A Citizen’s Guide to HOW TO SIGN UP: 1. Go to www.facebook.com to begin. In the top left corner, click Sign up. 2. Enter your name, email address or mobile phone number, new password, and birth date. 3. Facebook will then prompt you to look for friends through your email contacts. You can do this or skip this step. 4. If you’d like, add a profile photo. 5. You will receive a confirmation email. Click the link to complete your registration. 6. Signup is now complete! You will be given options for changing your privacy settings, adding photos, and finding friends. Explore the site to find people and organizations you know, and “Like” or send them a friend request to connect.
HOW TO POST: 1. Facebook makes it easy to post updates. At the top of the home page, you will see a blank text box asking “What’s on your mind?” You can post text and/or add images, videos, and links. Your friends can then “like,” comment on, or share your update. You can also create photo albums, which can be particularly useful if you want to share lots of photos from an event.
HOW TO INTERACT: 1. You can “like,” share, or comment on a friend’s update by clicking the Like, Comment, or Share under their post. You can also send direct private messages by clicking the “Message” button in the top right corner. 2. A popular Facebook feature, especially for organizations and businesses, is the Events feature. You can schedule an event by clicking “Create Event” in the left-hand column of the home page. You will be able to change privacy settings and features for the event separately from your own profile. Facebook Events is an easy way to publicize your event, collect RSVPs, and encourage others to spread the word.
