From 7 April

Longthorpe Tower

Visit Longthorpe Tower There’s good news for visitors to the historic Longthorpe Tower in Peterborough, as from 7 April it will be open every weekend until 31 October. English Heritage is handing over the day-to-day running of this 14th century property to Vivacity, Peterborough’s culture and leisure trust, who plan to increase the current opening hours and offer guided tours on the first Saturday of every month. Under the new management agreement, English Heritage will still be responsible for maintaining the property and it will remain under its guardianship, however, Vivacity will be in charge of opening and managing the site. Longthorpe Tower is a surviving part of a Medieval fortified 10

Manor House, and contains the finest set of Medieval wall paintings in a domestic setting anywhere in Western Europe. Vivacity’s Heritage Service is keen to hear from volunteers of all ages, who may want to get involved in the creation of new displays, guided tours and events at Longthorpe Tower. If you would like to know more about these interesting volunteering opportunities please call 01733 864775, or email volunteering@ For more information about Longthorpe Tower, which was once Peterborough’s best kept historical secret, but will now be open regularly for the public to appreciate, visit
