One night, the Pilla family was enjoying their Wednesday night dinner.

Dad was reading the newspaper and noticed an ad for

“DACHSHUNDS FOR SALE”

in a nearby town. DAILY NEWS

The Pilla’s had always wanted a puppy, so they hopped in the car and headed to the breeder’s house.

When the Pilla family arrived, there were four rowdy weenies running around the main

room. They were all black with short hair.

One even peed on Mom’s purse!

Little did they know, there was another little weenie, laying in the corner of the room while his siblings were still causing chaos. He had short brown hair and the cutest little face that made you just fall in love and want to take him home...so they did!

The Pilla’s named him...

Skipper was always an active dog. Ever since the day the Pilla’s brought him home, they allowed him to jump down the stairs and off furniture.

The years went by, and Skipper turned three!

That following summer, the Pilla family

went

camping on family vacation.

On vacation, Skipper wasn’t being himself. He appeared to be shivering in pain and refused to move from his bed.

Skipper wasn’t getting

better, so Mom and Dad took him to the vet where he was diagnosed

with IVDD, a common spine disease among

dachshunds.

The vet recommended a very

expensive surgery

to save Skipper. The Pilla’s agreed to the surgery, and it was a success!

Skipper’s TO DO: take medicine crate rest (6-8 wk) PT (after 1 year)

After surgery, the vet wrote up a strict regimen for Skipper to follow for the coming months. He had to take pain medicine everyday and was on crate rest for several weeks. They tried to rehab him after a year, but it was not successful.

One day, Skipper received a very

special package in the mail.

MAIL

A pair of

wheels!

The wheels will become

Skipper’s back legs.

They’ll give him a

second chance at life, even

allowing him to compete in

wiener dog races.

Dad even named an ice cream truck after him!
