Home For The Holidays: A Family Tradition

Home for the Holidays is a family tradition in Emmetsburg with family and friends getting together after Thanksgiving kicking off the holiday season.

Breakfast With Santa

Home for the Holidays kicks off on Saturday, Nov. 30 with ‘Breakfast With Santa.’ Bring your children from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. to the Pizza Ranch, for the first opportunity to see Santa this holiday season. Kids will have the opportunity to eat breakfast with jolly old St. Nick as well as talking with Santa about what they want for Christmas, having their picture taken and receiving a gift bag from Santa. ‘Breakfast With Santa’ is sponsored by Pizza Ranch and The Reporter & The Democrat.

Stationary Parade

New this year is the Stationary Parade held on Friday, Dec. 6 from 5:45 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Entries will line up on 10th Street, on the north side of the Courthouse Square. Banners or signs will be next to floats identifying the participant. Kids can also pick up goodies at floats participating in the goody give out. By having a stationary parade, people will have a longer time to view the entries. Come out and stroll at your own pace. Also new this year is the lighting of the Christmas Tree in the Courthouse Square. This event is scheduled at 5:45 p.m.

Stop at the Chamber building from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and enjoy hot chocolate, provided by the Knights of Columbus with popcorn to eat, while being entertained by the sounds of Biblical Brass and Beyond as they play songs of the season. Kids meeting Santa will receive a bag of goodies provided by the Kiwanis and a horse drawn wagon, provided by Iowa Trust & Savings Bank and Palo Alto County Health System, will be available for rides. Students from Emmetsburg High School and members of Main Street Community Theater will be out carolling for your enjoyment. Also on Friday, Dec. 6 a ‘Shop Small’ event will have participating businesses holding open houses and a ‘ Gingerbread Walk.’ Students will be decorating gingerbread cutouts for display in participating businesses. With the cutouts, there will be a piece of paper with the page of a story on it. There will be one page of the story with every cutout. The ‘Gingerbread Walk’ will continue until after Christmas. This is sure to be an evening of fun firsts in the company of family, friends, and neighbors.

Gifts You Never Outgrow Young or old, the gift of money is always a hit. Instead of giving cash, give that hard-to-by-for person Chamber bucks. Chamber Bucks make great gifts and great incentives to

Shop Local First. they are great for giveaways and for employee bonuses. Put them in gift baskets or use them for stocking stuffers. Chamber bucks support shopping locally, which supports the local economy and Chamber members. Chamber Bucks are available year round and are great for other holidays and events also. The expiration date on Chamber Bucks is one year from the date of purchase, giving anyone more time to use them. Another great gift idea that can be found at the Chamber of Commerce and Welcome Center are books written by local authors. These books are found in the Welcome Center and range from $2.50 to $15.00. Titles carried at the Welcome Center are Senior Things by Dave Carpenter, History of Palo Alto County by Dwight McCarty, Middle Ground by Tom Montag and the House on Godwit by Robin Mary Allen. Be sure to ‘Look Local First and Shop Small’ this holiday season.

We have something for everyone on your Christmas List!

Location: *VFW* Date: Sat. Dec. 7 Time: 9am-12pm Santa’s Secret Shop is a FUN opportunity for kids to shop for their loved ones for Christmas. We have gifts available for all ages as well as for pets! Most gifts range from $3-$6 with a few gifts up to $8.

Be sure to bring a camera! Santa will be there!
