The Glass case elevator was installed for the convenience of family and friends and links the ground floor with the entertainment rooms on the upper level. The outdoors was made complete by a landscaper who put automated irrigation in the garden as well as a new rock pool. The patio was completed with a built in braai and skylights were installed in the flat. All the bathrooms were newly renovated and the hand-painted kitchen was installed. The solid oak built-in cupboards, study and bar were PhilÕs choice. We further re-surfaced, re-painted and sealed the entire roof and finished the interior off with blinds and shutters.
The property brings the residents closer to nature and offers an extraordinary degree of flexibility in terms of lay-out and usage. The house gives a soothing and relaxing feeling, but in a bold and definite statement offers generous space and fine living at its best. ÒNorthcliff is one of those suburbs that attract you like a magnet and I think in our case it is true. The low maintenance benefit of the face brick and the elevation of the home on a small koppie appealed mostly to us. When Phil and Rina Crous were looking to move into a new home some 14 years ago, they had a good feel of what they wanted. They were looking for something not too far away from the City, but they did not want to compromise being close to nature. When they first walk into the property in Claire Crescent, they already like the position as there is no thoroughfare and thus no traffic or noise nearby. Once inside they loved the boundless views over the city of Johannesburg. ÒIt is just a beautiful settingÓ says Rina. The location and design of the property created a feeling of security and peacefulness. Century old Oregan Pine timber wooden ceilings and staircases create a warm relaxing atmosphere.
Rina will miss the new entrance with the sunroom and magnificent views of the surrounding landscape and city the most. PhilÕs concern is that they might not find a home with a main bedroom opening onto such a beautiful garden with large trees again. So what will Phil and Rina remember about their time at Claire Crescent? ÒThe garden with its tranquility, large trees and variety of bird life, the magnificent views and peaceful atmosphere of the neighbourhood are most probably the things we will miss the mostÓ. ÒIn the winter we will miss the cosiness of our fireplace that is complimented by the bar, wine cellar and kitchen/living area.Ó Overall the house gives one a soothing and relaxing feeling Ð a space where you feel save and secure Ð seclusion and serenity! The local amenities and facilities like schools, shops, point of interest, transport and improvement include good English and Afrikaans medium schools as well as the University of Johannesburg and the Witwatersrand that are a stone throw away. Cresta Shopping centre and other smaller centres are close by and offer good product and good restaurants. The Johannesburg Botanical Garden and Emmarentia dam provides space for relaxing walks. The Johannesburg Civic Theatre and Nelson Mandela Theatre are close to Northcliff and The Cresta Virgin Active Gym is another benefit for the body that is close by.
ÒThe self contained flat has been put to accommodation for their teenage son and the separate staff quarters and three garages with large storage area have been a huge plus living here. ÒWhen we bought the house 14 years ago, it did not come complete to our needs, however that did not put us off Ó. Several improvement later brought the home to exactly what we wanted says Phil. We installed automated entrance gates and wooden garage doors as well as pedestrian gates to improve security. We also installed an alarm system, electric fence, 4 cameras with 2 monitors. The entire property was surrounded with secure walling. Gleaming solid timber features, organic elements, style and quality abounds.

The Large trees providing plenty of shade during the hot summers and the patio is a haven where the tired sole can relax.The Rock pool blends in with the garden landscape and the low maintenance, water-wise garden flows through into the home.
