Voorwoord Deze geïntegreerde proef werd gemaakt in het kader van de middelbare opleiding Marketing en ondernemen, aan het Sint-Jozefsinstituut Handel, Toerisme en IT te Brugge. De taken die we kregen voor dit eindwerk hebben betrekking op de minionderneming. Ook startte ik een eigen bedrijfje op, namelijk Newness Records. De minionderneming die ik moest gebruiken voor de taken die hiermee te maken hadden heet Up’Size. Wij verkopen zaadjes van kruiden en groenten met als doel om meer family time in te lassen bij gezinnen en mee te helpen aan een beter milieu. Ik ben gestart als administratief assistent maar ik ben later doorgegroeid tot commercieel directeur. Voor mijn eigen businessidee heb ik mijn droom gevolgd en ben ik beginnen werken rond een bedrijf dat zich zou concentreren op startende artiesten die een eigen toets geven aan hun muziek. Ook wil ik andere muzikanten de kans geven om hun een grotere fanbase te krijgen aan de hand van een promotienetwerk. Bij het maken van deze opdracht kreeg ik hulp van de heer Devriendt omtrent het structureren van het document. Ik wil ook de heren P. Verkeyn en C. Inleiding Het onderwerp van mijn geïntegreerde proef bestaat uit 2 delen, de taken omtrent de minionderneming Up’ size en over mijn eigen fictief bedrijfje. Ook werd de GIP verdeeld in 5 vakken: Nederlands, Frans, Engels, Duits en informatica. In het kader van het vak Nederlands kreeg ik de taak om een brief te sturen naar alle aandeelhouders. Deze moest volledig correct volgens de NBN-normen. Ik kreeg ook de opdracht om een cv en sollicitatiebrief op te stellen. Als aanvullende taak kwam er ook een sollicitatiefilmpje bij kijken. Net zoals in het echte bedrijfsleven moest iedereen hierna op sollicitatiegesprek. Deze taken waren in het kader van de minionderneming. Ik solliciteerde voor een andere functie. Hierdoor ben ik commercieel directeur geworden. Voor het vak Engels werd ons gevraagd om een quick pitch op te stellen over ons eigen businessidee, bij mij gaat deze opdracht over een muzieklabel en een promotienetwerk voor artiesten. Ik maakte voor dit vak ook een cv/sollicitatiebrief, het aanvullende sollicitatiefilmpje bevatte een deel dat in het Engels werd gesproken. Op het sollicitatiegesprek werden er een paar vragen in het Engels gesteld. In het tweede semester werd mijn businessidee verder uitgewerkt. Ik maakte namelijk een volledig businessplan op. Eén van de belangrijkste vakken in de GIP is informatica. Voor dit vak kreeg ik de taak om de aandeelhoudersbrief met de aangeleerde technieken te maken. Hierbij kwam er nog een extra opdracht die bestond uit het maken van een bijlage waarop de aandeelhouders hun inloggegevens konden terugvinden. Er werden ook punten gegeven op alle taken die deel uitmaakten van de sollicitatie, als extra kwam er ook nog een “mytaggle” bij, dit is een gratis app op het internet waar je iets meer over jezelf kunt vertellen op een originele manier. In het kader van het vak Frans kreeg ik de opdracht om een promotiefilmpje te maken over een product in de minionderneming, bij mij ging dit over de kruidenpot met schaar. Hierbij wou ik de focus leggen op hoe gemakkelijk het is om zelf zaden te kweken en hoe weinig tijd het inneemt. Ook voor Frans werd een cv gevraagd en moest ik op sollicitatiegesprek komen. In economie kreeg ik ook een paar opdrachten, zo maakte ik een quick pitch over mijn eigen businessidee (zelfde als in Engels). Maar met de aanvulling van alle zaken die nodig zijn om een onderneming op te starten, zoals een btw-nummer, welke stappen er moeten genomen worden… Later werd er gevraagd om een businessplan op te stellen over de quick pitch. Het laatste vak dat betrokken is met de GIP is Duits, hiervoor werd er gevraagd om dezelfde cv als in Nederlands, Frans en Engels te vertalen naar het Duits. Ook hiervoor ging ik op sollicitatiegesprek. Een andere taak was om een brief te schrijven naar de leverancier van de minionderneming. Deze brief kon verschillende redenen hebben zoals het aanvragen van een offerte, een bestelling doorgeven, een catalogus vragen,… Hierbij koos ik voor het aan te vragen van een offerte.

6.1 Online aankoop aandeel en registratie aandeelhoudersvergadering Om een aandeel aan te kopen bij Up’Size en u vervolgens te registreren voor de aandeelhoudersvergadering moet u naar de site http://mini.jozefienen.be gaan. Hier klikt u links op het logo van Up’Size. Hierdoor zal u verder worden geleid naar de volgende stap.

Als u op het logo hebt geklikt zal u op dit scherm terechtkomen. Hier dient u eerst uw keuze te maken van welke minionderneming u een aandeel wilt kopen. Als u de keuze gemaakt hebt mag u niet vergeten de andere gegevens ook in te vullen. Let er zeker op dat u alleen hoofdletters gebruikt waar nodig.

Als u al uw gegevens hebt ingevuld net als in de foto hiernaast bent u bijna officieel een aandeelhouder van de gekozen minionderneming. Vergeet niet op verstuur je gegevens te klikken anders krijgen wij uw gegevens niet en bent u geen aandeelhouder.

12 6.2 Uitnodiging aandeelhoudersvergadering Eens de aandeelhouders geregistreerd waren konden we aan de slag om uitnodigingen te sturen naar hun. Omdat een gepersonaliseerde brief veel beter overkomt dan een normale bedrijfsbrief kozen we ervoor om de aandeelhouders aan te spreken met hun naam, dit deden we aan de hand van Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel en hun toepassing verzendlijsten. De brief bevatte ook een QRcode die leidde naar http://mini.jozefienen.be , dit was omdat iedereen nog eens zijn gegevens moest bekijken zodat er zeker geen misverstanden konden onststaan. Elke aandeelhouder kreeg ook zijn eigen aandeelhouderskaart toegestuurd. Op deze kaart staat bijvoorbeeld hun naam maar ook een barcode die moest worden gescand bij het aankomen op de aandeelhoudersvergadering. In bijlage 1 vindt u deze gepersonaliseerde brief en 4 gepersonaliseerde aandeelhouderskaarten terug.

6.3 Starting up your own business This task was about our own business idea. We had to write a quick pitch about this company in a creative way. I wrote this quick pitch about my dream company named Newness Record, we will be an active player on the music market. We also had to go to an enterprise counter to ask some questions about what steps we need to take and how much it will cost to start up a company and make a well-structured document with this information. You can find the document in supplement 2.

14 6.5 Sollicitatiebrief en CV Om ons voor te bereiden op het bedrijfsleven moest ik ook een cv maken en een sollicitatiebrief schrijven. Dit gebeurde in meerdere talen, zo moest ik een cv maken in het Nederlands, Frans, Engels en Duits. In het Nederlands en Engels was er ook een bijhorende sollicitatiebrief. U kunt al deze documenten terugvinden in bijlage 3, 4 en 5. Hiernaast ziet u al een deel van hoe mijn cv er uit ziet. Dit is de Nederlandse versie. 6.6 Sollicitatiegesprek Op 16 januari moest ik op sollicitatiegesprek komen om te solliciteren voor de functie van administratief assistent in de minionderneming. Er waren 4 leerkrachten aanwezig die mij beoordeelden, mevrouw Deparcq, mevrouw Roelandt, mevrouw De Muynck en mevrouw Van Hecke. Ik heb dan wel gesolliciteerd voor de functie van administratief assistent maar de mentor van mijn minionderneming, mevrouw Roelandt, vond dat de functie van commercieel directeur beter bij mij paste.

6.8 Business plan For English and economics I had to write a business plan about my own business idea. I wrote this about my dream company named, Newness Records. This is a business that focusses on the music market with a promotional service for beginning and professional artists. 16 2 Elevator pitch Newness records is a music label that is focusing on helping unknown artists on their way to the top. We want to help them to find their way to parties, gigs and a huge fan base. Newness Records

The name Newness records, comes from the will of the people for new things and our continuous will for innovation and refreshing ideas. We want new music and new ideas. We use the abbreviation NSR because it is more attractive for a logo. The N comes from Newness the S comes from the double S at the end of newness and the R from Records. My idea for the business came to my mind since I saw that a lot of artists have trouble to reach a lot of listeners for their music. This is because they don’t use the right way to promote their music or because they don’t have the time for it. I can help them with this big problem by promoting their music for them at a cheap price. There are a lot of artists who pay for their promotion but they pay way too much. If I place my price lower than the competition does I will have a lot of clients. I can give my clients extra services like the different and new ways of promoting their music. Since I’m always looking for new ways to promote my own music and to grow my network I was able to gather some great experience and knowledge in this sector. I came to a point that I want to use this experience to chase my dream, I want to build up my own successful music label and promotion network. A label where artists can reach the top of their own music genre, where we focus on new music, where we are one family and where we can work together. I don’t want to take a slow start to achieve my goals because the faster I reach the top of the music industry, the better. Because this guarantees a better profit and less marketing efforts because once you are big, the company and the artists will promote itself just by releasing good music. After one year I want to make a profit of a little bit more then € 15 000,00. This would be very nice because I want to use that money to celebrate our one year anniversary with a public party. This is another way of promotion we can use and this can also make some nice profit. Profit is a nice thing but the most important thing for me is to help artists to build up their fan base and to play at a lot of parties and gigs. I hope that my pitch gave you a view in my enterprise and in our future goals. 3 Products and service These ideas came to my mind since I’m spending a lot of time with music production and promoting my own music. Since I study economics I found a way to improve some of the ways I already used or saw to promote my own my music.

3.1 Music/ artist promotion I will offer artists a promotion in different ways. They will be able to pick between the way the audience will receive it. 3.1.1 Soundcloud promotion This is definitely one of the biggest music platforms for starters and very easy to help people with promoting their music. The service will work like this. People will reach out to me for a repost on their music, when they do this they will get a link to a site where they can make a choice between different offers. The amount off followers on the soundcloud channel that I own will define the amount they need to pay. For example: If they want to be reposted to 10 000 followers they will need to pay €5,00. On a bigger channel with around 80 000 followers they will need to pay €50,00. 3.1.2 Youtube promotion This is a much harder way to promote yourself because a lot of people want to apply it, leading to longer waiting queues and making it more expensive. But I found a solution for that. If I make a big network I will receive a lot of mails for people who want to get promoted. So for every big music genre I will make a different youtube channel. This will cost a bit more than a soundcloud promotion since you get more attention. 3.1.3 Social media promotion This is something that I personally have never seen before but I think you can definitely get a bigger fan base with this kind of promotion. I will offer different bundles for promotion here, for example facebook €5,00 and for facebook and Instagram together €10,00. 3.1.4 Music blogs This is way of promoting your music isn’t used a lot anymore since there aren’t a lot of blogs anymore but it’s still very effective. I will write a blog with a lot of tips for beginning and experienced producers. Every time I get a submission for a promotion on the blog I will look for something that is very well done and write an article about that piece of music and say “check out this track, it’s done great in here”. This will cost at least €50,00 since it takes a lot of time. The advantage is that the people who will use will get a lot of listeners via this channel. 3.1.5 Podcasts, dj sets and playlists This is something that every artist dreams off, getting their music played by a big artist in their podcast, a live set or just to get a spot in their Spotify playlist. Well since I will own a music label this

There will be 2 services that I will offer. The first one is a promotional service, the second one is the complicated service of offering contracts to artists, I offer this for free.


18 is something that I can fix. If I have an artist who is doing very well out there I can pay them with a small part of the money I get for receiving the submission. They can play it in their live set or in their podcast. Adding something into your Spotify playlist doesn’t take any time but those people will get a lot of plays on their music. Newness Records

This will definitely be the most expensive of all my ways to promote music.

3.2 Music label This is for me the most exciting part since this can bring the highest turnover. It will work in an easy way. Artists can send their unreleased music to me for 2 reasons. 3.2.1 A one song contract This means that they can release their track on my music label. By doing this I own most of the musical rights. People will be able to buy the music at different music shops like I-Tunes, google play,‌ But if the artist isn’t known this will barely bring any money to the label. So most of the money will come from youtube, if they get a 1 track contract I can upload it on youtube and since I have the musical rights I can make money with this. But why should they want to release their track on a label? Well of course they will get a percentage of the profit I make on it and I will promote the track for free. And maybe one of the most important reasons, if I like all their songs and they already received some one song contracts the chance to receive an artist contract is bigger. 3.2.2 An artist contract This is what most of the artists dream of. A contract which guarantees that all their tracks will be released on the label. They will receive all the same things like with the one song contract but there is a very big plus point. I already mentioned that people will have the chance to promote their music on dj-sets from my artists. I will try to fix gigs for the artists with an artist contract on my label. I will be paid by the organizer of the party. The artists will get a decent percentage of that money.

4 The market

It’s a fast developing market since people want to hear a different genre every half year so the music needs to change too. If the music changes I need to find some new artists who make the genre that is hot at that moment.

5 Market analysis 5.1 What steps do you need to take? The first step is to choose a business enterprise, will it be as a natural person or as a legal entity. The second step is to open a bank account. The best is to split your private and company bank account. The third step is to establish the business. For this step you need to go to a notary so he can make the right certification. For step number four you need to go to zenito, xerio,… so you can get your business number, they will list you in “kruispuntbank van ondernemingen (KBO)” and they will give you the number. The fifth step is to activate the VAT-number. Step number six is to join a social insurance fund. Step number seven is to join a health insurance fund.

5.2 Which documents do you need? (licenses, formalities,…)      

A bank account. The basics of business management, and you need to be able to prove this. A business number. You need to join a social insurance fund. You need to join a health insurance fund, if you already have a health insurance then you have to inform them that you are a self-employed person. An active VAT-number.

5.3 How much will it cost to register your business? Because it’s about a business activity, Zenito or another equivalent company will register you as a commercial enterprise and give you a business function in the KBO. This will cost €87,00 for every establishment. To activate the VAT-number I need to pay another €55,00

My target market will be music artists who need someone to promote their music. More specifically, most of them will be bedroom producers or rappers. They will need my services because promoting is a hard thing and it takes a lot of time for artists. And since every artist wants to get famous they need a lot of promotion to get heard. And that is exactly my service, promoting their music and let it be heard.

You can see that the prices are very low, this is because my costs are very low… mainly time and work. I believe my rates are very competitive and will allow me to take market share very quickly. Promotion: I will mainly promote my promotional services on soundcloud itself, just by liking someone’s song or by following them for a short time you can easily get a large amount of followers. Having a large amount of followers will attract the attention of the artists and will definitely move them to go to the profile and the site. On the other side it will promote itself because artists are always looking for a way to promote themselves. I will also try to promote everything on Facebook. There are a lot of Facebook groups for bedroom producers and other kind of artists. I will post a message in those groups to promote the promotion services and the label, but of course I won’t do this too much so that people don’t see it as spam. The best exhibition and maybe the only good one will be dancefair, this is a local (Belgium and the Netherlands) based exhibition were labels get a chance on promoting themselves and were artists get the chance to let them hear their songs to the music labels. This is very interesting because most of the artists are from Belgium and the Netherlands so promoting them for a gig is much easier. This is a free exhibition but you need to be selected by them before you can promote the label over there. I will make a website for the music label but there will be an extra section on it for people who want a promotional service. By this way the people that go to the site for the label itself will see the promotional services and the other way around.

Location: I only need a laptop or computer for this business at the start. If the company is very successful an office will be needed. But for the start only a laptop will do since this can

be used everywhere. Most of the time I will be working at home at my desk. The advantages about this is that it doesn’t require a high investment and that I can easily operate when I’m not at home for a few days. There are also some disadvantages like when I have a meeting it is a bit uncomfortable and very unprofessional to do this in a bedroom.

We can give something more to our prospects than the competition because our price/ quality rate will be much better. Because most of the promotion services ask for example €10,00 or €15,00 for a soundcloud repost for 10 000 followers and I will only ask €5,00. Another extra detail that can’t be forgotten is that we offer some new ways of promoting.

I don’t need any special equipment for my company expect from a laptop or computer and internet access. At the start of the business I will start with no employees but of course I’m dreaming of a company with a lot of employees. 9.2 Fixed costs I want to make a website so this will be a cost that doesn’t change, this will cost me €12,41/month. My own gross salary is a fixed cost. I will give myself a gross salary of €2200,00. This will come to a net salary of €1454,82. The social security contribution will cost me €230,24 and the advance business tax will be €496,23. There will be a special employers contribution for the social insurance, this will be €18,71. To start up the business I need to pay €87,00 and €55,00. These costs are already mentioned in part 5.3 how much will it cost to register your business?

Of course we have costs like every company and there are also the taxes. At every sale we make in the promotion area we need to calculate the VAT-percentage of 21%. Every quarter I need to pay social security contribution, with a minimum of €721,89 for every quarter, at the end of the year they look at your total earnings and they take a percentage of that number, with my total yearly earnings that will be a percentage of 20,5%. The total amount will be €14025,00. I will also have some electricity, internet and phone costs. But these costs will be very low because I can also reduce these costs by going to places with free internet and since I don’t need to foresee a whole office with electricity this won’t cost me to much.

I think that it is realistic that a prospect will pay € 35,00 for our services but of course I hope this will be a little bit more. I think I will be able to sell my service 4 times per day. Then I come to a total of €140,00 per day, which seems a decent number to me. The income from artist contracts comes from the parties where they will give a show, the YouTube videos and the sales. I think it’s hard to pin the right profit that I will get from this since this can be different every month and it depends from artist to artist. If I make the calculation then I come to the total yearly earnings of € 56 100,00 which isn’t that much but this should be enough since I don’t have any costs expect my own salary and taxes. The pessimistic doesn’t look good at all. I made the calculation by thinking that I will only sell 2 promotional packages a day which is pretty bad. The € 1000,00 that comes from the artist contracts will mainly be from their gigs and not from YouTube. Since this is a pessimistic view I guess that I won’t have a lot of YouTube views. If the business will work like in the pessimistic view then I will need to close the doors after the first month.

As you can see I would have a yearly profit of €15384,08. I think this is a beautiful profit for the first year. I would use this profit to expand the business and to organise an event where artists with an artist contract could give a show. This event will be promoted on social media to reach a big audience. This event isn’t focused on making big profits, the main idea is to promote the label and to reach some new prospects. If this evening/night would be breakeven then I can see it as a success.

Conclusie Ik kijk met een positieve blik terug op het afgelopen jaar. Het was een leerrijk jaar waarin we aan de hand van de geïntegreerde proef eens konden proeven van het bedrijfsleven. De gip heeft mij geleerd om te plannen maar ook om te werken onder stress en mij aan deadlines te houden. Er waren heel wat nuttige taken, zoals een CV en sollicitatiebrief maken. Dit zal ik zeker nog nodig hebben om te solliciteren voor een job. Ik vond het ook interessant om een promotiefilmpje te maken rond één product, deze taak leert je niet enkel iets meer over hoe je je producten moet promoten maar ook of je later bijvoorbeeld marketing wilt verder studeren of niet. In de minionderneming heb ik geleerd hoe je een goede factuur opstelt en hoe je samen werkt in team om tot een bepaald doel te komen. Ik hoop dat u mijn gipbundel vlot hebt kunnen doornemen en dat u er even tevreden over bent dan ikzelf.

Quick pitchs Hello everyone Since I was a little boy I was always attracted to music. Almost everything I did/ do is with some music on the background. So a few years later, around my 12 year I bought my first dj controller. So I played with that for, I think 1 year and I really enjoyed it but it wasn’t really the thing I wanted to do. So I switched to the music producing. And this is really what I wanted to do. So after 2 years of producing and being a part of a lot of worldwide music community’s I started realising that it is very hard for a so called bedroom producer to become famous. Some have the luck to sing a big label but most of them stay unsigned or sing to a label that doesn’t do a thing for their artists. And that’s how I started the plan to help good producers to give them a bigger audience. I promote their songs for free. I currently have a soundcloud repost channel with a small but active following. Which means that those followers actually listen to the songs and not just follow you for being promoted themselves. By knowing this story you will understand where my plans came from and how I will be able to work them out. The first step is to let my network grow as fast as possible. Till I reach a followers amount of 10000. At that moment I will ask a small donation for reposting their songs to my network. A lot of people do this since everyone wants to get famous. The second step is to add a music label in this whole idea, I will name it Newness Records. This will mean that music producers will send their demos to me and if I think that it’s something new I reach out to that person. Then the conditions for the contract need to be discussed. This will always be something like, the musical rights belong to us now, for every sale you will get a part and every gig that we can offer you, you will get a decent paying by us. We will earn money by the promotion services that we will keep offering. But most of the time we need to focus on promoting the artists that are a part of the label and try to fix a very big gig for them on a massive festival like Tomorowland, they will be payed a lot for those kind off gigs and since we get a cut of that money that’s very good for the company. Another nice and easy way of earning money with a music label is that I want to work together with the “bedroom producers” which means that they make the music fully themselves and that I don’t need to rent or make a big studio myself. Since music equipment is very expensive, that’s already a big cost that a lot of other labels have that we don’t have, the money we don’t need to spend on a professional studio can we use for other stuff like promoting or organising party’s with only artists on the label. Off course I’m aware that the start of the enterprise will be hard since the income needs to come from the reposts. But I think this is possible since there are already some people doing this. If I use my network, which is pretty big, I think I can promote it very well so it will get know fast.

I’m thinking about the pricing for the reposts and I think I will use different tariffs. Something like €10,00 for a normal repost and €15,00 for a repost + facebook,… promotion. As the network keeps growing I can add soundcloud accounts and also use them for the promotion. Then I can add more tariffs. I think I will have a lot of messages for reposts so if I can get daily something between 5 and 8 people that want to pay that would be good. It’s not a lot of money that comes in to the company but I don’t have any costs so that’s not a real problem.

What steps do you need to take? The first step is to choose an business enterprise, will it be as a natural person or as a legal entity. The second step is to open a bank account. The best is to split your private and company bank account. The third step is to establish the business. For this step you need to go to a notary so he can make the right certification. For step number four you need to go to zenito, xerio,… so you can get your business number, they will list you in “kruispuntbank van ondernemingen (KBO)” and they will give you the number. The fifth step is to activate the btw number. Step number six is to join a social insurance fund Step number seven is to join a health insurance fund. Which documents do you need? (licenses, formalities,…)      

How much will it cost to register your business? Because it’s about a business activity, Zenito or another tantamount company will register you as a commercial enterprise and give you a business function in the KBO. This will cost €85,50 for every establishment.

Ik heb gehoord dat er bij Up’Size een vacature openstaat voor administratief assistent. Ik zou deze functie graag uitvoeren. Mijn profiel stemt overeen met dat van een administratief medewerker. Zo ben ik organisatorisch en ben ik vertrouwd met de verschillende klasseringstechnieken. Ik zou dan ook graag uw administratief directeur ondersteunen met deze taak. Afgelopen kerstvakantie heb ik gewerkt als administratief assistent bij Van Der Vlist Belgium. Hier heb ik geleerd hoe ik het snelst verschillende documenten kan klasseren en bijwerken. Het bundelen en opbergen van de boekhouding van de afgelopen jaren behoorde ook tot mijn takenpakket. Ik moest er ook verkoopfacturen bijwerken, hiervoor moest ik excel gebruiken. Mijn goede kennis van het office pakket kwam hier goed van pas. Verder kreeg ik ook de taak om een veiligheidsfiche te maken, het kort samenvatten van de belangrijke informatie was dus zeer belangrijk. Mijn middelbare opleiding, Marketing en Ondernemen, heeft mij meer geleerd over de verschillende klasseringstechnieken. In de bijlage vindt u mijn curriculum vitae terug.
