I am a fourth-year student at The Pennsylvania State University studying architecture. Architecture allows me to combine my passion and interests. When I’m not busy working in studio, I find pleasure in digital photography, travelling to other countries and learning about different cultures. My Intention was to create an experience in which my design celebrates the monuement.

The beautiful and open landscape becomes a space in which an individual can experience the site. My design will take you on a journey. From the time, you pass through the gateway, it takes you around this ring that isn’t competely closed, but gives off that impression. This is all happens through an architectural element, the lighweight roof. This roof carries an individual around, to create an inside-outside element, continuity between interior and exterior, which allows them to see the megalith from multiple angles. It makes the most of this amazing location, by creating a central inner space that consists of an unrestricted and uncontained naturalness, into panoramic views that my structure combined with the monument establishes a space of memory. As a result, my building reframes and recontextualize the site by respecting and connecting the surrounding area.

This project was developed by looking at the layers of the existing Neue Gallery façade on 5th Avenue. On this façade there are layers that creates a stark geometry.This project was also inspired by two Josef Hoffman brooches that are exhibited in the Neue. Similar to the existing Neue façade, these brooches also have a stark geometry with jewels set into a rectilinear frame. In my design I brought together these aspects to create layers that connect the Neue Gallery and Central park together.These frames become layers of walls based upon a gridded formal system organizing the plans of the Neue Gallery. Parallel to Central Park. The walls frame a direct view to the park and in the opposite direction connect spatially to the Neue Gallery building floor to floor.

The Hangout/Public area in this design allows artists and vistors to interact both physically and visually as they would when there walking the streets of Harlem. The Public area acts as the main circulation, which connects the vistors to the artists and the new media art used in the building. That as one move upward, the Hangout/Public Area spreads into the program areas that it helps strengthen the connection of the spaces and the movement through the spaces.

It was through my research of the Cultural development, I was able to use it has a driving force in my project. by using the site has a place the community of Harlem can interact and learn from each other.

Most importantly, having an interactive facade that opens up the entrance to the public can be an eye catcher when people are across the street or walking towards the street.

The 2019-2020 Penn State Solar Decathlon team patnered with Centre County Housing and Land Trust (CCHLT) in order to design cost-effective, community oriented net-zero homes. The team focused heavily on understanding the basis of sustainability as it morphs at different scales. Our strategy includes three scales of design: the home, the neighborhood, and the community scale. Which is centered around a scalable system that has the ability to evolve existing and future construction toward reaching the goal of net zero. In scaling up the size and type of building, aspects of finances, materials, labor, and logistics must be scaled up, too. It is vital for designers, engineers, and planners to not only scale up their context of thinking, but to also be aware of how those spaces in between are addressed. The goal of using this scalable system is to show that wide-scale net zero can be achieved by scaling up the steps that one would take to achieve net zero in a single home.

Our partnership with CCHLT offers us the perfect opportunity to the goals. In working closely with CCHLT, whosegoal is to strengthen communities through the development and stewardship of permanently, affordable homes for people of low to moderate income, we have the ability to design an entire net-zero ecosystem which can create an impact far beyond that of a single home.

In a home, the kitchen and living room are where the whole family can gather to share a meal, watch a movie, or just share a conversation. Just as a family is grounded in the time it spends together, the home should foster these moments in the shared spaces and be built accordingly.

Our ideas for this have centered around a scalable system that has the ability to evolve existing and future construction toward reaching the goal of net zero. It all begins with achieving a single, net zero-energy ready home. Then, the design needs to evolve to allow for the wide-scale reproduction of the home such that it can be constructed and net zero regardless of its orientation, site, family size, etc. Afterwards, the design must be scaled beyond a single home. Finally, the design must reach its peak by evolving to incorporate all facets of sustainability. The house and the neighborhood, and how they interact with one another should move beyond energy savings to address aspects of social, cultural, and emotional sustainability within the community design.

The Pod A neighborhood is characterized by its neighbors.

Two homes share a front space where they may have a shared pollinator garden. Four homes align to frame a larger gathering space where vegetables can flourish and the young children can play, free from any streets or cars. Parents from all four houses can easily see into the garden.

The Neighborhood Because a neighborhood is made of many families, providing a space where they can all connect helps aquaint the ones who might otherwise not see each other often. We have included a park as a space for all members of the community to gather.

Strategy used: a) Analyze the existing problems in architecture: overpopulation b) Propose a way to connect overpopualtion through stacking on the human body = the shoulders c) Then using the shoulders create a design to represent represents the eight stages of life through layers by folding Material: Paper - used to represent the eight stages of life The main idea was create a wearable architecture that could summarize the way of life of people during the time the movie, The Fifth Element took place. A time of overpopulation, pollution, etc. The whole project was based on the layers of life poem by Stanley Kunitz, “Live in the layers, not on the litter,” through the effect of stacking; creating a system that works.

Over the last couple years, I have fallen in love with photography, that it has become my hobby. What I love most abouut photography is the images that are taken in black & white.

For me, Black & White photography captures the light the way I want to better and it gives off a more raw feeling when you look at them. All these pictures range from trips to New York City to my hometown Lagos, Nigeria.
