection services, all at an unparalleled level. Thinking big is part of Endeavor’s DNA. It was core to the incredible idea hatched by Linda Rottenberg and Peter Kellner 20 years ago, and it guides Endeavor’s growth as we look ahead to our next decade. That said, before everyone else can think big, there is a group of people who need to start the ball rolling. These are the 600+ board members—both founders and current—who steer our operations around the world. Without their support, we would never be able to achieve the consistent ability to spread Endeavor’s model and deepen our impact. Endeavor board members bring extensive rolodexes, a keen knowledge of local markets and exceptional energy to each office, not to mention crucial financial support. They also form the core of investors in Endeavor Catalyst, our co-investment vehicle that promises to transform the way Endeavor operates and funds itself in the coming decade. A critical part of Endeavor’s boards is that they are not static. Founding board members— including some of Endeavor’s most fundamental

early supporters like Eduardo Elsztain of Argentina, Beto Sicupira of Brazil, Naguib Sawiris of Egypt, Pedro Aspe of Mexico, Gabby Rozman of Uruguay, Ali Al-Husri of Jordan, and Adrian Gore of South Africa—provide a leading role, but, over time, promote a second generation of leaders. Sadly, we lose some of our greatest lights, as we did far too soon with the passing of Jennifer “Fern” Oppenheimer, a founding board member of Endeavor South Africa, and Soledad Saieh, a founder of Endeavor Chile. Most gratifying, however, is the arrival of dozens of our own successful Endeavor Entrepreneurs, who now serve as board members at Endeavor Global and on many of our local boards. In paying it forward, these dynamic men and women bring a fresh perspective and truly make Endeavor an organization “of, by and for entrepreneurs.” As we celebrate our 20th Anniversary, we want to recognize the many people who have served on our boards over the past two decades. We’ll soon invite them to become part of a new Endeavor Ambassadors program that will honor those who have led our mission. We hope they will continue to serve as one-on-one mentors, join us as panelists and observers at our International Selection Panels, participate in Endeavor Catalyst, and accept invitations to attend our annual worldwide board gathering, held around the Global Gala in New York. In closing, I want to extend my personal gratitude to all of our board members for the world-class stewardship they have provided and continue to provide. Your belief in thinking big enables all of us at Endeavor to do the same. As ever, Edgar Bronfman, Jr.

CEO, Accretive Endeavor Global Board Chairman

Twenty years ago, Co-founders Linda Rottenberg and Peter Kellner, and founding board members Jason Green and Gary Mueller, sat around a kitchen table and laid the framework for Endeavor on the back of a napkin. Here, Jason Green reflects on that moment and the journey forward.

FROM… As a young VC, I spent time in Eastern Europe with entrepreneurs and realized how many additional barriers they had to be successful. When I met Linda and Peter, they were so passionate about helping entrepreneurs globally I knew I had to get involved. Before I knew what happened, I had committed to joining the board of Endeavor. I told Linda I’d commit for one year … I’m going on my 20th year of service to the organization. In late May 1997, Linda, Peter, Gary Mueller and I sat in Peter’s kitchen in Manhattan at Endeavor’s very first board meeting, eating takeout Chinese food and brainstorming on the back of a napkin until the wee hours how some young, unproven Americans might put a dent in the universe of global entrepreneurship. We settled on a founding mission and envisioned breakthrough results to operate in eight to ten countries and select 100 entrepreneurs that we could identify and help to become role models of success. Like most great journeys in life, we overestimated what we could accomplish in a year or two, but vastly underestimated what we accomplished in a decade or two. CONT IN U ED O N N E X T PAG E u

Today, Endeavor operates in 30 countries around the globe and has selected over 1,500 entrepreneurs. Endeavor is a mission-driven organization, built by and for entrepreneurs, with a self-sustaining, scalable financial model. I've been lucky to be involved with many VCbacked "homeruns" in my career, but there is none that have given me more pleasure and satisfaction than the 20 year journey with Endeavor. I have made lifetime friendships and seen first hand that a small group of passionate people really can change the world. It's been an amazing 20-year journey, and I am so proud of what the organization has accomplished. I love entrepreneurship and believe it is the most powerful and empowering engine for reaching human potential yet invented on the planet. With Endeavor I have become part of a global community of my people, the ones who share a worldview and passion for seeing opportunities to make a difference, thinking big, and, when successful, paying it forward to the next generation. Jason Green is a founder and general partner of Emergence Capital and has been in the venture business for over 20 years. In 2017, Emergence Capital was named as the National Venture Capital Association's Venture Firm of the Year.

In 1997, Linda Rottenberg and Peter Kellner sat down and, like many entrepreneurs before and after, sketched their vision on the back of a napkin. Peter had just returned from a Harvard Business School trip to China, where he had witnessed firsthand the boom in entrepreneurship that would transform that country. For Linda, the light bulb moment for Endeavor came in the back of a taxi cab in Buenos Aires. She struck up a conversation with the driver and was shocked to learn he had a PhD in engineering. She asked if he had considered becoming an entrepreneur instead of driving a taxi. “An empresario?” he said dismissively, using the Spanish word for a big businessman. It suddenly occurred to her that there was no Spanish word for “entrepreneur.” Twenty years later, that “business plan” on a napkin has become a shared vision, cultivated and expanded by board members, staff and entrepreneurs around the globe. Their passion and commitment have created a movement and transformed Endeavor into something far bigger than the founders could have imagined. (And today, the word “emprendedora” is part of the Spanish lexicon, in large measure due to Endeavor's work!) The following pages tell the story of Endeavor’s impact, past and present, and visions for the future, through the voices and faces of just some of these individuals in our worldwide network.

WENCES CASARES Patagon.com / Xapo – Selected 1998 Endeavor Argentina

Wences Casares was born on a sheep farm in Patagonia, the son of a rancher. “The biggest impact my father had on me was showing me how to be a doer,” Wences says. “Living in the middle of nowhere, we constantly had to come up with creative ways of solving problems,

like digging trenches or building bridges on the side of a mountain.” One of the first entrepreneurs selected by Endeavor, Wences was operating his nascent e-trading platform, Patagon.com, from his apartment kitchen in Buenos Aires. Two years later, he sold the business to Banco Santander for $750 million. The news electrified young entrepreneurs across the region. “If Wences can do it, I can do it too,” they said. Since then, Wences has been involved in a number of successful ventures. Today Wences is renowned as a successful international fintech

entrepreneur and a next-generation payments and bitcoin thought leader with his company Xapo. Even more important, Wences turned his attention to helping others, serving as a top mentor, investor, and board member for the Endeavor network, paying it forward to the next generation of entrepreneurs and serving as a true role model. “Endeavor is the way of bottling the best know-how of the business world, and bringing it to parts of the world where it’s not reaching currently,” Wences says.

MARCOS GALPERIN MercadoLibre.com – Selected 1999 Endeavor Argentina

When Stanford Business School graduate Marcos Galperin returned home to Argentina in 1999 and launched MercadoLibre, an online auction company modeled on eBay, some said it was a copycat. In fact, Marcos and his co-founder

Hernán Kazah had tweaked the model to serve the needs of regional customers, focusing on innovations in payments and delivery. MercadoLibre quickly took off. The next year, when eBay purchased a stake in the company, Endeavor mentors helped the entrepreneurs negotiate the terms. In 2007, the company went public on the Nasdaq. In 2017, MercadoLibre replaced Yahoo! on the Nasdaq-100, and shortly after became the first Endeavor company to surpass a $10 billion market cap. In the meantime, Marcos joined

the board of Endeavor Argentina, and became a mentor to thousands of entrepreneurs both in- and outside of the Endeavor network, including the founders of Globant [p. 22]. “I believe in Endeavor's mission that helping high-impact entrepreneurs is a great way to move societies and the world at large toward a better, more meritocratic and more balanced future,” Marcos says, reflecting on serving in various roles in the network. “As an entrepreneur, Endeavor has inspired me to think big and to stay focused in building a long-term organization.”

LEILA VELEZ ZICA ASSIS Beleza Natural – Selected 2005 Endeavor Brazil

Leila Velez grew up in the slums of Rio de Janeiro. Her mother was a maid; her father, a janitor. In the early 1990s Leila was serving hamburgers at McDonald’s. But she had a dream. Leila was frustrated by how few hair products there were for the curly locks of Afro-Brazilian women like her. “Poor people deserve to feel beautiful, too,” she told her sister-

in-law Zica, a hairdresser. In 1993 the two amateurs turned Leila’s basement into a mad scientist’s lab, perfected their formula, and opened a salon without any outside funding. Soon women in Rio were waiting four to six hours for an appointment, and customers were crediting their products with not only improving their hair texture but also boosting their self-esteem. From a single salon, they’ve grown into a national company with more than 6,000 employees and revenues over $250 million. “Now, I can see a lot of young women proud of their curls,” says Leila. “I’m really proud to be part of this movement in Brazil.”

Giving back is important to Leila, and to Beleza as a company. Beleza is the first employer for 90 percent of their workers, many of whom are single mothers in their early 20s. Beleza offers them training and tuition discounts with partnering universities, paving the way for them to become role models in their communities. Over the years, Leila has also paid it forward to the next generation of entrepreneurs, serving as an active mentor in the Endeavor network. And today in turn, Endeavor is helping Leila forge connections and introductions in New York City as she expands her dream—opening Beleza salons in Harlem and beyond.

CLAUDIO SASSAKI EDUARDO BONTEMPO Geekie – Selected 2016 Endeavor Brazil

Claudio Sassaki (left) wanted to send his eldest daughter to a school where all four of his children could learn at their own pace. Eduardo Bontempo’s family beat the odds when his father, the child of immigrant shoemakers, successfully graduated from college, lifting the next generation out of poverty. Eduardo envisioned a system where every Brazilian had equal access to the high-quality education he received, regardless of poverty or privilege. Inspired by these systemic challenges, Claudio and Eduardo threw themselves passionately into entrepreneurship. The duo founded Geekie, an adaptive platform that uses AI and machine learning to customize Brazilian students’ learning experience 16

to their individual needs. With Endeavor’s help, the entrepreneurs were able to hone their business model to maximize their impact. “One of the lessons that being an Endeavor Entrepreneur taught us was to focus and have discipline,” says Eduardo. “This value is part of our culture.” “Being part of the network helped our company reach another level,” Claudio adds. In just five years, Geekie has reached 99.8 percent of Brazilian counties in both private and public schools, helping students on average achieve an increase of 72 points in their grade over the year—a statistic similar to the historical gap between public and private school students. Today, Geekie has reached over 5 million students in Brazil. But, Claudio says, “Building a successful company is not enough. For us, the impact of doing it is equally important. It means being capable of deeply understanding the problem and generating a disruptive transformation in the life of whoever uses our solutions.”

Mentorship is central to Endeavor’s model. In 2001 Pedro Aspe, Mexico’s former finance minister, invited Linda Rottenberg to visit a group of wealthy Mexican businessmen in one of the country’s most exclusive clubs. Pedro was interested in encouraging entrepreneurship in Mexico and offered to introduce Linda to some “key businessmen,” including billionaires Carlos Slim and Emilio Azcarraga. One of the men started off: “Linda, we don’t understand. We’re starting to see young entrepreneurs in Brazil, Argentina, and Chile. Why not in Mexico?” “With all due respect,” Linda said, “you are the big fish. Here in Mexico

If you want entrepreneurship to thrive here, then why don’t you think of building an aquarium—that’s Endeavor—where the big fish learn to feed the little fish?” One year later, Endeavor Mexico launched, with Aspe as the founding chairman and four others in the room on the board. Over the next decade Endeavor set up offices in nine Mexican states and mentored more than 80 high-growth companies. In 2012 Mexico’s leading business magazine published an article about the country’s thriving entrepreneurial ecosystem. The headline: Big Fish Feeding the Little Fish. The source of the quote: One of the men in that room.

A true pioneer in Mexico, Clip has charted new paths for local fintech companies in the country’s rapidly growing economy, raising rounds with international funds—including Endeavor Catalyst—at a time when outside interest was sparse. Adolfo’s commitment to developing and improving the local entrepreneurship ecosystem goes hand-in-hand with his own goals for Clip. HARVARD CASE STUDIES Examining Endeavor’s Inflection Points

Thanks to the early support of Harvard professor Bill Sahlman (below), Endeavor was first featured as a Harvard Business School Case Study in 2003. “I was co-chair of the Global Advisory Board early on in the development of Endeavor,” says Sahlman. “At each meeting, we

would discuss organizational goals and funding challenges. The first case I developed addressed exactly those issues. The case (and all subsequent cases) introduced Endeavor to students at HBS and beyond. What was the problem that Endeavor was trying to solve? How many countries should it operate in? How could it get local buy-in? What should the relationship between Global and Local be? How could the organization generate the revenues required to sustain itself ? How could it accomplish its mission of improving economic development in each country?”

The first Harvard Business School Case Study about Endeavor is written and taught in the highly popular Entrepreneurial Finance course.

In 2009, Harvard Business Review published a new Case Study that looked at Endeavor’s expansion beyond Latin America into the Middle East. Four years later, as Endeavor looked to expand into the United States, HBS saw another inflection point. The 2013 case focused on the decision to expand into Miami as well as the launch of Endeavor Catalyst. Sahlman estimates that over 10,000 HBS students—as well as a large number of students at other business schools—have studied the Endeavor cases as well as Case Studies written about a number of Endeavor Entrepreneurs. A recent 2017 study written by Harvard Professor Lynda Applegate focuses on Guillermo Jaime Calderón, whose company has pioneered the development of low-cost housing in Mexico. Applegate teaches at the week-long HBS program for Endeavor Entrepreneurs and serves on the board of Endeavor Detroit. “My hope is that students gain a deeper understanding of the role in economic development from studying Endeavor,” says Sahlman. “They also learn about the challenges of scaling a global social enterprise. The HBS-Endeavor connection has been important for both organizations over the past 20 years.”

Since joining Endeavor, the Globant team has been highly engaged with Endeavor’s work, serving as mentors, ISP panelists, and donors. Martín Migoya and Guibert serve as board members of Endeavor Argentina, and Guibert was recently named Chairman of the board. The story of the Globant founders is a testament to Endeavor’s model and the multiplier effect of entrepreneurship as the team becomes role models for, and investors in, future generations of entrepreneurs. “I believe the first job an entrepreneur has is to replicate himself,” Guibert says. “We need to be able to convey our dreams; we need to make our dreams become our people’s dreams; we need to lead by example.”

Yemeksepeti Co-founder and CEO Nevzat Aydin first conceived of the idea to bring online food ordering and delivery to Turkey in 1999. There was only one problem: No one in Turkey was actually online at the time. Crazy as the idea seemed, the foresight of Nevzat and Co-founder Melih Ödemiş paid off. Endeavor Turkey was also an early believer in the two entrepreneurs, selecting them as part of the first class of Endeavor Entrepreneurs when the office launched 10 years ago.

In 2015, the entrepreneurs sold Yemeksepeti for $589 million to Delivery Hero in the largest-ever acquisition in the food-ordering sector, and the largest Internet-related deal in Turkey, as well as Endeavor Catalyst’s second exit. Nevzat and Melih made headlines around the world when they elected to share $27 million worth of bonuses with over 100 employees following the acquisition, showcasing the entrepreneurs as role models and extraordinary leaders. Later that year, in research sponsored by Intel Turkey and highlighted in major newspaper Hürriyet, Nevzat was identified among the top three entrepreneurial role models by university students in Turkey. He trailed only Apple’s Steve Jobs and Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg, but came out ahead of Bill Gates! Since selection, Yemeksepeti has played an integral role in growing the local entrepreneurship ecosystem in Turkey. When Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows was released in 2007, Ala’ Alsallal wanted the people of Jordan to be able to enjoy it. So, he gathered a team of 50 people to help him translate the anticipated novel and posted it online, to a wildly popular reception. Unfortunately, he also received a cease and desist order from J.K. Rowling’s lawyers.

Nevertheless, Ala’ came out of that experience motivated. He realized a real demand for high-quality Arabic content existed in Jordan. Several years later, he launched Jamalon, an online bookstore, which provides unparalleled access to a comprehensive catalogue of nearly 10 million books in English and half a million in Arabic. The company has reached hundreds of thousands of customers in the MENA region. Selected into the Endeavor network in 2011, Ala’ will quickly tell you the impact Endeavor Global Board Member Fadi Ghandour, who has mentored Ala’ for a decade, has had on his growth as an entrepreneur. Today, Ala’ gives the following advice to entrepreneurs looking to start and scale a business in the MENA region: “First, start in a country where you can run your company at an affordable cost to prove your model and attract funding. Second, scale in a country where you have a supportive ecosystem. Third, build a team culture from the beginning, and make sure to hire people who believe in your vision, so they become partners along the way. MONA ATAYA Mumzworld – Selected 2013 Endeavor UAE

Mumzworld Founder and CEO Mona Ataya has entrepreneurship in her blood. Growing up in Kuwait, Mona watched both her grandfather and father succeed as entrepreneurs, inspiring her and her four siblings to become entrepreneurs themselves.

’1 3 32

In 2000, Mona co-founded Bayt.com, which grew into the Middle East’s largest job portal. But after having her third child, she grew frustrated with the poor variety, limited availability, and high prices of baby and mother products in MENA. She enlisted the help of her Bayt.com co-founders to launch Mumzworld, which quickly took off due to the company’s low prices, quick delivery and free return policy. The company has won numerous awards for its impact in the region. With Endeavor’s help, Mona recruited top talent, raised additional

capital, and found partners for ongoing regional expansion. “The network is fantastic. Endeavor gives us access to so many resources, educational programs and funding,” says Mona. In 2016, Mumzworld successfully raised a Series B financing round and became Endeavor Catalyst’s first ever investment in a female entrepreneur. “For me personally, the fundraising part of the business is the least enjoyable, and a distraction,” says Mona. “Endeavor Catalyst helped us quickly close a round with some fantastic investors, and has given us an anchor to the brand.”

IDRISS AL RIFAI Fetchr – Selected 2015 Endeavor UAE

Across the world, more than 2 billion people live without an address. With Fetchr, Idriss Al Rifai is helping postal deliveries reach them—starting in the MENA region. The Dubaibased company is tackling delivery challenges by going directly to customers’ phones and capturing their geo-location for package deliveries. “My vision is to have an impact across emerging markets and change the way customers living in countries with no street 34

addresses and postal systems receive their packages,” Idriss says. Selected as an Endeavor Entrepreneur in 2015, Idriss turned to Endeavor’s global network of mentors and entrepreneur peers for advice and support as Fetchr grew and looked to raise funds. That same year, Fetchr became the first scaleup in the Middle East to receive funding from a top Silicon Valley venture capital firm, New Enterprise Associates, and invited Endeavor Catalyst to participate in the round. “I believe this really put the MENA region on the map for investors from outside the region,” Idriss says. “Suddenly people were taking note of what can be accomplished in this market with the right type of backing. I am proud we bridged the gap

between local entrepreneurs in the region and investors from the western parts of the world, and I am proud to be able to show San Francisco-based VCs that we have plenty of talent in the region.” Today, the “home grown startup” from UAE has expanded to six countries and employs more than 2,000 people. “Having an impact means not only creating business value for your organization but really creating value that transcends your industry,” says Idriss. “But it also means creating jobs and making sure these jobs are sustainable. We work to make sure that people can not only offer a decent living to their families but also relate to what we do and be proud of something bigger.”

“MY PERCEPTION ON WHAT REAL IMPACT MEANS HAS EVOLVED WITH ENDEAVOR. IT IS ALL ABOUT ACHIEVING GROWTH THAT IS SUSTAINABLE AND SCALABLE ACROSS MARKETS, AS WELL AS EMPOWERING YOUR PEOPLE TO TURN INTO LEADERS OF THE ORGANIZATION.”

KENNETH COBONPUE Kenneth Cobonpue – Selected 2016 Endeavor Philippines

Kenneth Cobonpue’s path to furniture design began at a young age. “I was born in the world of furniture,” he recounts. At his interior designer mother’s furniture factory, Kenneth grew up with the local craftsmen and artisans who made her designs, and who eventually taught him to make his own pieces. There, he found a passion for design, which he pursued

’14 36

in his studies in New York, then working in Italy and Germany. He later returned to Cebu to run his mother’s factory, implementing his own aesthetic designing modern, handmade and natural pieces, and launching his own brand, which Endeavor supports today. “Endeavor helped me realize there’s always more to be done, and that the bigger picture needs more attention. I’ve been pushed to ask questions I would never have asked before,” says Kenneth. “I intend to use everything I learn at Endeavor to look beyond the horizon and expand my company in as far as touching lives and making a difference.”

His designs have done just that, captivating the likes of Queen Rania of Jordan and Angelina Jolie, and featuring in Hollywood productions such as Ocean’s Thirteen, as well as fine-dining establishments and hotels across the world. But when Kenneth considers the impact he’s made as an entrepreneur, that’s only part of the equation. In his own words, impact means doing what you love and achieving something bigger than yourself. “The people behind our company have always been the soul of our vision,” he says of his 300 employees. “Seeing my designs come to life is truly satisfying, and knowing that they are handmade by extraordinary men and women from my hometown who practice exquisite craftsmanship makes it even more meaningful.” “I’m proudest of having created a homegrown brand by utilizing the abundance of natural materials and skilled craftsmen in my country,” says Kenneth. “Asia is known as the factory of the world, not as a source for originality and creativity. I wanted to change that, so I decided it was time for the world to recognize great modern Filipino design. I hope to leave this legacy for many other talented and creative Filipinos to be able to look back to their heritage and give back to our country.”

In 2010, Caitlin, Jenny, Jessie and Julie James had a collective longing to take control of their lives and create a meaningful living. After months of planning, the sisters chose to move back in with their parents and pour all of their time, energy, and resources into building DROUGHT, which became the first cold-press juicery in Michigan, and the leading certified USDA organic juice brand in the Midwest. Endeavor has supported DROUGHT as the company has scaled, connecting the entrepreneurs to key mentors and invaluable

marketing resources. DROUGHT has grown to six retail locations today, and the James sisters are planning for national expansion. “As third generation Detroiters, we recognize the local push to get back to the basics—increased accessibility to organically grown fruits and vegetables, and wider distribution of high-frequency, living foods are among our top priorities,” the sisters say. “DROUGHT is made in Detroit and can be shipped anywhere in the U.S., nourishing people everywhere.”

DAVIDE DATTOLI Talent Garden – Selected 2016 Endeavor Italy

While working at Condé Nast, digital marketing enthusiast Davide Dattoli and his friends agreed they needed a shared working space, where they would not only be able to work sideby-side but also share creative ideas. Born out of these casual conversations, Talent Garden launched as a network of coworking spaces—the first company of its kind in Italy. Though founded at first as a side project, Talent Garden quickly took off, and Davide left his job to pursue the venture full time. At its heart, Talent Garden is a company for entrepreneurs. “Having an impact as an entrepreneur means helping other people to succeed in their own work, and creating an environment that stimulates innovation and creativity,” says Davide. As Talent Garden has grown, Davide has looked to Endeavor’s global network to connect with mentors, as

well as other entrepreneurs—many of whom seek work spaces like those Talent Garden provides. The first company selected by Endeavor Italy, Talent Garden also became Endeavor Catalyst’s first investment in Italy with Davide’s invitation to participate in the company’s Series B round. “Our core philosophy is based on fostering innovation, embracing diversity, and tapping into the creative potential that is the lifeblood of the startup and the freelance economy,” says Davide. “We are scaling to help digital talents achieve their potential and enter new markets, with ambitious growth aspirations akin to the likes of Endeavor.”

Motivated by the challenge to improve and save lives (“What else matters?” asks Thomaz), he and co-founder Guilherme Azevedo launched dr. consulta. “When I founded dr.consulta,” Thomaz says, “I just assumed, ‘If the problem is that big, we’ll just open a medical center and patients will start flowing in.’ But when we opened our doors, no one showed up.” That all changed when a journalist from a major Brazilian newspaper wrote an article about the young company. Today, the company operates 25 medical centers across São Paulo,

servicing more than 80,000 patients each month, and over 1 million unique patients overall. And with Endeavor’s help, they’re still growing. “Endeavor removed the barriers once-established to think big.” Thomaz says. “To me, being part of the Endeavor network means I am responsible to improve our world and help others to do the same. As an entrepreneur, I'm most proud that I embarked on a huge challenge to change the status quo and began changing it.” Thomaz and Guilherme were the first Endeavor Entrepreneurs to receive an investment from Endeavor's second co-investment fund, Endeavor Catalyst II.

In 2012, INSEAD MBA graduate Ambareen Musa resigned from her consulting position with Bain & Company in Dubai to found Souqalmal.com (Arabic for “money market”), the first independent comparison website in the Middle East. With financial education content and over 3,000 products available for unbiased comparison, including credit

cards, loans and insurance, Souqalmal has created a transparent marketplace and empowered consumers throughout MENA to make smart decisions about their money. With Ambareen at the helm, Souqalmal has scaled to great success and helped blaze the trail for a growing interest among prominent international investors in the MENA region. Just months after Amazon acquired Souq.com and China’s Didi Chuxing invested in Careem, Ambareen closed a $10 Million Series B round co-led by major British comparison site GoCompare.com, and with participation from Endeavor Catalyst. “Instead of trying to do it on their own, they are starting to see that the talent is there, the infrastructure is there and that we’re attracting a lot of international players,” says Ambareen of the influx of investment in the region.

“I believe that I was put on this earth to make a difference,” says Ken Njoroge. With Cellulant, Ken is breaching the financial inclusion gap throughout the African continent, connecting merchants, banks and mobile operators with their increasingly mobile customers through its electronic payments services. The company has already seen tangible success: Cellulant was able to transform the agriculture sector in Nigeria, driving up the

income for 7 million farmers by 300 percent in just four years. “I am proud to see that the work I do—building a large values-driven business—actually changes the lives, outlook and ambition of the people I work with,” Ken says. “Every day, I also get to see the same impact with the customers we serve across Africa—a continent I am deeply committed to and I so dearly love.” Selected as the first entrepreneur from the recently-launched Endeavor Kenya office, Ken has tapped into Endeavor’s global network to connect with thought leaders in the payments space as he works toward his goal of connecting African consumers with up to 7 million businesses, and claiming a piece of a $20 billion payments market. “They’ve served as a sounding board as I continue to refine the Cellulant story and bring clarity to our strategy moving forward,” says Ken.

FADZARUDIN ANUAR VIVY YUSOF Fashion Valet – Selected 2017 Endeavor Malaysia

Co-founders and real-life couple Vivy and Fadzarudin were taken with the convenience of online shopping while living in London, buying everything from groceries to clothing. But once back in Kuala Lumpur, they grew frustrated with battling hours of congested traffic to travel from mall to mall, each one housing a different local designer. So Vivy and Fadzarudin convinced 10 local designers to join 44

them, pooled their personal funds of $30,000, enlisted the help of developers to create a simple but functional website, and leveraged the followers of Vivy’s already successful personal blog to launch Fashion Valet (FV) as a one-stop-shop for all of Malaysian women’s fashion needs— in the span of just one month. Their scrappy approach worked. With over 400 designers under its belt and four privately owned labels, FV has positioned itself as one of the largest online fashion players in the regional market. In 2015, the company launched its own clothing line, as well two retail stores in Kuala Lumpur and one in Singapore. The founders approached Endeavor with the same tenacity, using the

selection process, over 30 mentoring sessions, and a custom Endeavor program at Stanford to take a critical eye to their business and consistently work to continue to grow it. “We worked so hard to get through this process. It really changed us,” Vivy says. “In two years alone, we grew our revenue five times. And it’s all because people asked us the right questions. We quickly pivoted the business, dropped what didn’t work and improved what did.” “FV is bigger than just my team and me,” Vivy reflects. “The more we grow, the more local designers grow too. It’s bigger than us, bigger than me, and that’s why I feel so passionate about FV.”

“FV IS BIGGER THAN JUST MY TEAM AND ME. THE MORE WE GROW, THE MORE LOCAL DESIGNERS GROW TOO. IT’S BIGGER THAN US, BIGGER THAN ME, AND THAT’S WHY I FEEL SO PASSIONATE ABOUT FV.”

An accomplished entrepreneur, executive, and investor, Reid Hoffman has played an integral role in "blitzscaling" many of today’s leading consumer technology businesses. Reid joined the board of Endeavor Global in 2009. Today, he chairs the board's Endeavor Catalyst Committee. Here he gives his vision for the future of Endeavor.

When it comes to making meaningful change in the world, I firmly believe that entrepreneurship represents our best path forward. This is especially true of high-impact entrepreneurship. A single fastscaling company can create thousands of new jobs, attract talent and investment to a community, provide local government with a revenue base for a wide range of public services, and ultimately serve as the basis for an increasingly generative ecosystem of related companies and services. While Silicon Valley is the global leader in highimpact entrepreneurship, an increasing number of regions around the world have begun to master the art of the scale-up too. This trend is incredibly important—because broadly distributed high-impact entrepreneurship can rapidly accelerate our ability to increase prosperity, security, and human progress on a global scale. That's what makes Endeavor and the work it is doing so important. It is leading the way when it comes to supporting high-impact entrepreneurs outside of Right: Linda Rottenberg and Reid Hoffman discuss the power of entrepreneurship at the 2017 Endeavor Catalyst Investor Meeting.

because I believe that its impact can get even bigger. I was honored to be a founding investor in the Endeavor Catalyst fund, which compounds Endeavor’s impact not only by investing in Endeavor Entrepreneurs, but also by making the organization financially self-sustaining. I recently accepted the role of Chairman of the Endeavor Catalyst Committee, where I help oversee the fund’s investment process and ensure that each investment meets the stated criteria. As inspiring as it has been to watch Endeavor Catalyst grow so far, its impact is only just beginning. I look forward to all that it will accomplish moving forward, as it helps communities around the world achieve growth and prosperity through the development of their own entrepreneurial superheroes. Reid Hoffman is a partner at Greylock Partners and co-founder and executive chairman of LinkedIn.

Silicon Valley who are driving meaningful change— transforming their economies from the ground up. And that’s part of the reason I’m here on this journey with Endeavor. From the start, I knew I wanted to join Endeavor’s board. It wasn’t a matter of “if ” but “when.” Lucky for me, Linda persuasively decided it was “when” sooner rather than later. High-impact entrepreneurs, or “entrepreneurial superheroes” as I like to call them, do more than just start companies. They become role models for other entrepreneurs. They function as connectors and facilitators, and ultimately drive change across the communities in which they operate. These entrepreneurial superheroes strive to create a better society and world, and, most importantly, they show others what is possible too. That’s what builds ecosystems and creates jobs at scale. Endeavor Entrepreneurs have created 700,000+ jobs over the past 20 years. I signed onto Endeavor

STEP FOUR:

MULTIPLY Successful entrepreneurs reinvest in their communities and networks, multiplying their impact. Ninety percent of Endeavor Entrepreneurs go on to serve as angel investors, mentors, and active promoters of high-impact entrepreneurship. In 2011, Endeavor Insight began measuring the strength of entrepreneurship communities around the world by analyzing the connections between local entrepreneurs. While Wences Casares has had a huge impact on the technology sector in Buenos Aires, his influence is even more far-reaching. Now based in Palo Alto, California, Wences has become a role model, mentor and investor for many entrepreneurs in both those ecosystems and across the Endeavor network. With his success, Wences has also devoted himself to bridging the entrepreneurship and investment gap between Silicon Valley and growing ecosystems around the world. With initiatives such as Geeks On a Plane—a business travel and cultural exchange program that brings together Silicon Valley techies, international entrepreneurs, investors and bloggers— Wences continues to break down the barriers that he himself faced for the next generations of entrepreneurs.

REINVEST Endeavor has always been an organization of, by and for entrepreneurs. To support Endeavor’s goal of long-term sustainability, Endeavor Entrepreneurs are motivated to pay it forward, reinvesting their financial gains, expertise, and time. “Before I used to say, ‘I will help out if I have time.’ Now I say, ‘I will make time to help out.’” HAKAN BAŞ Founder & CEO, Lidyana Endeavor Turkey Entrepreneur

Endeavor Entrepreneurs are expected to contribute an annual membership fee to their local Endeavor office and, in the event of an acquisition, are asked to donate up to 2% of their personal cash out to the organization. Today, we proudly count dozens of Endeavor Entrepreneurs among our LPs in Endeavor Catalyst—investing to grow the next generation of highimpact entrepreneurs and completing the cycle.

HERVE CUVILIEZ CEO, Diwanee; Co-founder & Managing Partner, Leap Ventures Endeavor Lebanon Entrepreneur Selected into the Endeavor network in 2012, Diwanee is a media company that seeks to bring the topics Arab women might discuss amongst themselves to an online platform. A serial entrepreneur, Herve founded Diwanee with his wife Delphine Edde when they settled in Lebanon in 2007. The company grew rapidly, with three domains and lucrative advertising solutions, and was sold in 2014 to Webedia. Today Herve has turned his focus to helping other entrepreneurs succeed with Leap Ventures, his innovative tech focused venture capital firm operating in MENA and Europe that actively seeks to partner with entrepreneurs to help them scale rapidly. With Leap, he demonstrated a commitment to paying it forward to the next generation by investing in four Endeavor Entrepreneur-led companies: Keeward, Energy24, InMobiles and U-Turn. He is also the first Endeavor Lebanon Entrepreneur to contribute to Endeavor Catalyst, which Leap regularly co-invests with.

“We are here not just for ourselves, not just for our businesses. We are collectively creating the future for our children.
