The AUTOSAR notations: In order to understand the communication between various modules and sub modules in AUTOSAR, let us look at various standard graphical notations defined by AUTOSAR ( in relation to the application layer ): 1. All Component Types are represented by rectangles that contain the name of the component type. The SensorActuator component is represented using a measurement scale with a pointer:

2. The Ports are represented as rectangles on or next to the border of the rectangle symbolizing the component type. Inside the rectangle, lies a graphical label defining the port type ( RPort, PPort; Sender/Receiver, Client/Server) and the port name:

The data items of the interface are specified textually inside the rectangle. Meanwhile the allocation of an Port Interface to a Port Prototype is represented by dotted lines:
