Big Family Digital Cameras by

Allied Vision Technologies: Leading in the world of digital cameras Founded 1989, Allied Vision Technologies has established itself as a worldwide leading manufacturer of digital cameras for machine vision applications. AVT was one of the first companies to give its full backing to digital interfaces, leading the way from analog to digital data transmission for image processing. Because AVT‘s engineers started using FireWire technology at such an early stage, they now possess an unbeatable store of expertise in that technology. As for the new Gigabit Ethernet interface GigE Vision, the worldwide first GigE camera available in the market was a Prosilica. AVT is still pioneering the development of this technology with innovations such as the Prosilica GX series, the first GigE-camera with 240 MB/s data rate.

Thanks to their versatility and wide range of the Smart Features, digital cameras from Allied Vision Technologies are used in a large variety of applications including industrial inspection, medical and scientific imaging, logistics, security and traffic or even multimedia and interactive entertainment.

FireWire and GigE

Today, AVT offers one of the largest camera portfolios with both leading digital interfaces: More than ten camera families provide a wide selection of possible imaging options with their various form factors, sensor sizes and image resolut ion levels. Monochrome, color, high resolution, or high speed: for every application there is the right AVT camera. Allied Vision Technologies is also recognized in the market as the expert for flexible camera customization for special requirements. Thanks to the AVT Modular Concept, a wide range of modifications such as angled heads, medical housings or alternative cable outlets are available “à la carte”. For even more specific applications, AVT offers tailor-made camera solution developments. Ease of use and performance in operation are enhanced by the rich set of functionalities included in AVT cameras. The AVT Smart Features optimize the captured images for processing even before they are transmitted to the host computer and improve the system efficiency with bandwidth allocation, deferred transfer mode and more. AVT Software Development Kits ensure an easy implementation with the most popular operating systems and third party libraries.

Gigabit Ethernet, also called GigE, is a serial network standard that has very high bandwidth and allows for very long cable lengths with Cat5e standard cables. It offers a low cost interface that is widely used in standard computer networking hardware. With the new GX camera, a sustained maximum data

rate of 240 MB/s is possible.

FireWire, or IEEE1394, provides high-speed, deterministic data transmission. AVT‘s FireWire cameras offer many more real-time functions (Smart Features) than specified in the IIDC standards - they can emulate traditional Frame Grabber functions. One of the main draw-backs of some other interfaces is that there is no standardized camera communication protocol. Both GigE Vision and FireWire provide a plug and play interface standard. AVT‘s GigE cameras are GigE Vision and Genicam compliant. AVT‘s FireWire cameras are compliant to the DCAM (or IIDC) standard and can easily be integrated into your application.
