Motivation Letter Dear EMSA members, It is a pleasure for me to present myself as candidate for the position of Secretary General for the term of 2013/2014.
Let me start by introducing myself; I am a 20-year-old medical student, was born in Zonguldak which is a small mining city in the north-west of Turkey, in the coastline of the Black Sea. I have completed my primary and secondary education in TED Zonguldak College which is a branch of TED Colleges, the oldest Turkish colleges in Turkey.
I started my medical education in Yeditepe University where I became a truly EMSAi. I joined EMSA in the very first days of my medical education and became the Medical Science Co-Coordinator in EMSA-Yeditepe. Organized and attended many projects and events in the local, national and international level. I was also a member of the ESD, prepared handbooks and did presentations of the projects during NCM and GA. In the end of a year full of projects and EMSA events, I attended EMSA TNT and became an EMSA Trainer. I was already fall in love with EMSA, especially during and after my first NCM, my enthusiasm and motivation increased even higher and decided to work more intensely in EMSA. I was elected for the position of Human Resources Officer of EMSA Europe. It was also the same time I transfer to another university, Samsun Ondokuz May覺s University. Samsun was not an EMSA FMO, I contacted my friends from Samsun who were also highly motivated for EMSA and willing to establish a local organization for EMSA.
This year was a pretty busy one for me and I did my best for EMSA also sacrificed a lot from my personal life. But I do not have any regrets and I am willing to contribute EMSA even more. I also encourage you to see my Annual Report 12/13 to see what I have done during the year as the HRO, my dedication and hard-work for EMSA. It also includes a short report of what I have done in EMSA-Samsun as the Founder President and LC.
My Experiences in EMSA It will be the beginning of my 3rd year in EMSA in September with a participation of 3 GAs, 2 NCMs and 2 TCEs of EMSA-Europe. In EMSA-Turkey, I have participated in 2 National Assemblies and the very first Local Coordinators’ and Enthusiasts’ Meeting. In the local level, I have organized and attended Cardiology Conference (keynote speaker: Murat Tuzcu, MD, Cleveland Clinic) with more than 200 participation, many TBHs, Movies&Medicine projects, Sign Language Courses, Medical Education Seminars, Public Health projects, Motivational Weekends, workshops and many more. Additionally, it was a great pleasure for me to be a part of organizing committees of GA 2012 and TCE 2013.
With all the projects and events I have organized, trainings I have delivered and attended, founding a new FMO and creating-building our team, I have improved myself in many different ways and gained many skills from the beginning of my EMSA career. I have learned and experienced a lot, both internal and external aspects of EMSA, board work and many more. Now, I believe I have the experience and enthusiasm to take a step further and serve EMSA as the Secretary General.
Finally, EMSA has changed me and my life completely which is I am very grateful with. I would like thank everyone who makes this organization a wonderful place. In the following pages, you may find my preliminary action plan and curriculum vitae. If you have any questions, doubt or suggestions, please feel free to contact me. Best Regards, Orkun Kopaç

Plan of Action EMSA represents and is the voice of the medical students in the whole Europe over 20 years. And the power of the organization comes directly from the dynamism and motivation of our members. I am planning to work together with the EEB and NCs on activating and motivating our in-active members, gaining more EMSAis. In order to spread the EMSA spirit to the whole Europe, one of my personal aims is to achieve gaining new FMOs primarily from countries have no EMSA member faculties. That is one of the hardest tasks; however I will apply the strategic plan have been created in the previous year and will develop an action plan with the help of EEB, Alumni and the NCs. Furthermore, there is a fact that the local boards and the active people change in a little while which also brings the dynamism and energy in return. I am also planning to maintain an intact communication with our LCs and constantly keep in touch with them.
One of the main tasks of the Secretary General according to the internal rules is to maintain the communication between the EEB and the LC, NCs. I am planning to improve the communication and maintain a more transparent environment for our Local and National Coordinators of the decisions and acts of the EEB. I will be constantly available at all times not only for the LCs and NCs but also all EMSA members, non-EMSAis, externals and of course for the EEB.
Bluemist is dynamic and has most of the updates from the EMSA European Board. I am planning to increase the reputation and the contribution to the Bluemist from the members and also from other social media platforms which will also be rewarding for the FMOs and I believe it will be motivating for local committees work to be published on an international communication platform.
During the year, I am planning to work closely with the HRO and transfer my experience and knowledge at all times. I will stay in contact with our Alumni and will continue working on the Alumni network. Also will keep my communication with experienced trainers from other associations and help HRO to improve the training system and the TCE in order to reach our full potential.
In the previous years we experienced many problems with the timing of the agenda and the GA itself. In order to decrease the loss of time and for the EEB to have a better sight especially on the quorum, I will take the record of GA secretariat carefully such as the voting rights and the proxies. In addition to that, organizing the EMSA archive is highly needed for the benefit of the EEB for daily usage and passing the knowledge to the future boards.
EMSA has many partner organizations the communication and relations has to be carried on. I will represent EMSA during my term at external partner organizations as well as try to establish new cooperation’s with other bodies.
To sum up, the SecGen is a highly important position needs dedication and hard work for the organization to run properly and reach our aims. As a Secretary General if I could be given the chance to run the position, I will not only work on the job description of the position but will also work on the weak points aiming to take our beloved association to further.
