One of the reasons that coconut oil is considered so healthy is because 50% lauric acid content which is a medium chain fatty acid. The only other food that naturally has luaric acid is mother's breast milk. Not only is this oil extremely nutritious and is high in fiber, vitamins, and minerals, it provides a host of nutritional benefits which makes it the perfect functional food. The high content of lauric acid helps the body to fight against viruses, infections, and a host of other ailments. There are limitless uses of coconut oil, I will provide a few common ways to incorporate this oil in your daily regimen. I use the oil for my skin as lotion. I don't have to buy expensive lotions and it is amazingly nourishing for your skin. Since it is an oil that solidifies under 75 degrees, here are some tips to use it as skin lotion. When you come out of your shower, keep some parts of your body slightly wet. It's easier to lather all over your body with a little wetness or water. I sometimes keep wetting my hands as I distribute it all over my body. It will solidify during the cooler months of the year so I keep a little jug and place my small glass bottle of coconut oil in warm water right before I shower so its in liquid state when I come out of the shower. I also use the oil on my children. In India and other parts of the world where coconuts are found in abundance, it is still a common practice to use coconut oil for hair. Again the lauric acid and Vitamin E nourishes the hair and is like food for the hair. The oil also helps the hair cuticles with its moisture retaining properties so it reduces breakage. It's anti-fungal qualities helps reduce or eliminate dandruff and other scalp rashes.

The way coconut oil is made and processed hugely determines the quality. A commercially processed oil is refined, bleached, and deodorized and does not offer the health benefits mentioned in this article. So start with "Virgin" and organic is always better so organic virgin coconut oil is the best. Also make sure you find a company that is totally committed to producing the best coconut oil. If you are on a budget, you can use a commercial coconut oil for hair and skin while selecting a higher quality oil for cooking and internal consumption. Do your research and know your facts about coconut oil and you will understand that incorporating it in your daily diet and regimen can provide you with amazing health benefits.
