Tuesday 5th of March Street Music Day (all day, various) To celebrate the opening of the Student Festival, musicians will be playing on various locations around campus throughout the day including the library, Elphinstone lawn and the Taylor court. Street Music Day is the event which unites all who speak the world’s most universal language - the language of music. Musicians engage into the fest of free creation and socialising between musicians and the public! Around the World in Many Faiths (12-4pm, Butchart Main Hall) This event will feature representatives from a variety of the faith groups and societies on campus and is a great opportunity to learn more about what they offer. There will be FREE vegetarian curry with rice for everyone attending. Carbon Reduction on Campus – An Interactive Workshop (1-3pm, Climate Change Office, Butchart) This workshop is for students who want to find out more about carbon reduction on campus and in the home. We will show you how the university monitors energy consumption and you will get an insider’s look at photovoltaics and rain water harvesting on campus. There will be plenty of discussion about sustainability on campus, and we will kit you out with some fantastic tools for reducing your energy bills. Come along and share your ideas for how to make Aberdeen a greener campus!

Photography Exhibition and Grand Opening of Student Festival (5.45pm Butchart Main Hall) Come along to the official grand opening of the Student Festival on Tuesday evening at Butchart. The evening will commence with a fire display with performers from our Juggling Society and then carry on to a drinks reception and photography exhibition from the Photography Society in the main hall of Butchart. International Food Festival (7pm, Butchart Main Hall) After the drinks reception and photography exhibition the evening will lead onto the International Food Festival which will feature a wide variety of food and tasty treats from our cultural societies including Nordic, Caribbean, Chinese, Hispanic and even a bit of Whisky! All free of charge. 24 Hour Play (7pm, Butchart Small Hall) On Tuesday night the curtain goes up – but what will be on stage? Come and find out what happens when a group of arts societies are locked in Butchart and given just 24 hours to write, rehearse, and perform six (very) short plays. Come and experience the raw talent of some of the best performers, writers, and production teams on campus, in a unique event on the University performing arts scene. Or it could all go horribly wrong. Whatever happens, you won’t want to miss it.

Student Festival Film Screening: Drive (2011) (8pm, MacRobert Lecture Theatre) Come along to a free film screening of Drive (2011). “A mysterious Hollywood stuntman, mechanic and getaway driver lands himself in trouble when he helps out his neighbour.” Cast: Ryan Gosling, Carey Mulligan, Bryan Cranston. FREE entry! Student Festival Film Screening: Pan’s Labyrinth (2006) (10pm, MacRobert Lecture Theatre) Come along to a free film screening of Pan’s Labyrinth (2006). “In the fascist Spain of 1944, the bookish young stepdaughter of a sadistic army officer escapes into an eerie but captivating fantasy world.” Cast: Ivana Baquero, Ariadna Gil, Sergi López. FREE entry!

Wednesday 6th of March War over Natural Resources – One Day Conference (9am-5pm, Lecture Theatre, Cruickshank Building. 6pm Formal Whisky Tasting Session) In collaboration with the Politics and International Relations Society the Environment Office presents a one day conference aimed at exploring the impacts of natural disasters, climate change and the irresponsible way societies around the World have been exploiting the environment. We see how these issues interfere with international affairs and the politics of global resource management as well as the dynamics of the fight for natural resources ultimately a comfortable life surrounding. AU Zombie Apocalypse (1-3pm: registration 12pm Butchart Car Park) Aberdeen University campus has been infested by Zombies! You must make it across the university campus to various checkpoints, without being caught by the hordes of ravenous zombies hungry for human flesh! If a zombie catches you, you will be marked as bitten. At your next checkpoint, our analysts will determine whether or not you have been infected! If so, you will become one of the zombies, catching any remaining survivors! If not, you will be allowed to continue with your mission to survive! Annie is (once again) lying on the floor lifeless: try Vinnie Jones hands only CPR (you can also lean in for the kiss if you like), or have a go at saving Charlie from choking and win a sweetie as reward! If you’re successful, that is... Also find out about the Red Cross and that they aren’t just about first aid. There is a lot more to it... Our enthusiastic volunteers will be on hand to answer any questions. Find us in the main hall in Butchart, you can’t miss the British Red Cross posters. An Evening of Jazz and Swing (6pm-8pm, Butchart Main Hall) Get in the mood this Student Festival Wednesday! Come along for an evening of Jazz with the Aberdeen University Big Band and Swing Dance Society!

We will be playing ‘Fly me to the Moon’, ‘In the Mood’, ‘Moonlight Serenade’ and many more. Free Entry Bookends Inter-Volunteering Night (6-9pm, BookEnds, Butchart Gallery)Are you interested in volunteering? Do you want to meet people from some of the various voluntary opportunties available on campus? Do you volunteer already and want to find out about the other options available? If the answer to any of these questions is YES, BookEnds invites you to our inter-volunteering night. Light refreshments will be provided. Student Festival Talent Show (7.30pm-9pm, The Garage/Campus Aberdeen) This talent show will be like no other! In a competition between Aberdeen University and Aberdeen College, acts will slash it out until only one winner remains! All proceeds go to the Charities Campaign. Performing Arts Variety Show (7.30pm, Tiger Tiger) For one night, all the performing art societies are getting together to celebrate and share their passion for performing! Come along to TigerTiger and get ready for an entertaining night with Comedy, Dance, Improvised Theatre, Centre Stage, Juggling and many more societies! Doors open at 7:30pm, show starts at 8pm. Entry fee only £3, tickets are available at the door. All proceeds will go towards a new performing arts venue for the students of Aberdeen.

Student Festival Film Screening: Stand by Me (1986) (8pm, MacRobert Lecture Theatre) Come along to a free film screening of Stand by Me (1986). “After the death of a friend, a writer recounts a boyhood journey to find the body of a missing boy.” Cast: Wil Wheaton, River Phoenix, Corey Feldman. Student Festival Film Screening: OldBoy (2003) (10pm, MacRobert Lecture Theatre) Come along to a free film screening of OldBoy (2003). “After being kidnapped and imprisoned for 15 years, Oh Dae-Su is released, only to find that he must find his captor in 5 days.” Cast: Min-sik Choi, Ji-tae Yu, Hye-jeong Kang. FREE entry!

Thursday 7th of March Marrow Save a life Session (10am-4pm, MacRobert 252)Could you save a life? This is your chance! We will be running a sign up session for the Anthony Nolan bone marrow register. Come along, fill out a form, speak to one of our counsellors and spit in a tube! Healthy Eating “Bake Sale” (10am-2pm, Butchart Main Hall) Come along to our healthy eating “bake sale” where you’ll be able to tuck into a variety of halthy goodies including smoothies, fruit juices, fruit pots and much more!

Green Driving Competition (9am-4pm, Butchart Main Hall) Come along to try out the Energy Saving Trust’s fantastic eco driving simulator, let loose, learn tips on how to drive more economically and win some exciting prizes. ‘Maria Full of Grace’ & The Drug Trade in Latin America Talk & Film Screening with Dr Mervyn Bain (1:45pm, MacRobert 051) We are delighted to have Dr Mervyn Bain, the Head of the Politics & IR department at the University of Aberdeen, as a guest lecturer for this event. He will be talking about the drug trade in Latin America and its consequences for the region. His 20-minute presentation will be followed by a film screening of ‘Maria Full of Grace’, a compelling drama on young Colombian women working as drug mules. We will also be holding a short discussion on the movie afterwards. This promises to be a highly interesting and engaging event not only for social science students but anyone interested in global issues! Snacks & drinks will be provided. FREE Open air Zumba class (3pm, King’s Lawn) Get moving with the Dance Society! Join us outside on King`s Lawn for an hour of FREE Zumba class with great music at 3pm! (Location may change based on weather conditions).

Fair trade Cookery Session (4-5pm, Hillhead Halls of Residence) Join us to make a selection of Fairtrade cakes and treats! All the ingredients are provided by us. Just turn up and get involved in this fun and informal session. At the end we will enjoy eating all the amazing things we have made! Student Festival Grand Finale: King’s Awards Ball (7pm, Hilton Treetops Hotel) The grand finale of the Student Festival will celebrate all the great work that our societies and student activities have done in the past year. The evening will feature the Society Awards, as well as the King’s and Student Association Awards. To get your ticket log onto www.ausa.org.uk/ kingsawardsball before 12 noon Friday 1st March. Tickers are £32 which includes arrival drink, 3 course meal, wine on table, ceilidh and many more surprises on the night!
