Design/Construction Development

This Residential Project features a multi story concrete structure through which a steel framed opening stretches through to allow light, air, open and green space. The development of the project entailed research into the connections of such materials, drawn details of such connections, HVAC and cost analysis if such a project were to be realized.

Using the concept of “ordinary building, ordinary site, as a generator to an extraordinary architecture, a simple rectalinear building becomes a complex internal puzzle. Tying together four distinct characters and their interactions together, these orthagonal drawings are to depict the different spatial needs, similarities, and differences amongst the house in which these characters reside.

Y-House

Saitama, Japan Summer 2012 Drawings for Publication for IDEA Office

These drawings of the Y-House, constructed in Saitama, Japan in 2008,were generated for book publishing. When the house was initially designed, the Y-House was conceived with the idea that the “most is made with the least.” This “existense minimum” concept also rang true to these drawings, capturing to clean, simple lines of three level, 1,000 sq. ft. single family home. Take the Edge Off Chicago, Illinois Spring 2013 Undergraduate Thesis Project

As a spatial examination of Mies’ un-built convention center in Chicago, the convention center typology is understood as a distinct spatial condition in which infinitely inhabitable space is achieved by a large open span of space. Mies’ convention center was realized by a thick spaceframe roof that allowed for an uninterrupted plan. This thesis re-imagines the typology by applying the idea of thick roof to generate a thick envelope.

Utilizing a dense framework as a means of generating space, the convention center typology is altered to be variable in plan like Mies’ and also in section, by using the thickness of the envelope as a means of achieving space.

Take the Edge Off Chicago, Illinois Spring 2013 Undergraduate Thesis Project This new social arrangement diminishes the separation from the typically disconnected spaces and offers a deviation from the typology within a scaffold framework that ties the spaces together.
