Liaison Officer towards European Institutions 2013/2014

Cover Letter Introduction

Dear EMSAi, It is with great pleasure that I am presenting to you my candidature for the Liaison Officer towards European Institutions for the term of 2013/2014. My name is Bogdan Kovachev, and I am 21 years old. Currently I am in my third year of medical studies at the ss. Cyril and Methodius University of Skopje. I have also finished my high school education in Skopje that was based on the study of natural sciences. Even before starting University my love for science was obvious, and most of all I felt a special affinity towards medicine. That was the main reason I decided to go to medical school. From the start I had no problem staying on top of my studies, and that gave me the chance to be able to devote my free time on other activities that I enjoyed. My faculty was the first place I found out about EMSA. Since I liked what EMSA had to offer and because I like to get involved in other things besides my studies, I immediately became an active member in the local FMO. From the start I had the opportunity to visit most of the projects of EMSA. Not long after this, I started to get more involved in the organization and began working on the local level. Besides my involvement in EMSA, I am also active in the Leo Club Program. This is an international charity organization that aims to help the less fortunate people in society. Through this organization we have managed to do a few charity events for different causes on the local level.

My experience in EMSA My involvement in EMSA began when I first joined my local FMO and became an active member. From the start I visited most of the projects EMSA had to offer. Some of the most popular include TBH, M&M, SSC, workshops like the “How write and publish a scientific paper” and many others. Besides the projects, I also visited EMSA’s biggest event locally, the Summer School for Emergency Medicine. I began to work as an active participant on some of the projects, like the World Aids Day campaign of 2011, and written an article as part of the Pathway of Science team. Besides working on projects, I was also in the OC for the “Third Motivational Weekend – Not an ordinary weekend” of 2012, and the OC for the fourth Summer School of Emergency Medicine. As an EMSAi, I was also part of the collaboration .

with HAE – Macedonia for the organization of HAE Day in Skopje, an event aimed to raise awareness for rare hereditary diseases. I believe that doing external work is just as important as doing internal work for an organization. That is why I have promoted EMSA on events through partnerships with other organizations. At my local FMO I am currently the Medical Science and Research Director. At this position I have promoted the Medical e-club for Research to the students of my faculty. I have actively promoted Open Access, and organized an open forum named “Open Access: Where is Macedonia?”, visited by students, professors and representatives from our national library. And I also organized one SSC event on the topic of neonatal transposition of the main blood vessels. Besides experience on local level, I have visited the EMSA GA 2012 and the TNT/TCE 2013 where I had the opportunity to become an EMSA trainer. I was also part of the ESD science team for 2013.

To sum up Already being so actively involved in EMSA gives me great motivation to continue my work and to achieve even more. I believe that my experience so far has equipped me with great knowledge that I think is very important to have for the Liaison position. In the past years EMSA has made some great partnerships with very powerful organizations across Europe. I intend to maintain the strong relations already made with these organizations. Not only this, but I will actively look for other partnership and collaboration opportunities. By strengthening the old relations and establishing new ones, I plan to come to agreements with external organization which will benefit our EMSA members. With these collaborations I will also look for promotion opportunities for EMSA. By doing this work I believe that EMSA will grow to an even more stable and attractive organization for all medical students throughout Europe.

Sincerely yours,

Bogdan Kovachev
