Overview Prehospital Pediatric Education Symposium is designed to create an educational experience that will empower EMS and ED personnel to provide the highest quality emergency care to their pediatric patients.

Who Should Attend Paramedics, EMT’s, Nurses, Physicians, Physicians Assistants and other allied health professionals that are involved in providing pediatric emergency medical care.

Program Objectives

Following the completion of the conference, participants will be able to: ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Explain the concept of color-coding for pediatric emergency care. Explain/discuss the benefits of using a color coding system to determine pediatric medication doses. Explain/discuss the benefits of using a color coding system to determine the proper signing for pediatric airway adjuncts. Explain the benefits of using a color coding system versus a weight based system in the pediatric patient. Discuss the electronic innovations currently available to enhance color-coding for pediatric emergency care. Discuss the initial management and interventions for the pediatric patient with congenital heart disease. Discuss the management and interventions for the pediatric patient with a toxicological emergency. Discuss the role of the Poison Control Center in the management of the pediatric patient with a toxicological emergency. Explain the clinical definition of child abuse. Discuss the management and interventions for the pediatric patient who has been the victim of child abuse. Discuss the legal issues that affect the management and interventions for the pediatric patient who has been the victim of child abuse. Discuss the management and interventions for the pediatric seizure patient. Discuss the management and interventions for the pediatric trauma patient. Discuss the management and interventions for the pediatric patient for exposure to WMD. Discuss the concepts of Death and Dying as it relates to the pediatric patient and their family Discuss the hospice approach to death and dying. Discuss the management and interventions for the pediatric patient with Diabetic Keto Acidosis (DKA). Discuss the initial management and interventions for the neonatal pediatric patient. Discuss the pediatric triage process and its use in both the prehospital and hospital settings.

Continuing Education Credit

Paramedics and EMTs - This educational activity is approved by the Emergency Medicine Learning & Resource Center (EMLRC), an organization accredited by the Continuing Education Coordinating Board for Emergency Medical Services (CECBEMS )and the Florida Department of Health, Bureau of EMS, for up to 13 credit hours. Participants that require approval other than CECBEMS should consult their local Medical Director or State EMS Office. You are participating in a continuing education program that has received CECBEMS approval for continuing education credit. Physicians - The Emergency Medicine Learning & Resource Center (EMLRC) is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to sponsor continuing medical education for physicians. The Emergency Medicine Learning & Resource Center designates this continuing medical education activity for up to 13 credit hours in Category 1 of the Physician’s Recognition Award of the American Medical Association. Each Physician should claim only those hours of credit that he/she actually spends in the educational activity. Application has been made to the American College of Emergency Physicians for up to 13 hours of ACEP Category 1 credit. Application has been made to the American Osteopathic Association for up to 13 hours of Category 2 credit. Nurses - Up to 13 nursing contact hours will be provided by the Emergency Medicine Learning & Resource Center (EMLRC).
