Meet The Gruffalo There will be great excitement and delight amongst youngsters in Peterborough at the news that they can meet one of the most popular of all children’s characters – The Gruffalo. The original book by playwright Julia Donaldson, illustrated by Axel Scheffler, has sold over 10.5 million copies since it was first printed in 1999. The Gruffalo has since won several prizes for children’s literature and has been a stage hit from the West End, via Broadway, to Peterborough’s own Key Theatre. Now The Gruffalo will be at the centre of a half-term special event at selected libraries. The story of what happens when

a quick-thinking mouse comes face-to-face with an owl, a snake and a hungry Gruffalo is sure to enchant all over again. And the really big news is that youngsters can visit selected city libraries and meet the Gruffalo himself. Youngsters will love hearing this wonderful story again and taking part in our Gruffalo events below: Friday, 17 February: Bretton Library (10-11am); Dogsthorpe Library (12-1pm); Werrington Library (2-3pm) Saturday 18 February: Orton Library (10-11am); Hampton Library (11.30am-12.30pm); Central Library (2-3pm) FREE

Dr Seuss Extravaganza He was an American writer, poet and cartoonist, but Theodor Seuss Geisel became most famous for the superb children’s books he wrote as Dr Seuss. Dr Seuss was born on March 2, 1904 and died in 1991. Now young fans can join in celebrating Dr Seuss’s birthday and World Book Day at a series of events at libraries across Peterborough. And Dr Seuss is well worth celebrating. He wrote 46 children’s books which have stood the test of time and delighted generations of young readers. At the library events, children will

enjoy stories, crafts and games from the magical world of The Cat In A Hat, Horton the Elephant and The Grinch Who Stole Christmas. Come along and have a Seuss-errific time!
