Outstanding Environmental Performance Staying positive can be hard in today's world, but here's one small way to work a little positivity in your daily routine. Each day, before you sit down to work, grab a small piece of paper and write a nice thought down about someone you work with. Later, when you see that person, work your positive thought into your conversation. It's a small way of making the world just a little nicer, and it just takes a minute to plan and a short time to deliver.

Resume Writing Advice for Total Beginners By Melinda Edwards Are you a total beginner in the complicated world of the job market? If you are, you may need some pieces of resume writing advice that should tell you the do's and don'ts of job hunting. At this critical point of job searching, there is a need for you to know and follow simple rules to avoid committing huge mistakes. A list of do's First of all, always remember that applications are usually screened by hiring managers or employers in less than a minute. As such, you need to maximize that time and opportunity to show your qualifications and competencies as a likely candidate for the job. Make sure you placed any possible contact information that allows people to reach you during business hours. Write your qualifications summary in a simple and straightforward way, including the job title you are applying for. Prepare a list of your jobs in reverse

chronological order. List them according to its importance to the reader such as title or position, name of employer, city/state address, and dates of employment. If you are targeting a different career path, you should put more emphasis on your transferable skills. Make your copy more meaningful by adding accomplishments, apart from enumerating your job responsibilities. If you can possibly quantify your accomplishments, that is, if you know how many customers or clients you served, or the figures of increased sales and profits, feel free to do so.

A list of don'ts

different kind of job.

One worn-out resume writing advice is the so-called "one-page rule." Don't be pressured by having to squeeze everything in one page. Why? If you clearly have more important things to say, it is appropriate to add another page, but avoid going beyond two pages as much as possible.

Personal pronouns such as I, my, and me are a no-no. Use concrete and consistent action verbs and adverbs in your work experience section and qualifications summary. Make your application accomplishmentsoriented, rather than duty-oriented. Duties automatically come with any job, but accomplishments are something that expose your work attitude and performance.

There is no need for you to state your height, weight, age, date of birth, place of birth, marital status, sex, ethnicity, or social security number. Also, you don't need to explain your reasons for leaving your previous job. It can possibly stir controversy.

To make your document reader-friendly, consider using bullets. Apply designs that are unique and distinct, rather than just copying templates and wizards available on the Internet.

There is also no need to include hobbies and other trivial stuff that are totally irrelevant to your target job. However, you may share these during interview conversations, if the situation seems appropriate.

Before you submit your application, carefully proofread it to ensure that there are no spelling, grammatical, and typographical errors.

Don't mention skills and job activities that you don't want to do anymore, especially if you are targeting a managerial position or a totally

As a final resume writing advice, hiring managers and employers want to know the truth about you, so don't ever tell lies. About the Author: Melinda Edwards works as a career consultant and has been invited in many forums and events on human resource management. She is also a time management expert who effectively performs her roles both as a career woman and a mother. Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/6884842

Informational Interviews: How to Get Them By Chris A. Perry

A stronger connection or link between you both can only help you get an interview.

Informational interviews have a number of things going against them. They sound boring, ineffective and hard to get. However, an informational interview can make or break your job search if used correctly. They work because they allow you to make a personal connection with a real human being who is typically in a much better position to endorse you and recommend you internally in his/her company. Here are some tips for effectively requesting an informational interview: 1. No phone calls, please. Emailing or sending a message via LinkedIn allows the recipient to choose to respond at

their own leisure and doesn't interrupt their schedule. 2. Don't forget about grammar. Always proofread everything you write to any professional. If possible, ask someone else you trust to read your outgoing messages to these professionals just for outside perspective. This is especially important if English is not your first language. 3. Include a catchy subject line. No matter how you know the person you want to contact, the subject of your message has to be personal and direct to catch their attention and move them to read it. Always include their name. If you don't know the person, consider

using "John – Question from a Student" or "John – Request for Informational Interview." If you do know them, I recommend "John – Request from Chris Perry" or if you don't know them personally, but went to the same college or have something in common, I recommend something along the lines of "John - Request from a W&M Student." 4. Briefly introduce yourself. In a short first paragraph, state your name, who you are and what you are doing. Remember, busy people don't have time to read long messages. Keep it short, sweet and to the point. 5. Promote your commonalities. If someone who knows them has referred

you, or you have something significant in common with the person (i.e. college, professional organization), make sure to include this. A stronger connection or link between you both can only help you get an interview. 6. Don't ask for a job, that's not their job! When you request an informational interview, DON'T ask them upfront for help to get you a job in their company. They already know you're interested in opportunities in their company or you wouldn't be contacting them. Ask them for the opportunity to speak about THEIR career, how THEY got involved in it, THEIR company and/or its culture. 7. NEVER send your resume. A resume >>>

looks presumptuous and inconsiderate and implies that you expect them to take time to look at it and more time to send it to the right person BEFORE they have even had a chance to "yes" or "no" to your request. 8. Make yourself contactable. Make sure to have an email/message signature with all possible methods to contact you listed. This way, you look professional and they can get in touch with you in whatever way they prefer. Here is an informational interview request example (to be sent to someone you don't currently know) that puts all of these tips to work:
